Description fournie par le constructeur Light, lively and comfortable, the Kennex 380 knows how to combine performance with safety. The Kennex 380 offers a choice of keels or daggerboards. Kennex’ are the ultimate in technology dedicated to comfort and safety. Like all Aquitaine Multicoques catamarans, the Kennex are built using the vacuum-bagged process and composite sandwich technique, derived from competition sailing and aircraft construction techniques. In addition to its major contribution to unsinkability, this process provides a greater rigidity and enables an important weight saving. It also makes for a very high level of homogeneity between the multidirectional fibres and the waterproof PVC foam. Another feature of the Kennex is the use of carbon-fibre technology. Judiciously placed in the most highly stressed areas, an internal skeleton of graphite fibres forms a structural core, notably increasing the structural stiffness of the hulls and allowing weight saving. A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. Boat: Kennex 38 catamaran	. I sailed thru a storm and had only 3 wave slams, a tremendous improvement over my former Prout 37. I . The design wasn't planned for that, e.g. a enclosure will be difficult, the driven fridge had to go, and access to the table is difficult. Contact me if you have questions. -- Tom

I do know that after owning a I now recognize that they are great for shallow cruising and living at but the motion on long passages can be irritating. Boat: Kennex 38 catamaran	, which can be jerky at times. But I have sailed across the Atlantic in a 41 which in light would roll 30 degrees to each side every 4 seconds for 10 hours at a stretch - enough to make you scream! The had to be taken down because of the explosive slam on each roll.

Boat: Kennex 380, 38 ft catamaran 1989	to in 2006 through 2008. It now lies in NZ in the water with a recent to the Bay of Islands. Never had an owners manual though. However to suit it for and I ended up replacing all and , most , adding stiffening stringers under the bridgedeck and stiffening the forward and aft main bulkheads. I added forward horizontal chainplates to take loads -- she lay very well to a in a January Atlantic gale shortly after departure. The engines, 2002 18HP diesels, have proved quite reliable, and the sail drive legs have given no problems. However, on noting from that the sail drive legs must be isolated electrically (and the model 2002 Volvo engines do not isolate the legs), I added grounding solenoids to the start circuits so that the engines are grounded only during startup. Otherwise one risks drive leg . Alternators must have isolated grounds, and pressure senders must be two-contact. My legs have no , thank goodness, but I've seen plenty that are pretty bad, probably due to being connected to boat ground all the time. If gone through, the Kennex 380 makes a nice cruiser. The honeycomb-cored decks are super solid, and the Airex-cored hulls are not vulnerable to water intrusion. The hull-to-deck transition underneath is very well done and minimizes stress concentrations. My boat has Ocean Series hatches which are very good. There are bulkheads fore and aft. The is super strong. I did have the hulls peeled and relaminated with vinylester and barrier coat in though. The layout is 3 double staterooms plus two large forward spaces accessible via hatches. and nav are on the bridgedeck along with a large settee. This makes for a nice living arrangement with all daytime activity up on the bridgedeck and sleeping/washing/pantry below. The engines are well sound-suppressed. This is a lot nicer than the earlier Prout I had. I don't think though that the 380 has quite the payload of some other cats, so watching overall load is worthwhile.
