Gulets are traditionally Turkish-built wooden motor sailor yachts which are usually much larger in volume than your average sailing yacht, with an abundance of open-plan living spaces.

Turkish gulet yachts are less expensive than other charter vessels of the same size, and can often offer all-inclusive or semi-inclusive packages, meaning you don’t need to worry about additional expenses such as food and drink. They also normally include a standard number of cruising hours per day.  Plus, their crew are often local to the region that they cruise in, meaning they can double as tour guides and can provide a lot of valuable expertise.

You can visit Greek Islands on your Turkish gulet charter vacation, but you will need to embark and disembark in a port in Turkey unless it has a Greek Charter Licence - which is very rare. 

Gulets are not available in the West Mediterranean cruising areas.

The average price of a motor yacht or sailing yacht rental in the Mediterranean will depend on several factors, including the vessel's age, type, crew, as well as the duration of the vacation and whether it is high or low season.

One aspect to keep in mind is that there are important distinctions to be made between the average costs for West Mediterranean and East Mediterranean yachting vacations. While exact costs can vary from yacht to yacht, typically, West Mediterranean yacht charters will involve newer, larger vessels and include a high-quality, international workforce, and therefore tend to usually incur higher prices. When is the Best Time for Mediterranean Yacht Charters?

The best time for a yachting vacation on the Mediterranean is between May and August, although weather is still pleasant in the shoulder months of April and September, with some East Mediterranean locations experiencing high temperatures well into October (Croatia, Turkey, Greece).

We advise booking your Mediterranean yacht rental at least three months in advance to ensure you get the yacht you desire. The longer you leave it, the fewer choices you will have to rent in the Mediterranean.

One of the wonderful aspects about renting a yacht in the Mediterranean is the exceedingly long season. For example in West Mediterranean locations like France, Spain and Italy, the best time to visit is usually from May until September. This balmy weather extends to well into October in East Mediterranean destinations like Greece, Croatia, Montenegro and Turkey.

For your Mediterranean superyacht charter, you will need to provide a completed charter agreement and 50% of the charter fee as a deposit. This is payable once the contract has been signed.

When booking a Mediterranean yacht rental, do keep in mind the costs that aren't included in the base rate, namely VAT and the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). The APA is usually paid in advance of the charter and is commonly set at 30% of the charter fee. This allowance covers expenses such as fuel, berthing, food and drinks, as well as any special requests.

A 25-day private yacht charter itinerary visiting Italy , Corsica , France and Monaco .

Fly into Genoa, and after travelling to the nearest port board your private motor or sailing yacht. In the afternoon you will head to Portofino.

Portofino. Spend today exploring the famous Portofino. Portofino a small Italian fishing village and tourist resort.

Today you will continue along Cinque Terra to the village of Portovenere which is just north of La Spezia. Portovenere is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You may also like to visit Palmaria one of the three islands located just off the coast of Portovenere. Palmaria is the largest island and has nice beaches. The highlight of the island is the Blue Grotto, accessible only from the sea.

Continue south to Fort Di Marmi. Forte dei Marmi is located along the northern Tuscany coast between the Marinas of Ronci and Pietrasanta, in an area known as Versilia. Forte dei Marmi is known for its clean, sandy beaches. Santa Maria Beach was voted one of the worlds top ten beaches in 2006.

On to Elba today to the stunning port of Porto Ferreira. The port is lined with beautiful little seaside restaurants and lots of shopping a boutiques close by. Approximately 10km from the Italian mainland, Elba is one of the greenest and most beautiful islands in The Med. Wide sandy beaches and romantic bays offer excellent windsurfing, swimming and diving. Famous for being Napoleon’s place of exile in 1814, Elba has many monuments and museums dedicated to his memory. You may also want to try some Aleatico or Moscato, Elban wines which are two of Tuscany's best!

We recommend spending today at Porto Santa Stefano by Orbetello. This is a gorgeous port town with crystal clear water and markets framed by vine covered mountains. This is a wonderful port known to the lucky few, as the ‘unknown’ Portofino.. Enjoy the day here then head off overnight to Porto Vecchio in Southern Corsica.

Porto Vecchio – Set on a hillock overlooking a beautiful deep blue bay, Porto Vecchio, is said to be one of the most distinguished harbours in Europe". Enjoy the day taking in the fabulous scenery or visiting one of the areas many stunning beaches.

Bonifaccio - Bonifaccio sits like a masterpiece in the extreme south and is a unique place of interest. No one can resist the fascination of this old town which is dazzlingly sits perched atop a cliff, nor the appeal of its old alleys which climb up toward the sky. Bonifaccio is a town of immense charm and a wonderful place to sample some or the local bars and restaurants.

The La Madeline Archipelago: This is a national Park between Corsica and Sardinia. The archipelago is composed of seven isles of extraordinary beauty, all together which protect the International Park of the Bocche di Bonifaccio. Thanks to its favourable position, La Magdalena Archipelago allows its visitors to alternate peaceful days enjoying a superb and wild nature and romantic evenings under the moonlight with the glamorous night life that takes place in Porto Cervo & Porto Rotondo.

Northern Sardinia and Porto Rotondo and the Maddelena Islands. Cruise round to the island of Tavalara, which is a high granite island that overlooks the east coast. After a day in the sun and sea, thunder back at an exhilarating pace to Porto Rotondo.

Porto Cervo, Northern Sardinia and the Maddelena Islands. Porto Cervo was originally built by the Agha Khan, as a playground for Europe’s glitterati; it’s a shopping paradise, with all the big names a stones throw away from each other. Every evening the people throng the pretty streets and restaurants to see and be seen!

Head back up the west coast of Corsica and anchor at the Gulf of Valinco. The Gulf of Valinco is perhaps one the most beautiful gulf on the west coast of the island. To the north of the bay is Cappiciolo - perhaps one of the best spots on the Gulf with it's picturesque coves of golden sand fringed by rocks, and Porto Pollo, a sheltered little port. Corsica's origins can be traced to this small region with its large number of pre-historic sites and castle remains that date back to the time of the lords.

Cruise North to Ajaccio. Ajaccio is the renowned birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. Set on a sunny bay surrounded by citrus groves, olive trees, and vineyards, Ajaccio is bursting with history and cultural diversity Visitors to the Cathedral where Napoleon was baptized find a beautiful Delacroix painting and time for reflection before encountering a huge bronze statue of Corsica’s favourite native son on the adjacent square. At the heart of the city, Place Foch is a beautiful oblong square shaded by palm trees and surrounded by small restaurants. Travellers savour a bit of respite here in view of the cooling fountain.

Cruise North to the Gulf of Porto. With its coastline bordered by red granite cliffs that plunge into a sea of intense blue, the Gulf of Porto is well deserving of its classification by UNESCO as a “world heritage site”. It is a wonderful display of nature at its finest. Visit the Gulf of Porto for water sports action or take a trip into the charming old village of Porto itself.

Head up to Calvi. Calvi has been called the Corsican port most like the French Riviera. The centre is sunny, with palm trees and quaint shops. On the south side is a long crescent of sandy beach which offers water sports, swimming, and beautiful views back toward the town and Citadel. Jet-setters have long been attracted to Calvi, among them: the Duchess of Windsor, the honey-mooning Grace and Rainier, Taylor and Burton, Rod Stewart, Valentino, Sylvester Stallone, and Bruce Willis.

Enjoy Calvi before taking a night cruise to St Tropez.

St Tropez. spend the day on famous Pampelonne Beach, spend the day shopping or enjoy one of the chic beach clubs such as Club 55, in the Bay of St Tropez .

Cruise to the Isle de Porquerolles – the islands off Hyeres. Anchor off a quiet, sandy beach for lunch and a snorkel before continuing on to tiny Port Cros in the midst of a nature reserve. This is a beautiful and uniquely protected part of the coast, also known as the South Pacific of the Mediterranean. Dine ashore in one of the fantastic quaint quayside fish restaurants or alfresco onboard. At anchor in Port Cros.

Cruise to the Isle de Porquerolles – the islands off Hyeres. Anchor off a quiet, sandy beach for lunch and a snorkel and a swim. This is a beautiful and uniquely protected part of the coast, also known as the South Pacific of the Mediterranean. Return to the Gulf of St Tropez – perhaps Port Grimaud or Coghlin for your overnight stay.

Try out the jet skis, kayaks or windsurfers, or head ashore to browse the boutique shops of La Croisette in Cannes. Overnight here or close to Cannes’ Carlton Hotel.

Ilse de Lerins for the day. These islands sit a few miles off Cannes. They are beautiful and have many paths through the woods and are inhabited by a monastery and a vineyard. Head back to Cannes for the evening.

Depart for Antibes and secure a berth at Captainere Quay. This is where a line-up of the best yachts in France will be. This is also an excellent opportunity to explore the old city of Antibes and the early morning flower and food markets or visit the small Picasso Museum. You can also drive out to Cap D'Antibe and have a drink or lunch at the famous Eden Roc Hotel. A noteworthy side trip is a visit to Saint Paul De Vence. It is another medieval city that is full of artisan shops and quaint cafés. The countryside is also quite lovely.

Villefranche. The coastline between the seaside villages of Villefranche, Beaulieu and Cap-Ferrat is superb and well worth stopping. Take lunch ashore in the beautiful Hotel du Cap-Ferrat. The Hotel du Cap offers spectacular views along the coast and equally fantastic food, wine and service to match.

Monaco. Depart after a leisurely breakfast move onto Monaco for the evening where endless entertainment opportunities await you. Enjoy dinner onboard before heading out to the Monte Carlo Casino or the famous Jimmy’s open air bar or perhaps dine ashore with a spectacular evening at the famous Louis XV. Be prepared for absolute culinary grandeur. Berth in Monaco or Fontvieille Port if possible.
