This Rule-Breaking 50-Foot Yacht Is What Would Happen if Salvador Dalí Designed a Boat

And while this large center console has the look of a big dayboat—with its primary focus on the open top deck—below is very large cabin with multiple staterooms and accommodations for six. Perhaps the coolest rule-breaker is the spacious, air-conditioned salon beneath the cockpit. There is seating on three sides for movie nights, or aperitifs out of the sun. But after hours, the center ottoman slides back and transforms into a double bed to turn the social area into a comfortable ensuite guest cabin.

DeAntonio Yachts new flagship D50 is a reimagined yacht in its category with a foredeck pool, outboard power and large interior space.

But the 50 is no surprise. Barcelona-based De Antonio Yachts has been breaking the rules since it was founded back in 2010 by Marc De Antonio and Stanislas Chmielewski. From the company’s first design, a playful 23-foot open runabout, it now turns out a lineup that includes 28-, 36-, 42-, and 46-foot models. Enter the D50 Open, along with the extended hardtop D50 Coupe, and these different takes on the flagship give the mid-range yacht class a totally fresh perspective.

On the water, the D50 Open continues its quirky style. Towering, near-vertical hull sides; upright, plumb bow; chopped-off stern. But the combination works.

The glass-sided bow pool is probably its quirkiest feature. When the boat is on the move, owners can throw in cushions to create a sun-lounging space. But as soon as the anchor drops, it gets filled with saltwater as a soaking pool, and with the optional heater, functions as a hot tub. Or the kids will love it as splash pool, too. The point is that De Antonio imagined the space in a new, highly creative way.

DeAntonio Yachts new flagship D50 is a reimagined yacht in its category with a foredeck pool, outboard power and large interior space.

While there’s space for a small tender or Jet Ski on the hydraulically lowering rear swim platform, De Antonio prefers a clutter-free space. So they designed a space where the sunpad backrests tilt up and reveal one of the funkiest tender garages ever. The space itself is narrow and deep, allowing a lightweight RIB to be slotted in on its side. Since the tender was designed for an electric Torqeedo outboard, there’s also space here to stow one, and an electric socket for recharging.

At the push of a button, the oversized rear sunpad rises up to reveal the hidden engine bay. Standard power on the D50 Open are four Mercury Verado 300 V8s totaling 1,200 horsepower. There’s also the option of twin 600-hp Verado V12s. Both push the boat to a 52mph top speed.

Opting for the quad Verado 400 set-up delivers the strongest top end. The design team created a twin-stepped hull to channel air under the boat for added lift while softening the ride. Top speed is an impressive 58mph for a boat like this.

Arguably the biggest surprise and delight on the D50 Open are the below-decks accommodations. De Antonio sets itself apart by offering customizable layouts, with two or three cabins, one or two heads, and even a crew cabin. In the bow is the master with a walkaround double bed, hull windows to let in light, and an en-suite head. And for my holiday wish list, the modular cabin mentioned above, with its big, central ottoman that converts into a bed, is a must.

Pricing for the D50 Open starts at $985,000, with U.S. sales handled by Nautical Ventures in Fort Lauderdale—which just received its first D50 in time for the holidays.

De Antonio D36 Open, comfortable and fun

de antonio yacht review

The Open D36 has a stable and safe hull, even in moderate seas and is also agile and easy to helm. The volumes above and below decks are enough to allow comfortable cruising for four people

by Niccolò Volpati

Designed without compromise or obligation to take a particular approach. The D36 Open from De Antonio is the boat that wants it all : significant open areas, a good amount of space below decks, performance, design and ease of handling. Going on board we were able to say that all of these characteristics go well together. The mix is the right one. Let me start with the feeling at the helm. The sea in the Gulf of Genoa was fairly tough: the waves were at least a metre and a half high, perfect conditions to test a hull.

There were three 300 hp Mercury outboards on the transom, the largest amount of power that could be installed . Between 4000 and 4500 rpm, it doesn’t take much to the helm. Even though the sea was fairly rough, the D36 doesn’t seem to suffer and the performance it delivers is very respectable. It does between 25 and 35 knots, with overall fuel consumption of between 90 and 150 litres per hour. It would be logical to assume that a boat that is just over ten metres long would need hard work and attention when faced with waves of a metre and a half. We didn’t find that, and it was fun to the helm. All you have to do is keep your hand on the throttle to deliver the right amount of power and prevent yourself from getting slammed on the waves.

D36 Open

It is a seafaring boat, in terms of performance and comfort while helming. The bridge station is comfortable and well-protected. The interiors are very comfortable for two people, and enough for a family of four. That is saying a lot for a ten-metre boat.

The hull has two steps and even with a following sea, it behaved exceptionally . It always kept on course and didn’t let itself be affected by the conditions and, at the same time, it turned tightly and proved very agile and easy to helm. The configuration with two engines is perfect and the electronic steering gear integrated with the Mercury Verado V8s also helps.

It is pleasant to steer, not just because of what is below the waterlines . The steering position is very well protected by the windscreen and visibility is never obstructed. That is good, given that the top speed of the D36 is over forty knots. There is no lens effect, no angles that can prove annoying, and no supports or frames that block the view. The functionality of the windscreen is often compromised on open-plan boats or walkarounds in favour of design. But not in this case. And what is more, De Antonio has opted to not connect it to the structure which supports the soft top, leaving a larger area that can be cooled by the air, which is perfect for a boat that is used in the Mediterranean.

D36 Open

In terms of cruising speed, I think that at 25 knots you get a lot of advantages: a snapshot of fuel consumption gives just 87 litres per hour for both outboards, which translates to 3.3 litres per mile . And given that the fuel tank holds 850 litres, that gives a range of 257 nautical miles. The minimum planning speed is at less than 15 knots, and 3,300 rpm. The top speed I had to make do with (given the sea conditions) came at 5,500 rpm when the GPS device showed 40.5 knots. But I was still 500 rpm short of what the two Verados could have generated, and so with calmer water, the D36 would probably have got to around 45 knots. The deck set-up reflects the De Antonio tradition, albeit with a few new developments. The flat fenders, which we had become used to seeing hanging from the sides, can be removed. To stow them there is specially-designed housing on the sides of the boat. It is a functional solution that doesn’t affect the typical design of boats from the yard.

de antonio yacht review

The side decks are wide, comfortable and safe. The grab handles are also set within the sides, and cannot be seen from the exterior, but are always easy to get at . There are three seats for the skipper and mate, with wraparound seats that give a good feeling of protection. The soft top is held up by a solid and robust structure which doesn’t generate any vibration. There are a lot of bitts, from deep in the bows right to the transom, and all of them are a very good size. There are two sun pads: the “traditional” one in the stern which hides the outboard engines, and one in the bow over the deckhouse.

de antonio yacht review

There is a lot of surface area available, without sacrificing the walkways and overall profile. The design is subordinated to the functionality and seafaring nature of the boat.

de antonio yacht review

The cockpit set up is classic with the kitchen unit/bar aft of the seats for the skipper and mate, and a U-shaped sofa with an extendible table . Despite all of this abundance, and the fact that the D36 has a length overall of just over ten metres, you can always get around easily on board. Not just from one end of the boat to the other, but also from one side to the other.

The designers have paid the required amount of attention to the walkways, and also to the ergonomics of the bridge . Below decks, there are no bulkheads to break up the spaces. The bow area is a dinette that can be transformed into a double room, with a full two metres headroom at the entrance. Going aft, and beneath the cockpit floor, there is a second room that can be fitted up with three berths. The bathroom is big enough, even though it doesn’t have a separate shower cubicle. So, to conclude it is an open-deck walkaround, perfect for the Mediterranean, with sufficient space to provide a short or medium-range cruise for a family.

D36 Open

The feeling when underway is excellent, even with 1.5-metre waves, and that is not just because of the excellent waterlines, but also because of the protection of the windscreen and the ergonomics of the bridge.

de antonio yacht review

Engine data The three Verado V8s each developing 300 horsepower is the most powerful combination that can be fitted, and performance is in line with that: acceleration, speed, but also good fuel consumption figures. You can also opt for two engines of 400 hp.

De Antonio 42 Open Review: Mediterranean Appeal

de antonio yacht review

De Antonio 42 Open is a head turner, whose turquoise-clad seating immediately calls to mind the realm it was designed for, inviting you to a fast cruising Mediterranean trip or a lazy stroll through the stylish harbors of the Italian or French Riviera

It’s early June and it’s still warm, not hot; the pandemic has been dampened, the waters of Trogir are winking at us in the sun, as north-western winds are caressing them into a silky crinkle. And we have a trendy De Antonio 42 Open to test. Paradise. Since 2012, this Barcelona-based brand have set themselves apart from the endless competition in their segment (28 to 50 ft) with unique solutions, high quality product now available in 15 countries, and designer touches.

De Antonio 42 Open design

We stepped aboard their latest model from the aft, using the hydraulic platform which hides from the view the three 300-hp Mercury Verado Penta, installed in the most unusual way: in an opening under the cockpit sun bed. This solution allowed the designers to give the 42 more height and width, and the engines to remain almost invisible from outside. Right next to the opening, there’s a storage unit for a Torqeedo outboard and other water toys , as well as a tender , just waiting to be hoisted onto water by a mechanical lift.

Those and similar smart solutions have made possible for the 42 to have a walkaround deck with plenty of free space. The deck is visually and functionally divided into three areas – the large modular U-shaped sofa and two foldable tables; the command post with easily accessible navigation systems controls and an adjacent galley with two refrigerators; and the bow lounge, with three comfortable day beds and a small sofa.

Smart and functional solutions

The tall and deep V-profile bow and the stepped hull are optimized for the selected engines, and give De Antonio 42 Open the power to conquer all types of waves, in addition to looking great even with dropped anchor. The skipper enjoys excellent visibility and the command post comfortably seats for, but those taller than 6’6’’ should mind their head, as the hard top is true to its name.

The hard top is also retractable and can protect half of the aft sun bed, while the command post is protected from sun rays and elements by a tinted curved windshield. Below deck, the height is still commendable, even in the starboard day head. To the port, there is another command console and below it, an additional retractable desk.

The interior is inviting, light, furnished in light artificial wood and white fabrics. The color scheme is very pleasing and it’s obvious the designers gave it a lot of thought, while the finish is again excellent. Details like sliding doors or magnetic wardrobe doors give the interior a little extra sophistication.

In the bow, there is a double bed of decent size for a boat this type, while the lounge is the only space with low ceiling, but can be forgiven for its smart layout and plenty of natural light. De Antonio 42 Open has large rectangular windows that serve the lounge, turning the space into a cozy corner great for watching TV or just taking a break.

Luxury yacht Princess V65 Spice of Life II cruising

Spice of Life II

Mighty Princess awaits your majesty for the perfect charter vacation in Croatia. The 22-meter yacht designed by Bernard Olesinski features three cabins and contemporary styled interiors naturally opening to her comfortable exterior spaces and sporty look. She is given good performances enabling you to spend a dynamic and eventful vacation.

De Antonio 42 Open top speed

In navigation, De Antonio 42 Open is nimble and quick: maneuvering in the port almost didn’t require any thruster work, we’ve achieved planning at 3000 rpm, and found the steering wheel equally responsive at all regimes. The stepped hull shone brightest at 30 knots of speed, especially in turns.

We had to trim the engines a bit executing high-speed turns (at 5100 rpm), but for the most part, all we had to do was to hold the steering wheel. Fast, fun and ready to please, De Antonio 42 Open reaches top speed in about 40 seconds. What more can one want this summer, when we are finally free to enjoy everything smart and skilled people like De Antonio designers have created for our entertainment?

De Antonio D32 first look: Spanish yard unveils ‘revolutionary’ day cruiser

  • Top stories

Award-winning Spanish builder, De Antonio Yachts, has extended its range of day cruisers by unveiling the new D32 Open at the Barcelona Boat Show.

The new De Antonio D32 Open is designed to “revolutionise the sub-10m segment” by combining high-end day boating and overnighting abilities on a relatively compact platform.

Of course, this modern hybrid concept is nothing new to De Antonio Yachts . After all, they’ve already applied it to outstanding effect on the multi-award-winning De Antonio D36 Open .

But while that larger 11m boat stood out for the scale and intelligence of its deck layouts, it’s good to see that the smaller De Antonio D32 has been able to apply a lot of the same design solutions.

Like the rest of the range, the D32 covers up its outboard engines beneath a raised sunpad that backs onto a full-sized swim platform.

At a stroke, that enables De Antonio to improve security, limit noise and increase the scale and practicality of the boat’s aft end.

De Antonio D32 aerial view

The D32 uses De Antonio’s trademark ‘hidden’ outboard engines

To compensate for the extra aft weight of that inboard-style stern structure, De Antonio has also used its trademark cat-style hull extensions on either side of the outboards.

These are designed to create extra aft buoyancy, dropping the nose and adding some useful extra stability to help mitigate the impact of beam winds and uneven loads.

De Antonio D32 cockpit layout

The central cockpit arrangement follows a tried and tested formula for De Antonio Yachts

Big day spaces

This clever stern solution also substantially increases the scale of the day spaces. The big raised aft sunpad leads onto a pair of large benches that face each other across a convertible dining table.

Ahead of this, a transverse wet bar operates as the base for three forward-facing helm seats. There’s also a very generous sunbed up in the bow – and these three independent socialising zones are each connected by a set of very practical walkaround decks.

de antonio yacht review

The open-plan bow lounge can be converted into a double berth with remarkable ease

Two-cabin layout

Another key element of the new boat is the space on the lower deck. De Antonio has again used vertical hull sides and a plumb bow to create remarkable volume and i t has made the very most of that with bright fabrics, an open-plan layout and convertible furniture.

The basic arrangement incorporates two cabins – one forward and one aft – separated by a central atrium with a starboard bathroom.

Both zones provide bright and spacious beds but in classical De Antonio style, they can each be used as sheltered lower deck lounges when the weather forces your guests below.

NFL Could Face Backlash Over Brazil Game

Michael canelo | sep 7, 2024.

  • Las Vegas Raiders

The NFL's Friday night game between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles went on as scheduled. This was a big game for the NFL, as it was being played in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the first time that the league had taken its product to the county.

In the days leading up to the game, there were many concerns about the safety and well-being of players, staff, personnel, fans and anyone involved in travel to Brazil for this game. Players were told to stay in their hotel rooms during the trip, and many players from the teams would not let their family travel for this game.

Our Hondo S. Carpenter Sr. and Attorney Jonathan Schopp discussed backlash issues the NFL could face from the game in Brazil on a recent episode of the  "Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast."

"I have not seen this, but evidently, players are being told, stay in your hotel room," Carpenter said. "Players are telling their families, do not come to the game. There is a lot of security concerns. And as he [NFL player] began talking to me, why are we going someplace where we are all in this danger that people do not even want their family even going there."

"They may be opening themselves to a great potential liability," Schopp said. "What you are seeing is trying to protect and really insulate for that so advice and or requirements or demands to stay in a hotel and only stay in certain areas. Where there is security does not surprise me. This is a first impression as far as the NFL going all the way down to Brazil. It is a big country. There are a lot of high vauled people. On all of these teams obviously. It does not surprise me that there is some trepidation. We saw some issues in Brazil when the olympics where there if you remember. There was a Zika Virus going there. And a lot of professional golfers who were some of the higher profiles for that event did not even go. ... So, here you have the NFL with the international push. It is a strange trip again. One I think the Eagles feel a little bit slighted. They been asked to make. Now you are seeing it get a little complicated by your family cannot come or they should not go. ... The fcous here for the NFL is clear, they want a clean game to go off, ideally it is entertaining and there is no issues with the peacock stream. If that happens it is a win for the NFL."
