Cannes Yachting Festival 2024: Everything you need to know

The Cannes Yachting Festival is due to return from 10-15 September 2024.

Founded in 1977, the Cannes boat show takes place in the beautiful French city every September and showcases almost 600 boats, including motor yachts, superyachts , catamarans, tenders and sailing yachts.

The in-water show in the Bay of Cannes takes place in two of the city’s ports, the Vieux Port and Port Pierre Canto.

What’s new at the Cannes Yachting Festival?

This year is the 47th edition, promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a new marina and nearly 700 boats on display.

Port Canto is the second port in Cannes. This section of the show has long been the home of Sailing Yachts at the show.

But 2024 will see Port Canto also used to accommodate the new marina dedicated to motor yachts around the 12-13m mark.

How to get to the Cannes Yachting Festival

From Nice airport you can get a shuttle bus direct to Cannes, or buses 200 and 210. If you prefer taking a cab, a taxi will cost from around €55, depending on the number of passengers.

If money is no object and you want to travel in style, then book a helicopter with Azur Hélicoptère, which will take you from Nice to Cannes in around seven minutes and for just over €500.

Where to stay during the Cannes Yachting Festival

Cannes has a large selection of different types of accommodation. From luxurious five-star hotels to more affordable apartments, there is something to suit every budget. Just make sure you book in advance as the city gets very busy during the boat show.

Showstopping Premieres

Sunreef Yachts made a splash with the premiere of the 100 Sunreef Power 2.0 and the electric 60 Sunreef Power Eco in the Vieux Port. Both models garnered immense interest from attendees, showcasing Sunreef’s commitment to innovation and luxury. Additionally, the company showcased three luxurious sail catamarans in the Port Canto, further solidifying its position as a leader in the yachting industry.

Francis Lapp – Personality of the Year

Sunreef Yachts’ success extended beyond the venue of the festival. On September 14, the company received prestigious industry awards at the World Yachts Trophies. Founder and President Francis Lapp was honored as Personality of the Year for his pioneering contributions to the yachting industry. The 60 Sunreef Power Eco also claimed the title of Best Electric Catamaran . The awards ceremony, held on the beach of the Carlton in Cannes, brought together the industry’s most influential figures.

Press Conference and Future Plans

The Cannes Yachting Festival provided the perfect platform for Sunreef Yachts to host a press conference aboard the 100 Sunreef Power 2.0. The company unveiled the first renders of the ULTIMA 111 – a futuristic superyacht created in collaboration with Phathom Studio.

Cannes Yachting Festival 2022 to be held from 6th to 11th September

Cannes Yachting Festival reopens from 6 to 11 September to present, as has been customary for the past 45 years, the best of the international offer of motor yachts and sailing boats, monohull or multihull. The inaugural event of the boating season and Europe’s largest in-water show, the Cannes Yachting Festival will be staged from the Vieux Port to Port Canto, i.e. from one end to the other of the famous Croisette in the French yachting capital.

Launched in 1977, the Cannes Yachting Festival has over time become an unmissable appointment for luxury yachting, reaching staggering numbers: last year there were 620 yachts present and almost 600 exhibitors, in an eclectic selection that attracted to the French coastal resort the main yachting players from all over the world, who gathered to open the boating season and display their novelties and world premières.

This year too, our editorial staff will be present at the show to report on it in every detail through articles, interviews, photos, videos and sea trials.

The new visual identity of the Cannes Yachting Festival 2022

Sylvie Ernoult , director of Cannes Yachting Festival , said, “We are delighted to unveil our new image and to have successfully illustrated both the countless assets of the Yachting Festival and the atmosphere of the show, which I feel is nothing short of magical. The exhibitors and visitors here alongside us last year could sense this special atmosphere as much as we could. Despite a difficult public health context, we all took real pleasure in coming together and seeing boats ‘in the flesh’ rather than online! 2021 saw record visitor numbers, with over 54,000 visitors coming to admire 110 new boats between 10 and 35 metres (32 and 114 feet) in the Sailing Area, over 480 motor boats between 5 and 45 metres (16 and 147 feet) in the Vieux Port, and of course the second-hand boats over 22 metres (72 feet) exhibited in-water in the Yacht Brokerage Area. They were also able to discover the new Innovation Area for the ‘smart’ start-ups of the nautical sector, as well as over 50 exhibitors presenting an environmentally friendly concept with the new ‘Green Route’.Our goal for 2022 is to both expand the offer of the show and to give greater visibility to eco-friendly approaches, new technologies and luxury in the noblest possible way.”

The 44th annual St. Petersburg Power & Sailboat Show, the largest boat show on the Gulf Coast, is set to sail into the Duke Energy Center for the Arts Mahaffey Theater Yacht Basin and Albert Whitted Park in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The show will feature an impressive selection of powerboats and sailboats in water and on land, including a 40,000-square-foot clearspan tent housing all types of marine gear.

Also, don’t forget to squeeze in time for seminars on various topics including boat maintenance, fishing, and the cruising lifestyle. For kids, look for programs that will be posted on the show site as the date nears.

The 21st Annual Festivals of Speed at St. Petersburg Presented by PORSCHE CLEARWATER will take place downtown in beautiful Vinoy Park overlooking the bay. This luxury lifestyle Motorsports display will showcase over 250+ exotic, classic, muscle cars, motorcycles & luxury brands. The Festivals of Speed show field has become known for its unique diversity, showcasing both vintage and contemporary vehicles of all makes and models placed for display among the splendor that is Vinoy Park. Offshore race boats, antique boats, and other unique watercraft are encouraged to display. The park overlooks the water with magnificent views of the bay and vibrant downtown.

Guests will experience automotive designs by Porsche, Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, BMW, Mercedes, McLaren and more. Onsite cafes serve fine wines and festive cocktails with exciting culinary offerings. Guests can also enjoy a cigar lounge, great music, awards presentation, and more.

“The numbers suggest that the newcomers who came during Covid, who are trending younger, are not transient,” Andrea Razeto, president of I Saloni Nautici, the event organizer, told Robb Report.

But the real importance of Genoa, at least to most showgoers, were the 30 new Italian premieres, ranging from rigid-hulled inflatables to superyachts. Some were brand flagships, others new models in existing families, and even more showed innovative designs that are new to yachting.

Apreamare’s 88 Maestro flagship made its global debut, a change in direction for a shipyard known for its rounded-stern “gozzo” yachts from 35 to 48 feet, based on a traditional Italian fishing vessel.  

“This navetta style was custom made for an owner of one of our smaller boats,” Apreamare’s marketing manager, Corrado Del Fonti, told Robb Report during a tour. “The owners are a couple with no children, so they designed it for themselves so they could live aboard for months.”

The sense of open space also defined the rest of the yacht, from the upper flybridge with its outdoor kitchen, dining table, and rear seating to the lower foredeck, also with seating and a table. Fit and finish across the 88-footer was excellent, showing that Apreamare’s boatbuilding abilities with smaller vessels could transfer to a larger yacht.

Perhaps the most impressive feature was the one most boaters never see—the engine room, which measures 430 square feet and holds twin 2000 MAN diesels. The space looked massive compared to most engine rooms in this size range. “Again, the owners wanted space that will allow the engine to be easily repaired when something inevitably breaks,” said Del Fonti. “They are being very practical about it.” The price for the vessel is about $9.1 million.

Another innovative design making its Italian premiere was Azimut ’s new Seadeck 7 , with the world’s first Volvo-Penta hybrid electric-diesel propulsion. The 71-footer was designed to be a truly sustainable boat—without greenwashing—with a hull, superstructure, and engine that combines to produce 40 percent fewer emissions than another boat its size.

“It was also born to have a different style of livability on board,” says Edoardo Giudice, from Azimut’s Product Intelligence department. His team has been working on the Seadeck 7 concept for several years. “We wanted it to be gentle on the sea, with an area we call the ‘Fun Island’ that is an open, split-level design that goes down to the water.” The space includes a barbecue near the water, a custom-designed hammock that hangs over a side panel when it’s folded down, and a “transformer” step at the rear that drops into the water for easy access.

But the real eco-differentiator on this boat is the hybrid propulsion. Marine engine maker Volvo Penta has been working on a hybrid diesel-electric version for its IPS system for four years, and it began planning the Seadeck 7 concept with Azimut two years ago. “In full electric, you can get 11 knots of speed for 11 miles, and if you go down to 7 knots, the range goes to 32 nautical miles,” says Giudice. “The boat can also stay in hotel mode for up to eight hours overnight.”

Sanlorenzo ’s new SP92 is also a new style of cruiser, the smaller sistership to the SP110 , which was launched two years ago to great acclaim.

“You can see the family DNA in the exterior,” says Sanlorenzo’s Tilli Antonelli, who spearheaded both SP yachts with Zuccon International and interior designer Piero Lissoni. “But the interior is different. We created an open space to have multiple possible layouts.”

The interior, like the SP110, is a paradigm shift for yachting, with a four-level design that include the large open salon on the main deck, a forward area on the deck below with three staterooms, a rear area on another lower deck that can serve as a salon or extra bedroom, and the invisible flybridge—which has been designed to look seamless with the rest of the hull.

Ferretti Yachts also launched the Infynito 80. Like its larger sistership, the Infynito 90 , which premiered a year ago, the new 80 is about simple design and open space, putting a premium on the outdoors. The four-stateroom, 80-footer has a large open salon, cockpit, and flybridge.

But the true innovation here is the foredeck . It’s open to the wind but has a slatted frame above it for both sun protection and protection at the bow. This clever design also won a Robb Report Best of the Best Award earlier this year, with editors praising the protection it provides without being fully enclosed.

Genoa also tends to be the Italian show where ideas are discussed and politicians meet industry leaders to discuss common goals. This year’s event was no different, with panels doing deep dives into sustainability across the yachting sector and looking at how marine tourism can be a driving force for cleaning up the ocean.

The show’s infrastructure also continues to grow and modernize each year, with the completion of the new Palasport stadium, waterfront condos, and docks. The refresh of what was a dowdy waterfront area into a high-cost residential section is called the Waterfront di Levante project. It has been a boon for the show: Total space for this year’s event grew to nearly 237,000 square feet between the dock and exhibit halls, up 54,000 from 2023. “This show has always been the way we got our ‘Made in Italy’ yacht brands out into the world,” says Razeto, adding that it will continue to grow next year.
