In recent years, super yacht owners and designers have recognised the growing demand for wellness amenities, not merely a small room with a massage table. The result has been the integration of world-class spas that rival the finest establishments ashore. These onboard superyacht sanctuaries are equipped with cutting-edge facilities and staffed by experienced professionals to ensure an immersive and rejuvenating experience during your yacht charter vacation.  Let’s delve into the world of superyacht spas and take a look at those which push the boundaries of luxury.

Yacht Solandge – Sauna and Spa

AHPO | Lurssen | 115.10 m (377′ 7″) | 16 guests

Superyacht AHPO was delivered in late 2023 and is the pinnacle of the owner’s yacht ownership journey. She was designed for family use but has all the luxurious charter guests would look for and has another big focus on fitness and wellness.

In the spa, created by interior outfitter List, the theme of nature is ever-present, and every detail has been carefully considered from real leaves and stems, hand-painted wallpaper plus refined and relaxing lighting. The wellness space also includes a Turkish-style hammam with vibrant mosaics by Sicis and a fountain in ivory onyx and mosaics. The sauna even has Himalayan salt bricks inserted into its walls.

Beyond the spa there is a beach club, swimming pool, jacuzzi and private owner’s deck not to mention the 12-seater cinema, conference room and self-playing Steinway piano.

SCENIC ECLIPSE | Uljanik Shipyard | 168.00 m (551′ 2″) | 200 guests

Mega yacht SCENIC ECLIPSE is in a league of her own and as a boutique cruise ship, can accommodate up to 200 guests – she can be chartered privately. Her wellness centre is an indulgent, 550sqm facility with world-class amenities including multiple spa loungers, a mosaic sauna, spa therapists and indoor pools. There is also a fully equipped gym which includes a selection of exercise machines plus weights and other training apparatus.

Other spectacular features on board include a boutique, selling high-end fashion and accessories, an observation lounge and a choice of bars and restaurants. She operates seasonal cruises to the Antarctic and is staffed with experienced guides and has a helicopter and submarine on board.

CARINTHIA VII | Lurssen | 97.20 m (318′ 11″) | 12 guests

Following an extensive refit in 2023, every inch of superyacht CARINTHIA VII is in pristine condition including the lower deck wellness sanctuary. The welcoming spa has a cool, relaxing atmosphere and offers a hammam, and beauty salon – complete with a nail bar and hair dressing area – as well as a massage bed, creating a serene setting for guests to rejuvenate. Guests can add to their wellness experience with fresh juice from the juice bar which they can enjoy while sitting at the water’s edge on the fold-out balcony.

Guests can keep to their usual exercise route thanks to the on-board gym which is equipped with the latest machines and apparatus – plus the view from the glass-fronted studio is sensational. A sophisticated sunken jacuzzi, surrounded by elegant sun loungers, welcomes guests on the sun deck.

Both inside and out, guests will want for nothing and can find a quiet spot or gather for a special occasion anywhere across her five deck levels. Plus, there is an impressive collection of water toys.

ELEMENTS | Yachtley | 80.00 m (262′ 6″) | 12 guests

Take the elevator from the opulent main lobby on board superyacht ELEMENTS and descend to the lower deck spa and beach club. The beautiful hammam, massage and treatment room and sauna all share the extravagance of the décor seen across the yacht and feature mosaic and marble finishes, starlight ceilings and superior spa products. After a relaxing treatment guests can lie back on the elegant sun loungers positioned on the fold-out balcony, before trying their hand at the water sports on offer.

Forward on the owner’s deck, there is a swim spa and touch-and-go helipad so guests can arrive in style anywhere in the world. The twelve staterooms all have a unique look but share the same opulent fabrics and finishes.

CHRISTINA O

Last, but by no means least is the most classic of all classic yachts CHRISTINA O , the legendary yacht owned by the Onassis family which hosted the world’s most influential people during her glory years. The gym and spa feature the same refined décor seen across the yacht and offer a massage and treatment area with two beds, a nail bar and a selection of gym equipment including machines and free weights.

Spa and Beauty Services on cruiseships: some tips!

Looking for cruiseship reviews about the best in on-board spa and beauty pampering here’s cruising journal ‘s latest review of what’s currently available aboard some of the world’s top major, premium and luxury cruiseline ships., major cruise lines.

Aboard Princess Cruises ‘ two largest ships, Regal and Royal Princess , the Sanctuary spa is strictly adults only. This palace of relaxation takes up the whole top deck and offers superb facilities. Guests can chill out in the vast relaxation lounge and admire its stunning ocean views. Or enjoy spa treatments while relaxing in the rock garden among ornamental topiary.

The Lotus Spa is managed by Steiner Leisure. It offers an extensive menu of treatments, some men-only. Choose from a range of body massages, including poultice or hot stone massage. Body treatments include body scrubs, wraps and face and body anti-ageing treatments. The Lotus speciality is the Royal Experience treatment, a 75-minute luxurious body and facial massage.

The Enclave is an extensive thermal suite, where guests can rejuvenate in the hydrotherapy pool. Or relax on heated stone or waterbeds. There’s also a whirlpool bath and a Turkish-style steam room called the Hammam. Sweat it out in the herbal steam room, the Caldarium, or take a dry-heat sauna in the Laconium. The Retreat pool is open to all adults and secluded poolside cabanas are avaliable for hire. These can double as spa treatment venues (spa packages available for half-day or full-day hire).

Standard full-day spa passes cost around $40 per person. Sanctuary packages ranging from around $60-70 per person are available on some Princess scenic cruises, depending on the itinerary, so check before you book.

P&O Cruises pamper their guests with a comprehensive range of on board beauty and spa services. Aboard Azura , Britannia and Ventura , guests can choose from an extensive menu of indulgent spa treatments when soaking up the relaxing atmosphere of the Oasis Spa and Health Club.

Featuring a Scrub Bar and thermal suite, the Oasis boasts a range of hot stone therapies. Full body treatments include wraps, bracing scrubs and Ionothermie. A choice of facials, anti-ageing and hand and foot treatments are also available.

Spa treatments can vary according to ship, so check before you book. P&O have made things easier with a Cruise Personaliser that allows guests to choose and book treatments before sailing (via your agent or call direct on 0345 355 111), but booking on board is fine, too.

Also aboard are fully equipped beauty and hair salons. Both offer all the expected services, ranging from brow tinting to nail art. The salon’s signature hair glossifying conditioning treatment makes the perfect start for a new cut or colour.

There are some great packages and discounts on offer. The Couple’s Pampering package for 2 is ideal for honeymooners. Best value is the Spa Sampler at £200. This entitles guests to 2 luxury treatments, a scrub bar treatment and complimentary fitness class. You also get a full day pass for the Retreat and Thermal suite. Other passes range from £275 to £800.

Another line offering great on board beauty and spa services is smaller outfit, Pullmantur . Guests aboard Pullmantur’s Horizon , Monarch , Sovereign and Zenith can enjoy luxurious spa and beauty treatments in beautifully restful surroundings. Monarch and Sovereign have the Spa del Mar , while Horizon and Zenith also have similar spas and salons.

The host of available treatments include Swedish, Thai and hot stone massage. There’s also a delicious-sounding chocolate therapy, as well as collagen and oxygen facials. Manis and pedis are on offer, too. Guests can sweat it out in the on-board sauna, or relax in one of the jacuzzis. The onboard spa shop stocks a range of goodies for beauty-conscious guests to take home.

The onboard salon provides the full range of services and beauty treatments, including full nail services.

Spa treatments are not included in cruise packages and are chargeable, although passes and deals may be available within the spa.

Premium Cruise Lines

Celebrity Cruises offers its guests world-class beauty and spa opportunities. Services are provided by go-to specialists Canyon Ranch Spas − ‘the most comprehensive spa at sea’. Guests can expect a top-notch pampering experience. The Persian Garden is an on board oasis where guests can relax before and after treatments. Treatments include anti-ageing and vitamin facials, like the Ageless Oxygen Boost. There are several indulgent massage and bodywork options on offer. For example, guests can try the relaxing Aromatherapy Muscle Soother or the rejuvenating Awakening. Many tried and tested Canyon Ranch treatments, such as heat wraps and non-surgical face and body treatments, are available. The signature is the multi-sensory Detoxifying Ritual, which is based upon Hammam’s Bathhouse Rituals range.

In addition, the on board beauty and hair salons cater for guests’ beauty and hair needs, from brow tinting and teeth whitening, to a new haircut.

Beauty and spa treatments are not included in cruising packages. However, the salon and spa have their own great-value packages, including treatment discounts on port days.

Canyon Ranch is also managing Cunard ’s revamped beauty and spa facilities on board its fleet. Here it’s restyled as Mareel Wellness and Beauty (Mareel being Old Norse for ‘phosphorescence of the sea’). Canyon Ranch has developed a completely new range of treatments for Cunard. These take inspiration from the mineral-rich sea itself, although treatments may vary according to ship. For example, a couple’s seaweed bathing suite is already available on the recently refurbished Queen Elizabeth . Queen Victoria has also been upgraded. Queen Mary’s refit will be completed by November 2020.

Guests can be sure that Mareel Wellness and Beauty will reflect the Canyon Ranch Spa approach to all round wellness. It features stress-busting treatments, including Ayurvedic and organic body wraps. There’s a menu of massages, full body and facial treatments. The signature here is the Seaweed Leaf Wrap, which promises to detoxify, soften and firm skin.

In addition, all Cunard cruiseships now feature an Aquatherapy centre, where guests can relax and benefit from the ocean’s transformative power. Acupuncture, reflexology and shiatsu are also available.

The on board beauty salon provides every service you would expect in a top-flight salon. Guests can even get makeup lessons. In addition, the fully equipped hair salon offers a full range of cutting, colouring and styling services. Men can enjoy a luxurious shave or trim.

Treatment costs are chargeable, but credits can be purchased. Treatments may be subject to change, so it’s best to enquire at the spa once on board or call Canyon Ranch Spa direct on +1 877 329 1924.

Luxury cruise lines

Guests aboard Regent ’s Seven Seas Cruises ship, Regent Seven Seas Explorer, and sister ships benefit from Canyon Ranch Spa ‘s on board services. The luxurious spa is situated in airy Regent suite and is dedicated to beauty and wellness.

The atmosphere is suprememly relaxing. Canyon Ranch has developed a range of delicious-sounding signature treatments and therapies for Regent Seven Seas. Both inspired by and incorporating local flora, ingredients include invigorating evergreen oils and Arctic berry.

The facilities and treatments have the same high standards and great products as those found aboard Cunard and Celebrity Cruises’ ships. Many of the ocean-inspired treatments are based in the Aquatherapy centre. Guests can benefit from the healing and rejuvenating effects of water. They can also enjoy the experiential showers, which can change from a light, refreshing rain to a monsoon-style downpour on command.

Silversea offer comprehensive on board beauty, spa and relaxation opportunities across all their ships. The Zagara Beauty Spa boasts luxury facilities. Enjoy the sauna and steam rooms in superb surroundings. There’s a huge choice of treatments and an impressive array of massage options. Hydrating facials, non-surgical fat-reduction treatments and seaweed body wraps are just a few of the available treatments.

Botox, Dysport, and Restylane treatments administered by a licenced physician are available only on Silver Muse and Silver Spirit , so check what’s available on your ship on the dates you want to travel before booking. You can book ahead or in the spa.

The beauty salon offers guests top-to-toe pampering, including manicures and pedicures. There’s also a full-service unisex hair salon.

If you’re a trained and experienced beautician with a fantastic reputation on land, a career change to a superyacht beauty stew might just be the perfect alternative.

How amazing would it be to continue doing something you love and that you’re good at while potentially travelling the world, making friends for life and earning a salary and tips that could quite literally change your life (if you’re sensible ha ha)!?

As the size of superyachts get bigger, so is the size of the crew and owners are often looking to find skilled professionals to add yet another layer of glamour and luxury to the onboard services.

Health and wellness are a priority, trips are getting longer and the yachts are traveling further afield, so having a beautician at the ready to top-up those treatments is essential and a real bonus for guests looking to charter.

A lot of the 90m+ superyachts even have an onboard spa with treatment rooms, steam and sauna rooms, cold pools and an unlimited product budget!

And right now, beauticians of all kinds are in high demand! Whether you’re a nail technician, masseuse, make-up artist, hair stylist or all-round beauty treatment boss, you could be in with a real chance of becoming a superyacht beauty stew. Your salary could start at around 2,800 Euros per month and go all the way up to 5,000 Euros with holiday leave being anything from 60 days to six months!

Not all beauty experience will be considered

For anyone looking to get their first superyacht role, it’s a hugely competitive market and can take months or even years to get your first big break. But if you have a secondary skill like beauty, it can be a huge bonus.

A lot of ‘green’ stews have hospitality experience but that’s not going to make you stand out these days. Nor is being newly qualified. You need to have some kind of longevity in your land-based career and at least a real interest in luxury brands even if you aren’t in a position to be able to use them right now.

Diaries full of standard Shellac, bikini wax and the odd full body massage booking is probably not going to cut it either. Focus more on facials, skin treatments and full beauty experiences if your plan is to be a superyacht beauty stew at some point.

The more experience you have, the more likely you are to get a more beauty focused role onboard and maybe even be in with a chance of joining a yacht with a fully equipped spa.

Superyacht beauty stew responsibilities include:

• Being on standby for any beauty treatments the guests want throughout the trip
• Managing and maintaining all beauty products onboard
• Cleaning the spa and/or treatment areas to make sure they are guest-ready at all times

You will be expected to do a wide variety of beauty treatments onboard, but massage and facials would be the most popular. Nails, waxing, and eyelash treatments are less common, but it totally depends on the owner and guests and length of trips.

There may be opportunities for you to broaden your beauty horizons too – if there is a product/ treatment that the boss is specifically into and you are not trained or experienced in it, then more often than not, the owner will happily send you on a course! All expenses paid.

Your other duties

The reality with any superyacht role with a secondary skill is that you will still be expected to perform standard crew duties 80% of the time.

As a beauty stew, you’ll most likely join the housekeeping, laundry or service interior team, responsible for chambermaid or waitress type duties – at the highest standards expected in 7-star hotels and Michelin star restaurants.

One day you could be doing back-to-back treatments and on the next trip, back-to-back linen washes and bed changes, so you need to have realistic expectations.

In return for your specialist skills, superyacht beauty stews can expect to earn a very attractive monthly salary from the outset, with tip potential on charter yachts.

And although you’ll probably be doing much less beauty than you are now, your fellow stews will no doubt be on-hand to help you maintain your level of skill and experience!

But if you are at the top of your game, you could be the perfect candidate to run an onboard spa, which would mean more beauty time, less stew time, and more money!

Are you suited to superyacht life?

Of course there are many pros to travelling the world on a luxurious floating hotel while doing a job you trained for, but being a superyacht beauty stew also requires some other soft skills and personality traits.

You’ll be working long hours, often doing basic jobs that are not beauty related at all, and you’ll be living away from home with complete strangers (at first, anyway).

It’s a high-pressure environment too with a big focus on exceptional service and absolute perfection (sometimes demanded by unreasonable and rude guests) so you’ll need a great work ethic alongside thick (and beautiful) skin!

Ready to take on a new challenge? First, invest in your STCW and ENG1. It will cost around £1,000 to become fully qualified in the UK but you’ll get that back in your first wage packet! Then register with us and we will be in touch to discuss potential roles.

Marking something of a full circle moment, the Greenline team got the idea for the new brand at the MYS in 2018. The story goes that Prince Albert II of Monaco fell in love with the yard’s electric 33-footer and even requested an escort to the Monaco Yacht Club in the yacht. That high praise pushed the Greenline team to scale their green tech for the superyacht sector.

Each GX cruiser will feature a cutting-edge hybrid propulsion system, a highly efficient hull, and a large solar array. The hybrids will be able to seamlessly switch between diesel and electric power, allowing seafarers to cruise leisurely sans emissions or tear it up at speed. “At six knots in electric mode, these yachts can achieve an incredible range of up to 100 nautical miles,” Greenline CCO Luca Raumland said in a statement. “In diesel mode, they can cross the Atlantic at 12 knots, while the max range is 11,571 nautical miles at six knots”

The GX superyachts will produce 40 percent fewer carbon emissions than conventional diesel-powered vessels, according to Greenline. Each yacht will also be fitted with solar panels and a large lithium battery bank that together will offer enough green energy to power the hotel load silently and cleanly for 48 hours or more, the yard says.

GX has already reeled in a customer, too. The yard is in the process of constructing a 138-footer for an existing Greenline client. (As the GX models are too big for Greenline’s Slovenian yard, the fleet will be built in partnership with SES Yachts of Tuzla, Turkey.) The stylish new GX42 RPH will showcase leatherwork by Foglizzo, natural wood flooring by Cadorin, and furniture by Poltrona Frau and Rugiano. With 50 percent of the hull already complete, the yacht is expected to hit the seas in summer 2026.

Vessels like Mike Lynch's stricken superyacht are "unsinkable", according to the chief executive of the firm which makes and sells them.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, told Sky News there are no flaws with the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht which capsized in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday.

Five bodies were found by divers on Wednesday - taking the number of confirmed dead to six.

The Italian Sea Group also owns the firm that built British tech tycoon Mr Lynch's Bayesian, and Mr Costantino said the vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense".

"Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said.

"And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever."

He said their structure and keel made them "unsinkable bodies".

Mr Costantino said news of the sinking "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other".

"This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," he said.

It is understood Italian prosecutors investigating the incident are continuing to hold interviews with the survivors.

On Tuesday they questioned the captain for more than two hours to help reconstruct what happened and provide useful technical details.

Four British inspectors are also in Porticello and have begun a preliminary assessment of events.

It is understood they will look at all relevant aspects of the incident, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel. They will also examine the effects of the weather conditions experienced.

Twenty-two people were on board the vessel, 15 of whom were rescued - including Briton Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter Sofia.

Divers will resume efforts on Thursday morning to bring ashore a body they found earlier. One more person remains missing.
