Captain jean-luc picard 1.
At the bottom of Voyager's saucer, is the outline of a small vessel. Here's a close up pictue of the underside of Voyager's saucer.
Some seem to think it's the Aeroshuttle .
So, what do you think? Aeroshuttle or Captain's Yacht?
Link to post, share on other sites, prometheus 0.
I read in the official Star Trek Fact Files: definitely an aeroshuttle. Never used in Voyager because it formed an integral part of the ship's outer hull and to loose it in combat would have left a large part of Voyager exposed.
http://mitglied.lycos.de/kohlen_saenger/Mo...eroshuttle.html
Go here to see it in more detail...
COOL SHUTTLE!!!
I didnt know that voyager had one like that looks
It was sesigned with wings for travelling better through atmospheres - hence the 'aero' part.
Hrh the king 0.
It would have been nice to see it in action, in an episode.
We never saw the Captain's Yacht being used in TNG either: it looked like a mini saucer section. Strange...
That's true, however, I have the TNG technical manual and it shows what the yacht would look like if detached from the Enterprise. The top side would be "dome-like" with pairs of saucer-style windows, two in back, front, and two on each side.
I never noticed that outline before, but it the shuttle looks cool.
Really? It was in insurrection? :opens the desk drawer to the left of him to reveal all his star trek dvd's, and puts insurrection in his computer:
Woah, that looks like a Transwarp Coil on top of the shuttle.
ohhhh slip streem....... well, I donno. I'd actually say it was an old warp coil. But then again, it's probably has nothing to do with the warp system, and just seems like it could be. even though it's in the right spot........
1. The areoshuttle was designed by fans.
2. Even if this were the official design, Voyager was built before slipstream drive and Borg transwarp coils had been discovered.
It could be an upgraded version after Voyager's return. Maybe Feds start using Transwarp in the future series.
If the areoshuttle was designed by fans and the topic of this thread was never officially named on the show (canonized) then isn't it impossible for us to say exactly what that ship was?
Speculatively my answer would be: since we've seen ships that occupy that same space on other Starships called the Captains Yacht , it's a captains yacht.
Well, Star Trek: The Magazine called it an aeroshuttle. My theory is that it's used as a planetary drop ship of some kind. Maybe they only use it when Voyager has landed on the surface of a planet? If they need to go somewhere, they take the aeroshuttle instead of a normal shuttle? That's my theory anyway.
It's interesting that you posted this when you did. I had just been thinking a day or 2 earlier about the the Captains Yacht on the Enterprise D and wondered if Voyager had one. During TNG, after I found out there was a Yacht by looking at the TNG trading cards I always wanted to see it used.

You could have shared that bit of info in your original post but does the The Magazine saying it make it official canon? Where did the info they published come from?
I forgot at the time. As for being canon, I just assumed that technical info like that seen in the manuals, encyclopedia, and magazines was canon.

ya i saw this too.. but i wish they would have use it in the show.
Well can we all just IMAGINE that that is what it is and looks like. What is all this flippin Canon (I'm trying to say a bad word but can't)?
canon=Official (mentioned in the series)
and i like the shuttle....but think that it was great Voyager didnt "cannonly" have it...

Actually, Voyager did. We just don't know what it looks like nor what it's called as it was never seen on screen. Look closely at the picture of the bottom of Voyager's saucer. You can clearly make out landing gear, thrusters, and Voyager's namd and registry on the bottom of the craft.
Word of the day:
CANON CANON CANON CANON CANON CANON
USE IT SOME MORE. GO ON, I DARE YA!!
Interesting I never noticed it....
Have you seen INSURRECTION ? If so, how did you miss it?
I donno. I watched it. Granted I was sorta tired, but I still missed it. Could you give me the chapter it's on or general location? lol.

The Captain's yacht is an obtainable ship in Star Trek Online. It is one of the game's many bonuses for subscribers and Lifetime subscribers, obtainable once a player reaches 400 days subscribed or automatically once the Lifetime subscription is activated. It resembles the Cousteau.
The captain's yacht was a type of auxiliary vessel installed aboard several classes of Federation starships in the 24th century, including the Galaxy-class and Sovereign-classes. On both designs, the yacht is launched from the underside of the saucer section and was used by the ship's captain to travel alone or to host visiting dignitaries. While Captain Jean-Luc Picard commanded the USS ...

The Cousteau was a Federation captain's yacht that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to USS Enterprise-E. Cousteau was a large auxiliary craft which normally docked on the ventral side of the saucer section, opposite the bridge, and immediately below the saucer torpedo launcher. When connected to the Enterprise, only the bottom side of the yacht was exposed to ...
12. When you look over the Star Trek the Next Generation Technical Manual's schematics of the USS Enterprise, one interesting thing indicated on the underside of the saucer section is the presence of the captain's yacht. It was a flying saucer looking ship that seemed to be a miniature of the Enterprise's saucer section.
(Star Trek: The Magazine Volume 1, Issue 16, p. 55) I always thought it was an artifact from the model kit. A hole was left in the underside of the saucer section to display the saucer separated, but when the ship was fully assembled a small oval part fit into the hole labeled "Captain's Yacht".
In the Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4 finale "Old Friends, New Planets", Captain Freeman's secret third vessel is the Captain's Yacht, a frequently forgotten part of starship design that's finally put to good use as an integral part of Mariner's rescue from Nick Locarno's Nova Fleet. The Captain's Yacht is a small warp-capable spacecraft intended for the captain's personal use that detaches ...
Apparently, no. The Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual (considered, if not entirely canon, at least a quasi-official authoritative source), gives the following description of the Captain's Yacht:. The yacht is capable of sustained sublight velocities approaching 0.65c. The impulse propulsion system (IPS) consists of six sequential beam-fusion reaction chambers feeding a central ...

The yacht is only separated when necessary, particularly for diplomatic missions. In contrast to usual shuttles it is relatively big - nearly twice as large as the Danube class. The Sovereign class Captain's yacht is the first one to have genuine external nacelles, while former models were equipped with integrated warp nacelles.
Nov 3, 2020. #4. In navies of yore, the gig formally dedicated to the Captain was basically the opposite of what the Starfleet Yachts are to the usual shuttles. The gig would have been the smallest of the boats, often nested inside the others, and useless for anything but serving as the Captain's water taxi. In contrast, the E-E Yacht is more ...

Data attacks the Son'a command ship with the small Captain's Yacht.Star Trek Insurection (1998)
Anyway the interior of the Yacht is the only part of the entire ship that hasen't got any plans and it bugs me, i find this rather unsatisfying. I did read somewhere that a databook tells us that the interior layout is similar to that of a Danube-Runabout. But that doesn't fit at all. Not the front windows, not the over all size and neither the ...
A captain's yacht is a type of auxiliary vessel that was installed aboard several classes of Federation starships in the 24th century, including the Galaxy, Gustav P. The captain's yacht carried onboard the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D and other Galaxy-class starships are used for the captain's personal use, normally diplomatic missions. The yacht measures 18 meters long, 10 meters wide, and 8 meters high, with a mass of 95 metric tons. It's located in the center on the ventral side of the saucer, directly below the bridge.
The Calypso was a Federation captain's yacht that was in service with Starfleet in the mid-24th century, attached to Galaxy-class starships, among others the USS Enterprise-D. (Star Trek Generations) Calypso was the name for the yacht in ...
The Captain's Yacht is a rarely seen vessel even though one is equipped in the USS Enterprise-E and other starships.Surprisingly, support-level starships like the California-class USS Cerritos also have a Captain's Yacht.Star Trek: The Next Generation had a Captain's Yacht docked beneath the saucer of the USS Enterprise-D all throughout the series, but it was never utilized.
2 Answers. The "Gig" is in fact the small vessel (known as the "Captain's yacht") docked underneath the ship's saucer section on the Enterprises D and E. The one on the Enterprise-D (The ' Calypso ') was never used or even referred to in the TV show, with descriptions existing solely in the various technical manuals and trading cards:
The Seleya Class Captains Yacht was developed over the past several years to become the 'standard' Captain's Yacht design for Star Fleet to use on Capital Ships and some space stations. It is designed with dual docking mechanisms, one on the aft for standard docking, and one on the dorsal for docking 'into' the bottom of a Heavy Cruiser, Battle ...

An aeroshuttle was a runabout-sized spacecraft embedded in the saucer underside of Intrepid-class starships. In 2376, Dala and Zar, posing as Captain Kathryn Janeway and Chakotay, showed Varn a schematic of the USS Voyager which identified its aeroshuttle. (VOY: "Live Fast and Prosper") A graphic of an aeroshuttle also appeared in Daniels' database while it was being viewed by Captain Archer ...
The launch scene was never used on screen because the producers did not want to trump the similar launch sequence of the captain's yacht Cousteau from Star Trek: Insurrection. A full-fledged CGI model was constructed of the Aeroshuttle by Robert Bonchune at Foundation Imaging as well as a launch sequence.
