Croatia's second city Split has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014 and has a range of old buildings and alleys that will treat the eye. Wandering the narrow streets of the Old Town you shouldn't miss Diocletian's Palace, from where much of the Roman Empire was ruled back in the day. While perhaps tasting the excellent food and wine as you wander, another spot should be the Riva port area, where you can enjoy the sunset after dinner.

If you're feeling energetic, a plod up Marjan hill to see the astounding views of the coast and nearby beautiful islands is a must. Back down at sea level you can relax on one of Split's beautiful beaches such as Bacvice, just a short walk along the waterfront from the port.

Out of the ACI Marina Split, you can begin your crewed catamaran charter or bareboat charter, and go on to explore the Croatian coastline and islands at your leisure. Where would you like to go on your boat rental? Whether Dubrovnik, Hvar or the Kornati Islands, the choice is yours on your Split catamaran charter with Borrow a Boat!

Crewed Catamaran Charters from Split

You don't need to worry about qualifications or even sailing the boat in Croatia with Borrow a Boat! A Split crewed catamaran charter on a motor catamaran or sailing catamaran can mean you do as much or as little physically sailing the yacht as you like.

A skippered yacht charter will mean that the skipper will be aboard with their own cabin to attend to all your needs. A crewed yacht charter will involve one or two crew on the gulet who will cook, sail and make suggestions as to your best destinations on your sailing itinerary.

As to you? You can just enjoy the breezes and views, or if you fancy learning a bit about sailing, help the skipper or crew to get the boat from A-B.

A Split crewed yacht charter will cost a little more (typically €150 a day for a skipper and €100 per crew member) and it's the done thing to thank them with a tip at the end of the week.

Bareboat Catamaran Charter From Split

A bareboat catamaran charter will mean that you can take the yacht out on your own. Generally for vessels up to 20 metres LOA on a sailing license such as an RYA Day Skipper or ASA 104 Bareboat certificate, you will have total responsibility for the yacht.

You will need to think about your itinerary, victualling, possible secondary ports should a marina be full, as well as issues like weather and mooring fees.

On a bareboat charter you will be asked to pay for insurance in the form of a security deposit on departure or through buying charter insurance before you go on your sailing holiday.

Types of Catamarans Available For Rent Or Charter In Split:

When searching a geographical area on Borrow A Boat you can filter by the below charter yacht types. There is also the option to further filter your searches by price, the number of guests, cabins or bathrooms, what year the catamaran was launched, the boat length and the boat manufacturer.

Types of Catamarans Available:

Sailing Catamarans: Luxury catamarans are stable and spacious, with quick sailing performance, and and have been gaining in popularity in recent years. Better for larger groups, they have lots of room for water toys, and are big enough for a little privacy. A catamaran charter is easy and comfortable for novices not used to heeling and are loved by families due to their extra space when compared to a monohull sailing yacht. Typically far more luxurious than a sailboat the larger catamarans have en suite toilets and showers in the cabin as well as ample entertaining space in the saloon and on deck.

Power Catamarans: These motor yacht catamarans are relatively new but have also been gaining in popularity as the two hulls keep the boat more stable when compared to a monohull. The wider beam also means more deck space and as they don't have sails or a mast, they have a lot more space on deck than a sailing catamaran rental or monohull. For a luxury catamaran charter, consider taking a crewed catamaran charter sailing vacation with an experienced skipper.

Catamaran Sailing Areas Itineraries From Split

On your crewed catamaran charter or bareboat charter you can explore the Dalmatian coast or beautiful islands to your heart's content. Here we suggest a 7 day sailing holiday and a 14 day holiday on your charter boat:

7 Days - Dalmatian Coast and Islands: As a first leg on your sailing yacht or motor boat you will head out to the party island of Hvar. Northeast to the Croatian coast, this time to the town of Rognozica. After another sail, the third night will be on the beautiful islands of the Kornatic archipelago with its unique wildlife and geology and world renowned national park. The 5th night will be in Biograd, before returning SE to Trogir, just across the bay from Split.

14 Days - Dubrovnik and the Croatian Coast: Perhaps on a gulet charter or bareboat, here is an opportunity to head SE to the stunning old city of Dubrovnik. Hvar will be your first port of call, before island hopping via Korcula and Mljet to Dubrovnik, perhaps pausing for an evening or two on uninhabited islands as you go. Return along the Croatian coast, stopping at Slano, Loviste and Sucuraj on the opposite end of Hvar island to the party town you spent the first night, and then head for Makarska, Rogac and then for a final night, Trogir for the evening before handover.

Do You Need A Licence To Charter A Catamaran In Split

If you are on a skippered catamaran charter you do not need a license to sail out of Split, you can just turn up at the marina and go.

You do need a license if you are on a bareboat catamaran charter and in some countries such as Croatia a day skipper or ICC may not be enough for boats over 45 feet in length, you will need to check with the charter agent but here are some examples of typical sailing qualifications that will allow you to charter in most countries:

International Certificate of Competence: This is issued on request by your European sailing authority and you should automatically qualify with certain national sailing qualifications.

RYA Qualifications: If you have the following qualifications you will typically be able to take a bareboat charter out of Split (but it is worth checking as per above), these include Day Skipper (sail or motor endorsement), Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster.

American Sailing Association (ASA): The ASA 104 Bareboat certificate is commonly accepted but also check as per above

US Sailing : The International Proficiency Certificate is widely accepted and The Bareboat Cruising Certificate is also accepted in many cases.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should i consider when hiring a catamaran.

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

Do you have to pay a deposit when hiring a Catamaran in Split?

You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the catamaran hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.

Frequently asked questions

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company and they can typically send someone from the charter base

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the catamaran before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool in the evenings.

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. If you choose to have a skipper on board your catamaran you won't require licences.

Split is the second-largest city in Croatia and the capital of Dalmatia. It is a popular stopover or starting point for tourists embarking on a Split catamaran charter to explore the enchanting nearby islands. Along the coast of Split, there are numerous splendid spots to visit, including several stunning beaches, such as the central beach of Bačvice. From Split, one can easily venture to the picturesque islands of Brač and Hvar. These islands boast exquisite small coves and beaches, such as Zlatni Rat, where one can pause and savour the surroundings. For those seeking to cruise further south, Korčula is a must-see destination. Besides being the birthplace of Marco Polo, this island offers an ideal setting for active holiday enthusiasts, with activities like scuba diving, sailing, surfing, jet skiing, and swimming.

Now, why opt for a catamaran? Due to their dual-hulled design, catamarans offer superior stability and steadiness compared to motor or sailboats. They provide the perfect opportunity to unwind and appreciate the breathtaking views. When you charter a catamaran with a skipper, you can fully immerse yourself in the experience without worrying about the boat. You can embrace the historical and captivating landscapes of the Croatian Island of Split. Furthermore, catamarans generally offer more space than motorboats or sailboats and can accommodate approximately 12 people. This makes them an excellent choice for families, groups of friends, or couples seeking a romantic getaway with ample space and privacy.

Charter a catamaran in Split via Click&Boat.

On Click&Boat, you can discover a wide selection of Split catamaran rentals. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or a beginner, there are options to suit every budget, with or without a skipper, depending on your sailing expertise and qualifications. You can marvel at renowned landmarks such as Diocletian's Palace, Saint Domnius Cathedral, and Jupiter's Temple. It's an excellent way to explore Croatia, one of this country's many treasures.

What to do on your catamaran rental in Split.

Catamarans offer a wonderful choice for a diverse range of people, simultaneously providing relaxation and adventure. You can drop anchor at a serene and secluded beach, basking in the year-round sun that graces Split, or plunge into the crystalline waters for a refreshing swim and indulge in thrilling water sports. When you charter a catamaran in Split with a skipper, they are more than just your driver—they often possess extensive local knowledge, serving as experts who can guide you to the finest locations. If you desire to snorkel and engage with the local marine life, your skipper will know the prime spots. If you want to rent a jet ski for an exhilarating hour, your skipper can direct you to the optimal locations. Even if catamarans are not traditionally used for fishing, you can message the owner of your catamaran rental to inquire about arranging fishing equipment on board, enabling you to try your hand at sea fishing.

Where can you sail from Split?

Just off Split lies Brac, the largest island in the Dalmatia region and the third largest in the Adriatic. Known for its agriculture and high-quality raw materials, Brac produces delicious olive oils and wines. However, the island's most renowned export is its pure white limestone, which has been used to construct famous buildings, including the White House in Washington, DC.

Brac is also home to the famous beach Zlatni Rat, a stunning 500-meter-long headland extending from the island. While the beach is exceptionally popular during the peak summer months, visiting during the low season is advisable to avoid crowds.

Continuing approximately 18 nautical miles further into open waters, you will reach the island of Vis. This gem in the Adriatic Sea remained untouched by tourists due to its strategic military base location. As a result, Vis is often seen as an alternative destination to the typical sailing route, making it perfect for travellers seeking natural beauty and a tranquil experience.

The island is also renowned for producing some of Croatia's most exclusive wines, such as Plavac and Vugava. Wine enthusiasts are highly recommended to indulge in wine tasting. The two main resorts on the island are Vis Stad and Komiza, situated on opposite sides. Vis Stad, on the east side, has managed to preserve its traditional Mediterranean atmosphere despite increasing tourism. The city boasts one of Croatia's oldest centres, evident in its historic forts and amphitheatres.

On the west coast, the charming coastal community of Komiza awaits, nestled between crystal-clear waters and the slopes of Mount Hum. As a fishing village since the 14th century, Komiza has maintained strong ties to its fishing heritage. For a taste of traditional seafood dishes, Konobas Barba and BAKO come highly recommended.

Heading east from Vis, you will eventually reach the island of Korcula. Korcula showcases a delightful blend of breathtaking natural landscapes, picturesque villages, and idyllic beaches. The island's largest town, Korcula, is on the west side. Recognised as one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the Mediterranean, Korcula boasts a rich history. It is the birthplace of the renowned explorer Marco Polo (1254-1324).

The old part of the city is famous for its medieval buildings and is often referred to as "Little Dubrovnik" due to its stunning architecture. A visit to Korcula is incomplete without savouring the local seafood and exploring one of the island's vineyards.

On the return journey, a stop at the island of Hvar is nearly mandatory. The distance between Korcula and Hvar spans 32 nautical miles, offering one of Croatia's most scenic sailing routes. We recommend heading to Marina Palmizana on a small island outside Hvar town as you approach Hvar. This marina is renowned for its beauty, and you can easily reach the main island and Hvar via a sea taxi that operates until 11 in the evening.

If you prefer more flexibility, you can also sail directly into the port of Hvar City. Hvar is predominantly known for wine, lavender, and nightlife. Explore vineyards and olive groves while enveloped by lavender and rosemary scents. For those seeking vibrant nightlife, Hvar offers a fantastic selection. It is less crowded than famous party destinations like Ibiza and Ayia Napa. However, it still attracts people worldwide and hosts spectacular clubs, including Carpe Diem & Hula Hula, two highly acclaimed venues.

How much does it cost to rent a catamaran in Split?

The price of your catamaran rental will vary depending on several factors. These include the size of the catamaran, the time of year, the length of your rental, and the year the catamaran was built. Prices typically range from €300 to €3000 per day. Renting a catamaran during the high season will have a higher price tag, but you'll enjoy the best weather of the year. On the other hand, opting for a charter during the mid or low season means cooler weather, but you'll benefit from lower prices, quieter streets, and fewer tourists.

It is common to rent a catamaran for a week or longer, and 70% of our Catamarans are only available for weekly charters. Weekly prices start around €1,390 in the low season and €4,650 in the high season for 10 people. On the higher end, catamarans can cost €16,300/week in the low season and €35,000/week in the high season for 10 people. However, don't let these prices discourage you! A catamaran with a weekly rate of €2300 could accommodate up to 10 people, making the cost per person only €230 per week. So gather your friends, plan a week off, and reserve a catamaran charter in Split!

Split is an ideal choice for visitors of all ages. You sure won’t be disappointed in this popular destination. Just a few of the several wonderful pastimes are sailing, sightseeing, bathing, hiking and partying. If you wish for a relaxed, old-school city tour, you couldn’t find a better spot. But if you prefer a refreshing, youthful adventure, still don’t miss this beautiful Mediterranean city. Visit its beaches, music festivals, and clubs.

Beaches in Split

Split has several incomparably attractive beaches, where the water is clean, and the shore meets all expectations. On the Splitsko Peninsula, nearly the whole seaside is suitable for swimming. Choose from a great variety of the popular sand, pebble, or wild rock beaches – especially on the shore of the Marjan mountain. We made a list of the most popular beaches from the east to the west. These places provide more than just the sun and the sea, something unique.

Trstenik beach

It’s a pebble beach with deck chairs and beach umbrellas. But if you’d rather lay down your beach shawl, you can easily find a place for that too. There’s a VIP platform operating with the hotel there. Other than that it’s fully open to the public. The beach is clean and has some bars around.

It’s a sandy beach full of deck chairs and beach umbrellas which are constantly in use. For the people who live in Split Bačvice is part of the city’s identity. An important part of the cultural heritage, a local beach game called Picigin was also born here. This game is an amateur sport usually played in shallow water. Players are hitting a small ball with their palms in the air so that it’s not touching the surface of the water. At the same time, Bačvice is one of the main night zones of the city. It’s the place of the Split Beach Festival.

This pebble beach is right next to the Ivan Meštrović Gallery on the south side of Marjan Hill. Most young people in their twenties visit this part of the coast. Families generally enjoy the beach a bit further away.

Main sights in Split

Besides the amazingly clear water of the beaches, there are several historical buildings, museums, and churches in the city. It’s not a surprise that some call Split the most beautiful city in the world. Behind the ancient walls of the Palace of Diocletian, there’s the old town. Once it served as a summer house for the emperor. The palace, built around 295, is one of the most notable pieces of Roman architecture on the eastern side of the Adriatic. The St. Doimus cathedral is also here, formerly it was the mausoleum of Diocletian. Don’t forget to visit the palace of Papalić which is the most famous Gothic building in the city from the 15th century.

When it comes to baroque there’s another beautiful palace called Cindro Palace. In addition to history, the nightclubs in Split offer a great pastime for young people. Visit the most popular one called Vanilla Club, where you can choose from several genres of music to fit your taste. Various events attract visitors, such as Diocletian days, when residents show visitors the 1700 year long history of their beloved city. They march on the streets of the former palace wearing togas and tunics. Antique carriages take the emperor and his wife along the Riviera.

Split Luxury Yacht Charter: Explore the Heart of the Adriatic

catamaran charter croatia split

With Split Luxury Yacht Charter Guide we are taking you to the serene islands of the Split Archipelago, like Biševo with its famous Blue Cave, southern shores of Vis, Pakleni islands and Hvar

Split, as well as the entire Adriatic coast, is blessed by the mild Mediterranean climate, which means a lot of sun and heat, especially in the summer months, and very few cold and rainy days. Although there is a whole range of things you can do in Split throughout the year, such as the obligatory walk through the UNESCO-protected Diocletian’s Palace, if you love hubbub, parties and concerts, this enchanting city should definitely visit in the heart of the season.

Climate and ideal time to visit Split

split town croatia Diocletian palace

In July and August, all of Split seems to be dressed summer dresses, just in time for the world-famous Ultra Europe festival (July 8-10, 2022). On the other hand, those who are into more romantic experiences will surely be delighted by the spring face of Split and the surrounding islands, which seem to wake up around Easter, as do most travel agencies, cafes and restaurants , opening their doors and welcoming first visitors.

Featured Yachts

However, it should be emphasized that for many September, and more often October, are the most desirable part of the year to visit Croatia and Split, as in pre- and post-season there are no crowds, prices are lower, and weather and sea temperatures are still pleasant for all sea-related activities.

Throughout this summer half of the year, an extremely large number of visitors decide to charter a yacht in Split because the Split area is one of the top charter destinations in Croatia .

Marinas and berths in Split archipelago

Split yacht charter is extremely popular because of the many magical surrounding destinations, but also because some of the most beautiful Croatian marinas are located in this part of the Adriatic.

ACI marina Split

split luxury yacht charter guide aci marina

The city of Split is dotted with many small, local marinas, but with 320 berths by far the most visited is ACI Marina Split (+385 (0) 98 398 850) which offers much-needed parking sports for yacht owners. In case you are looking for parking in and around ACI Marina Split, first look inside the marina.

One very attractive anchoring spot near Split is the Blue Lagoon, which is located between Veliki and Mali Krknjaš, and the much larger Veli Drvenik.

Marina Martinis Marchi

Maslinica island of Solta Split luxury yachts charter guide

ACI marina Milna

On the island of Brač , the largest nautical center is the deep Milna cove with three marinas: ACI marina Milna (+385 (0) 98 398 851) with 170 berths, Yacht club Milna (+385 (0) 91 400 04 87) with 45 berths and Marina Vlaška (+385 (0) 99 244 7410) with 70 berths. Apart from Milna, the nearby Brač Yachting Anchorage Bobovišća (+385 (0) 91 500 1619) is also becoming increasingly popular, where you can book your place on the buoy in advance.

ACI marina Palmižana

aci marina palmizana hvar charter

Pakleni islands off the coast of Hvar seem to have been created for anchoring, as was the nearby ACI Marina Palmižana (+385 (0) 21 744 995) with 180 berths. The nearby Vinogradišće cove offers the possibility of buoy berths (concessionaire Đenko Meneghello +385 (0) 91 171 82 42), and in addition to providing protection from almost all winds except the south, is locally famous for a spectacular number of excellent restaurants to visit by boat .

Anchorages on Vis island

If you are aiming towards Vis, make sure to stop at Budikovac, beloved for its turquoise lagoon whose depth rarely exceeds 2 meters. One of everyone’s favorite coves on the island is Stončica, where buoys have been set up to welcome yachts, and the same concessionaire (Gradina Vis +385 (0) 21 711 121) offers buoys in the town of Vis, where boaters have 100 berths at their disposal.

Budikovac island Vis Luxury Yacht Charter Guide

In Komiža , 30 boats can be moored on the waterfront (SDZ Port Authority +385 (0) 21 339 825), and 60 buoys have been set up in Komiža Bay (Komiža Nautical Center +385 (0) 21 713 215). Contact the Komiža Nautical Center if you decide to visit the Mezoporat cove on the island of Biševo, where 20 buoys have also been set up.

Yachting routes that pass through the Split waters are by far the most popular on the Adriatic due to the magnetic attraction of this part of the Croatian Adriatic and the fabulous pearl-like islands that surround this city – Hvar , Pakleni islands, southern coast of Vis, Blue Cave on the island of Biševo. Gather your crew, opt for Split luxury yacht charter and direct your bow to the south.

Puteus Palace Hotel Brac island croatia

Island of Brač

Along the way, many boaters want to swerve a little toward the island of Brač and the deep Milna cove, whose Italian name valle di mille navi is due to its legendary depth and the ability to host a thousand ships. Those who want to experience the local atmosphere of a small island town can spend their first night in Bobovišće cove where most boats moor, while lovers of calm, picturesque nature can sail to the southern shores of this stunning island.

Island of Šolta

island of solta croatia

If your cruise hasn’t started in Šolta, make sure you visit the island as the icing on the cake of your Split yacht charter. This island has similar yachting attributes as the neighboring Brač, but is much smaller and isolated. On island of Šolta , the most desirable destination among boaters is Maslinica, an authentic fishing village that today shines with new splendor and is the proud home of the most beautiful Croatian boutique marina Martinis Marchi .

We also warmly recommend a visit to the picturesque town of Stomorska or the turquoise southern coves that maintain a certain wild feeling to them and are ideal for all fans of intimate lovers of more mysterious moments.

Hvar and Pakleni Islands

town hvar yacht charter

Many boaters who opt for an early check-in during their Split yacht charter immediately decide to cover about twenty-five miles and conquer Pakleni islands, and spend time exploring this enchanting archipelago counting 21 islands, islets and cliffs. Pakleni islands – which sounds like hell islands in Croatian – do not justify their name and are actually as peaceful as you can imagine, seeing how they are actually named after a wood resin – paklina – found around here.

The largest island in this archipelago is St. Clement, and with no southerly wind all of its southern coves are true oases of beauty and pleasure. Stretching west to east, the spacious Soline, the turquoise Taršće, the slightly smaller Stari Stani and the most popular Vinogradišće coves lure with their charms.

On this list is also the too popular Stipanska cove on the islet of Marinkovac, whose vibrant and loud nightlife might not be everyone’s cup of tea. In any case, St. Clement is serene, criss-crossed with trekking paths that connect all its bays and are a great opportunity for an hour or two spent in nature.

hvar pakleni islands croatia boat charter

Should you want a stronger ‘connection’ to the land, either due to unfavorable weather conditions or just in case, ACI Marina Palmižana and the northern shores of St. Clement are only a few miles away, and the mesmerizing beauties of Hvar are at your fingertips.

You can stay in this micro area of Hvar for several days, just like many local families have been doing for decades, but it would be a real shame no to go farther and get to know the entire island.

Vis and beautiful beaches

The southeastern side of Vis and a range of incredibly beautiful islands are only a dozen nautical miles away. We suggest that you first drop your anchor in Stončica, a sandy cove with turquoise water, and take a walk to the nearby lighthouse, among the beautiful in the Adriatic. In its immediate vicinity to the east lies Smokova cove, where even in the high season there aren’t too many boats, and which is known as an ideal destination for playing picigin, a highly addictive local ball game.

Later, you can visit the other sandy haven on the island – the nearby Zaglav cove, where you can indulge in a dive among the many fan mussels, allow yourself to be charmed by the surrounding turquoise or bask in the sun lying on the fine sand that this uninhabited cove is famous for. Right around the corner lies the town of Rukavac, whose northern side is covered in rocky shores, and whose much gentler southern side is a haven with white pebble beaches, like the beloved Tepluš beach. Both sides are suitable for anchoring (in the absence of southerlies) and are separated by a stone pier suitable for docking for vessels with shallow draft.

In case the weather forecast is favorable, spend the night in the turquoise lagoon that mourns the island of Budikovac. This island is a unique microcosm that doesn’t lose its peculiar character even at the peak of the yachting season. A local celebrity Andro Slavić lives in Budikovac all year round, where he has a real small ranch and a uniquely imaginative restaurant.

The next day, as soon as the sun approaches its zenith, let the magical colors of the Green Cave on the neighboring island of Ravnik spill over you. After that, visit another island delight – Srebrna beach, whose name – silver – is a misnomer, as the this cove boasts the most beautiful white pebble beach.

Sailing along the southern shores of Vis in the direction of sunset, you’ll find it hard to choose where to drop your anchor. Ruda cove lures with its almost Caribbean shades of blue, Mala and Vela Travna with imaginative configurations of rocky shores and silky miniature pebble bottoms, and the famous Stiniva is a true masterpiece of Mother Nature. This ‘cove in a cove’ is reminiscent of an exclusive pool, open 24/7 for the lucky ones.

Town Komiza Vis Luxury Yacht Charter Guide

Spend the night in the picturesque fishing village of Komiža if the sky is not frowning from the west, which is usually a sign of bad weather. Drop your anchor at the waterfront or tie your vessel to one of the many buoys, but wherever you stay, make sure you leave Komiža exactly as you found it.

Visit local beaches around Komiža, walk to the most impressive symbol of the town – the church of St. Nicholas, and if you want a unique adventure, rent a bike and conquer the steep, steep road to one of the most spectacular Adriatic lookouts, from where you’ll be able to chose where to turn your bow next. Vis luxury yacht charter is a ideal mixture of magical beaches, pristine nature and delicious local cuisine.

Biševo and Blue cave

biševo island split luxury yacht charter

You can complete your cruise with a visit to the magical Biševo island and the beautiful Blue Cave. A visit to this island some 40 miles toward the open sea almost always remains imprinted into the visitors’ minds ss one of the most beautiful memories from their Split yacht charter, which is why this very special, almost zen destination, deserves a special full-length feature.

One of the best in Croatia. Split is the largest city on the Croatian Adriatic Coast and a favourite starting point for many sailors, the main reason being its central location. This makes it an excellent base for exploring, especially the Dalmatian islands of Brač, Šolta, Hvar and Vis, but also Korčula, Pelješac and Lastovo to the south or the unique Šibenik-Kornati archipelago to the north.

With Yachts Croatia, you can charter a variety of yachts from Split, bareboat or crewed, ranging from the 10 meter motor boats like Antares 36 and popular catamarans like Sunreef 50 to over 40 meter long luxury yachts like Benetti and luxury sailing yachts like Clase Azul.

There are many things to consider when chartering a yacht, and the size of a yacht is the key factor impacting the price. In our charter section you can find motor and sailing boats, catamarans, luxury sailing yachts and luxury yachts. Through Yachts Croatia listings, a charter vacation on a yacht can range from a minimum of €16,000 per week (22 metre yacht Glorious) to a maximum of €210,000 per week (40 metre yacht Happy Me). The basic price of renting a luxury yacht includes the hire of the yacht, yacht’s insurance and crew service.

Why Choose a Power Catamaran?

Power catamarans are synonymous with luxury and stability on the water. The dual-hull design provides a smooth sailing experience, making it a top choice for those prone to seasickness. With spacious lounges, modern amenities, and the power to cruise swiftly across the Adriatic, these vessels are your ticket to a lavish sea adventure. Explore the best catamaran brands to make an informed choice. Moreover, the shallow draft allows access to secluded bays, opening a realm of unexplored destinations . Opt for a power catamaran and sail Croatia in unparalleled style and comfort.

Advantages of Power Catamaran Compared to Motor Yacht

  • They offer the space, comfort, and fuel efficiency that the monohulled motor yachts just cannot match.
  • They offer a much smoother ride as they use two narrow hulls instead of one wide hull which reduces wave impacts. The two hulls also offer much greater stability as the hulls are wide apart and counterbalance each other.
  • An advantage that is obvious at first glance is the abundance of deck space that the catamarans offer as they are wider to start with and they are not much narrower when you approach the bow. You will find plenty of space on the deck to sunbathe, relax, or socialize with your friends.
  • The large space continues on the inside. The large communal areas with panoramic views are a joy to spend time in while the cabins are below in the hulls and offer plenty of privacy when you feel like resting.

All of the above makes a perfect yacht for a relaxed and safe family vacation or a fun trip with your friends.

If you are a fan of motor yachts, you should try a powered catamaran. You might never look back.

Cost of boat rental in split.

The prices for yacht charters in Split are closely tied to the weather and sailing conditions throughout the year. They tend to be at their lowest in March, corresponding to the low season, and reach their peak in July when demand is high and sailing conditions are optimal.

Split, Croatia is many sailors' dream destination. Set on the Adriatic Sea, this coastal town offers everything a European sailor may want. The spring and summer months have favorable temperatures and strong winds for sailing. Plus, the small towns around Split offer a variety of cultural experiences to enjoy during the day. Tourist sites such as Diocletian’s Palace and Peristil Square make for a memorable visit to archaic Croatia .

Split is the next frontier for sailors who have already experienced everything the Mediterranean has to offer, or who want to go off the beaten path. Croatian sailing is less about coastal relaxation and more about historic majesty and cultural immersion. 12 Knots can provide an exceptional sailing experience for you and your group.

Split is an ideal place to begin a sailing charter for all group sizes and needs. Whether you’re an experienced skipper or a beginner taking on their first major sailing trip, we can provide the creature comforts and information needed to make your trip memorable. Below is some of the most important information about Split bareboat rentals for you to start planning and booking your trip.

Sailing Conditions in Split

Split offers exceptional sailing conditions throughout the year. Temperatures range from 22-28 C in the spring, and 26-30 C in the summer. Wind speeds typically reach 10 to 20 knots with calm seas in the warmer months. The early autumn can also be an enjoyable time to sail; however, temperatures begin to drop in October, causing an increase in rainfall.

Three dominant winds determine sailing conditions in Split:

  • The Bora: This north-easterly wind brings cool weather to the Adriatic Sea and coastline
  • The Sirocco: This warm and humid wind reaches the entire Adriatic coastline at a typical speed of 16-20 knots.
  • The Maestral: This wind is strongest in the mornings with average speeds of 16-20 knots.

Best Time to Vacation in Split

Sailing in Split is best in the late spring, summer, and early fall. During these times you can expect calm seas and a warm, dry climate. Average temperatures in Croatia are favorable most of the year except for the winter months. This brings many other sailing tourists to the area, with whom you may have to compete for moorings.

The summer is the busiest time, so if you’re planning a summer sailing trip expect crowds in the cities. However, traveling to Croatia in the summer affords some of the most beautiful blue skies, warm waters, and very little rain. Regardless of the time you plan your trip, be vigilant of local weather patterns to best plan sailing times and duration.

Sailing Difficulty Level

Croatia has over 1200 islands and cities from which to start sailing, but Split is the perfect place to do so. This area is equipped for beginner sailors with plenty of mooring buoys and marinas and can offer easier conditions to sail than parts of the Mediterranean.

For beginners, sailing from May to September will offer the best conditions. Regardless of your experience level, you will want to be cautious at popular marinas due to the influx of sailors during “Yacht Week” and the official sailing season.

If you are planning to book a bareboat charter in Split, Croatia, you will need to provide a certificate of competence. These are required for all sailing vessels in the region. If you do not have such a certificate, a crewed charter will be provided, as all 12 Knots crews are certified.

You can get in touch with the captain as soon as you’ve completed your booking. Our captains are highly qualified and knowledgeable about their locality.

The Charter Fee is an additional, obligatory cost, which typically includes the end cleaning of the boat, home port fees, and linen & towels. The details of the charter fee differ depending on the boat, location and charter partner.

There are marina fees and fuel costs which vary depending on the type, duration and location of your sailing holiday. Marina fees need to be paid at each marina you choose to dock overnight - the amount varies but you may be able to find this information in advance by contacting the marinas directly. Fuel costs depend on whether you’re sailing a motorboat or a sailboat. You can estimate fuel costs by double-checking your chosen boat’s engine, and the expected distance you aim to sail.

Sailing on a catamaran in Split

Split is a true paradise for anyone dreaming of a sailing adventure in the Mediterranean on a catamaran. Visit the most stunning beaches around Split, including Beach Stobrec Jug . Prepare yourself for a truly relaxing boat vacation, charter a catamaran in Split for a fun week long vacation. Forget about your worries, sail in Dalmatia!

The pros of renting a catamaran in Split

Rent a catamaran in Split if you like to be flexible. Split and its surroundings are known for their ideal wind conditions. You can set your sail or drive with the power of the engine - depending on the weather situation. Isn’t it amazing that you can pick and choose whatever works best at the exact moment you need to make a decision? If the wind suddenly stops blowing you won’t just get stuck in the middle of the sea, you can simply revert to using the engine. Catamarans are really good at making our lives easier - exactly what you need on a sailing holiday in Croatia.

Charter a catamaran in Split if you want to be extra comfy, feel super safe and enjoy a lot more space on board compared to other types of boats. Standing on two hulls gives catamarans extra stability, making them feel less shaky in more turbulent weather conditions. Of course you will hear the water hitting the bottom of the boat much louder, you won’t feel it. This makes catamarans also much more comfortable for anyone easily suffering from sea sickness.

A catamaran rental in Split is also a fantastic idea for anyone who wants to explore all the beautiful secluded beaches, bays and grottos this part of Dalmatia has to offer. Catamarans have a shallow draft, making them perfect for sailing in shallow waters. You can also sail closer to the shore than with other types of boats. You can also easily hide from the wind in a bay when it suddenly picks up speed.

The cons of renting a catamaran in Split

One of the downsides of chartering a catamaran in Split is that catamarans are relatively big and mooring spots at the marinas can be difficult to find. It might become especially tricky during the busy summer months July and August. Adding to that are the extra costs you need to consider when trying to find a spot for mooring at a marina. As it seems more strenuous than rewarding, you might be better off anchoring in a bay sheltered from the wind and with the most stunning views rather than a marina.

Another downsides of catamarans is that compared to a monohull they are often much lighter and therefore might not be able to reach the same speed as a monohull.

Charter a private luxury catamaran in Split

Want to live the high life during your sailing vacation in Croatia? Charter a luxury catamaran in Split to live like the rich and famous for a week. Enjoy all the amenities on board you can think of. A stove, fridge, freezer and a coffee machine are basics that you literally find on any luxury catamaran to ensure that the crew on board can prepare your meals while you soak up the sun. Other common add-ons include SUPs and snorkelling equipment.

How many people can go on a catamaran in Split?

Catamarans are usually built to host 10-12 people, it can almost be referred to as the standard size. This makes catamarans the perfect choice for intimate vacations with your closest friends or family. Sure, you can always try to book a bigger or smaller catamaran in Split , but you won’t find them so often.

When is the best time to sail on a catamaran in Split?

If you want to chase the sun, Split is the perfect place for you. With an average of 315 sunny days per year it doesn’t come as a surprise that the largest city in Dalmatia is one of the most popular sailing destinations in the world. The summer months July and August are the warmest months of the year, but you can also find warm weather in September and October. If you decide to come here when the crowds have already flown home, you will also be blessed with warm water temperatures.

Between December and April the weather can be quite unpredictable and change from one minute to the next without warning. Therefore sailing on a catamaran in Split during this time is not really recommended.

Three winds dominate this part of Croatia. The Bura, quite a cold north-easterly wind; the Sirocco, a warm and humid wind - watch out as it might cause a commotion at sea; and the Maestral.

How much does it cost to rent a catamaran in Split?

The average price of renting a catamaran in Croatia is 460 EUR per person per day, but it’s not a reason to freak out. There are much more affordable catamarans out there calling your name. The prices for a catamaran charter in Split also highly depend on the season, the size of the yacht and the amenities on board. Renting a catamaran in Split off-season can save you a lot of money!

What kind of boat licence do I need when renting a catamaran in Split?

Anyone who plans on renting a boat in Croatia must possess a valid boat licence, as well as a VHF radio licence. This includes anyone who wants to rent a catamaran in Split.

If you don’t have a boat licence or simply don’t want to operate the boat yourself, hire an experienced skipper or captain in addition to your bareboat charter. This means that you have to pay extra, but you also get to enjoy your holiday more, because someone else is taking care of navigating and operating the boat.

The best routes for catamarans in Split

This part of Dalmatia offers some of the most stunning sailing routes in all of Croatia. It’s the perfect mix between history, nature and Instagrammable locations.

Day 1 - Sail from Split to Brač on a catamaran : If you want to get your history fix before heading out at sea you should discover Diocletian’s Palace . Next head to the lovely island Brač which is only around 10 nautical miles away from Split. Here you should soak up the sun on the beach of Zlatni Rat . The beach is regularly voted one of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia.

Day 2 - Sail from Brač to Vis on a catamaran: Komiža on the island of Vis is only around 20 nautical miles away from Brač and the perfect spot for mooring for the night. Stroll along the picturesque streets of this quaint little town and admire the stunning views - especially during sunset. Should the wind be stronger than you expected you might want to spend the night in Vis city instead for extra protection.

Day 3 - Sail from Vis to Lastovo on a catamaran : The island of Lastovo is only 35 nautical miles away from Vis and perfect for anyone who would like to explore a place where fewer tourists go. Less than 1.000 people live here and if you want to take a break from staying on your catamaran charter all day long, you can revive your adventurous soul and hike along one of the many hiking trails on the island.

Day 4 - Sail from Lastovo to Korčula on a catamaran : Korčula island is only 20 nautical miles away from Lastovo and is one of those spots that you have to see on your island hopping vacation in Croatia. Day 5 - Sail from Korčula to Hvar on a catamaran: The island of Hvar is only 32 nautical miles away and one of the most popular destinations in Croatia. Best known for its lively nightlife and party scene, tourists from all over the globe flock to the city in the summer. If you don’t enjoy partying as much, you can always participate in a wine tasting or discover the blooming lavender fields if you come here during the right season.

Day 6 - Sail from Hvar to Stari Grad on a catamaran : As Stari Grad is only 15 nautical miles away from Hvar you can take it easy. Take your time to walk along the historic streets of the city - after all, it’s supposed to be the oldest town in all of Croatia. If you get the chance you should go on a vineyard tour to learn more about the local wines.

Day 7: Sail from Stari Grad to Split on a catamaran : It’s time to go home! Sail back to Split right away and leave your catamaran with the charter or stop by one of the many beaches before returning to the marina. Whatever you decide to do, you shouldn’t leave Split before having a last meal in this magnificent city. Try one of the many local seafood dishes to finish off your sailing holiday on a catamaran in Split .

Croya Charter Show Coming to Split Soon

Lauren Simmonds

September 6, 2024

croya charter show

September the 6th, 2024 – From October the 4th to the 6th, the beautiful city of Split will host the first CROYA Charter Show, a specialised international exhibition of crewed yachts.

This prestigious business event (B2B) will allow charter agents from all over the world to observe some of the most luxurious yachts available for charter in Croatia in one place first time ever. The only yachts that will be presented are those with permanent crews and which range from 20 to 55 metres in length. They will be motor yachts, sailboats, motor-sails, gulets, and luxury catamarans over 15 metres.

Local experts will also have the opportunity to showcase their charter operations and strengthen their connections with international clients. The vessels will be displayed on Split’s Zapadna obala.

Around 100 foreign charter agents are expected to attend the first CROYA Charter Show, where they will be introduced to a fleet of about 50 luxury yachts available for charter in this country. There will also be educational seminars on the best sailing routes, as well as entertainment programmes featuring chefs and crew members.

“This top-tier event will offer our industry colleagues a unique opportunity to gain real insight into the Croatian luxury yacht market and the exceptional nautical destinations along our coast,” emphasised Stipe Petričević, president of CROYA, the event organiser. This association will bring together experts from yacht charter companies and maritime agencies to contribute their extensive experience and knowledge to the development of the most prestigious segment of Croatia’s nautical tourism.

Croatia has one of the largest charter fleets in the entire world, but the offer of luxury crewed yachts is much smaller. This is a niche market for high spending guests, who charter vessels through agents. Introducing the CROYA Charter Show and Split to the map of charter yacht shows is crucial for positioning the Croatian coastline as an elite yachting destination for wealthier clientele.

“Participants will have the opportunity to visit and assess a wide range of vessels, meet captains and crews, and taste the gastronomy aboard the yachts. In other words, they will be able to form their own informed opinions about the yachts and the destination itself, which is invaluable when choosing vessels for charter guests. It will also be an excellent opportunity for luxury vessel product and service providers to present themselves to owners, agents, and captains, as well as other foreign visitors, professionals in the sector,” noted Maja Ban, a member of the show’s organising committee.

The CROYA Charter Show is being held as part of Split’s Sailing Festival, under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, in partnership with the Croatian Tourist Board. Other partners in the project include the City of Split, the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, the Split Tourist Board, and the Port Authority of Split-Dalmatia County.
