Here's how I imagine the making of "Poland" went:

LIL YACHTY: "You recording?" ENGINEER: "Yep." LIL YACHTY: "I TOOK THE WOOOOOOOOCK TO POLAND!" F1LTHY: "What the hell was that??" ENGINEER: "Do you wanna try that again?" LIL YACHTY: "Nah trust me ... OK, now make me sound like I'm a robot singing into a fan." RANDOM GUY IN STUDIO: "I'm leaking this."

Whether it's Michigan rap or sample drill, Yachty is constantly looking for new sounds to fold into his world. But the cyber-vibrato on "Poland" reminds me of the goofier Sailing Team days when he was emerging in the wake of Makonnen, KEY and other Atlanta rap mavericks — a singer that couldn't really sing but had enough charisma and auto-tune to pull it off. The song hinges on its insane hook. The verse is kind of forgettable. But that's all it has taken for fans to eat this thing up. Yachty is probably channeling Duwap Kaine, too, a 20-year-old from Savannah, Ga. who's quietly influenced a generation of internet rap crooners by pushing auto-tune to its limits . Kaine seemed to get the message; he's already released a remix .

Yachty first released “Poland” on Soundcloud last week after snippets of the song were leaked online. The 83-second track quickly gained traction with its woozy, 8-bit beat (produced by F1lthy, Lukrative, and Lucian) and its instantly memorable (and meme-able) hook, which Yachty delivers with a distinct wobble in his voice, “I took the Wock to Poland.” (“Wock” is shorthand for Wockhardt, the pharmaceutical company that makes promethazine and codeine cough syrup.)

Lil Yachty Releases Video for Viral New Song “Poland”: Watch

Last week, apparently in response to leaks, Lil Yachty posted a F1lthy -produced song called “ Poland ” on SoundCloud. It quickly went viral , with rappers like Denzel Curry , Wiz Khalifa , and DDG among the many to react to the track and its hook, “I took the Wock to Poland.” Yachty has now officially released “Poland” across digital streaming platforms. It’s co-produced by F1lthy, Lucian, and Lukrative, and comes with a music video directed by Cole Bennett. Check it out below.

In 2021, Lil Yachty released Michigan Boy Boat and Birthday Mix 6 , as well as the single “ Yae Energy .”

Last week (Oct. 6), Lil Yachty issued the short and simple “Poland” on SoundCloud, and the unique track automatically became a meme . Now the 25-year-old rapper is accompanying the song with a Cole Bennet-directed music video.

In the visual, Yachty finds himself jumping the turnstile at a New York subway station on a trippy trek through the train system. The viral record was produced by F1LTHY and dropped on Soundcloud after it leaked.

The sticky chorus, “I took the wooooooock to Poland,” references Wockhardt promethazine-codeine syrup.

According to HipHopDX , after the song was issued, Quality Control CEO Pierre “Pee” Thomas shared the screenshot of an alleged iMessage conversation with Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki inviting the Atlanta native to the European country.

Polish officials have not publicly confirmed nor denied the conversation.

While the “Oprah’s Bank Account” rapper has remained relatively quiet on the music front , he revealed to Complex last month that he has new music finished, but the release date is still blurry.

“My album is done. It’s mastered and done. When you’ll get it, I don’t fu**ing know. My date has been pushed back like five times. The disappointing thing is that it probably won’t be on this side of the year unfortunately.”

Lil Yachty’s viral “Poland” arrives on streaming platforms

The wooooooooock has hit dsps..

Last week Lil Yachty released a new track titled “Poland” on SoundCloud and it promptly blew up . The song, with its addictive "I took the woooooock to Poland" hook, has amassed over 5 million plays in seven days. Now it has been made available across all streaming services. Check it out below.

Yachty appeared to suggest that the initial release of "Poland" was in response to it leaking online. "STOP LEAKING MY SHIT .... PROD.F1LTHY" he wrote in the caption on the song's SoundCloud page. He also hinted that his next album will be arriving in 2023. Yachty’s last project, Michigan Boy Boat , dropped this time last year.

Yesterday (Oct. 5), Lil Yachty treated fans with his brand new “Poland” track. The SoundCloud exclusive marked his first solo offering of the year. Since its release, Drake hinted that “Poland” could be the start of a project rollout, as he reposted it on his Instagram story with a caption that read “Boat Opera on tour 2023.” On the song, Yachty delivers his signature flow over some production courtesy of F1LTHY:

Months later, he dropped off the sixth installment of his Birthday Mix series, bringing in his 24th trip around the sun with SoFaygo, Lil Tecca, DC2Trill, and Draft Day. Since then, he has released a few loose singles like “Tunde” and “Yae Energy.”

Outside of his own releases, the Atlanta rapper delivered some strong assists on several recent tracks, including “Humble” by Diplo, “Wocky My Lover” by Mak Sauce, “Rocc Climbing” by Remble, “Rule #1” by DDG, and “Bank Teller” by Lil Tecca.

How Lil Yachty got whole world wailing with Poland

10 Songs that defined 2022: The rapper’s ode to cough syrup started as a joke. It ended up being his biggest hit.

If you wanted a snapshot of how hits are minted in 2022, you could do worse than listen to Lil Yachty’s Poland . Little more than a sketch, a sound effect, a meme – and strikingly brief at a shade over 80 seconds – it’s also one of the year’s biggest songs, clocking just shy of 100 million streams in the two months since its release.

Recorded as a joke, then leaked, then uploaded by Yachty to Soundcloud (caption: ​ “ STOP LEAKING MY SHIT”) in October, it was soon followed by a  video shot by Cole Bennett of coveted rap platform Lyrical Lemonade.

Not long after that, it was everywhere.

The Bee Gees may have started a joke that had the whole world crying , but Lil Yachty started one that had the whole world wailing. Wailing, specifically, about taking a bottle of intoxicating cough syrup to Eastern Europe. ​ “ It’s funny that people like this song,” a somewhat bemused Yachty told YouTuber Zik ​ “ ZIAS” Asiegbu. The song isn’t finished, but that doesn’t matter: it’s been remade and reimagined thousands of times over on TikTok already.

Its appeal lies somewhere in the uncanny valley of the chorus – those chilly, cyber, vibrato, shape-shifting synth lines – and the epic but scuzzy beat courtesy of F1lthy, a producer who’s also crafted synth-heavy songs by rage rap stars Playboi Carti and Yeat. It helps that it’s mostly hook, too. The solitary verse – more breather than stanza, rapped with a comedown shiver – is haunted by the ghostly, nonsensical refrain.

It’s also strikingly of its time in the sense that its enormous success (eclipsing pretty much everything Yachty’s done since he broke big with his whimsical brand of mumble rap in 2017) was both totally unpredictable and unplanned: a spark of inane inspiration catching a TikTok tailwind and pulling everyone from Steve Lacy to Cardi B into its orbit.

This is what it sounds like when the line between meme and song dissolves. Meaning and time evaporate, and all that’s left is irony. Despite being hailed ( let’s say ironically ) by Poles as a defining moment in the nation’s history, and garnering comment from a spokesperson for the Polish embassy in Washington, D.C. ( if not an actual invite to visit from the Prime Minister), Yachty was actually singing about a bottle of spring water from Maine, New England when he came up with the hook. But the whole world sang along with him anyway.
