Damen Yachting launches Five Oceans

The second yacht support 53 has hit the water at damen yachting's antalya shipyard….

The 53m Five Oceans (YS5302) is the lastest in Damen Yachting's Yacht Support 53 range. It has naval architecture, interior and exterior design from Damen Yachting and is designed to carry eight guests and 10 crew. This is the second hull in the series, with the first, Bad Company Support , launched in 2022.

“You can sleep on it, fly off of it and move it. For us the Yacht Support is a platform that enables us to do all the incredible things we wanted to do,” comments Tommy Allen, Owner YS53 Five Oceans . For the full interview with Mr Allen, please see the Damen Yachting YS Insider series below.

Rob Dolling, Founder & CEO at Verpeka Dolling Superyachts, the Monaco-based yacht sales and charter company, assisted the Owner with the sale, project managed the build on the Owner’s side and will manage the vessel’s onward operation, comments, “This new, next generation Yacht Support platform is very well thought out and engineered, presenting the perfect platform for the ambitious global plans the Owner has for Five Oceans . All our requests and changes, some admittedly quite elaborate, were always well received and seamlessly integrated with precision into the impressive end result.”

Motor yacht OCEANS FIVE measures 30.0m (98'5") and was constructed in Italy by the DL Yachts shipyard and launched in 2019. Guests are provided with deluxe accommodation for up to 10 guests in 5 modern staterooms, with further accommodation for up to 5 members of the crew.

The main deck aft is designed with a sunbed as an overhang along the stern, forward of which is a plush sofa and movable chairs surrounding an elegant oval dining table. Two stairways lead down to the lower deck swim platform which is perfect for sunbathing as well as accessing the tenders or the water. A port stairway leads to the flybridge aft, and side walkways past the main salon connect with the foredeck, where a sofa that doubles as a sunbed surrounds a drinks table on three sides, creating a casual place to drink, dine and relax away from the busy social hub.

The flybridge is replete with sunbathing space along the stern, and the sunbed curves for an asymmetrical shape that lets a circular seat/covered coffee table nestle into the side. To starboard the sunbed joins into a large circular Jacuzzi and amidships there is an alfresco dining setting that makes use of seating curving along the starboard side to join the elongated oval table and additional movable chairs. A wet bar is placed opposite to conveniently serve all guests dispersed throughout this space, and forward the helm controls are to starboard, with a stairway to port down into the interior.

The gorgeous interiors from Studio a.s.h manipulate light using metallic textures and uneven surfaces, such as the fish scale and bubble wallpapers. White parquet is used for the flooring, and the lounge features pearl mosaics by Sicis, a brass lacquer ceiling sculpture and a set of rugs with a sea urchin pattern.

The lower deck layout place the guest accommodation amidships with the crew accommodation forward and the engine room and tender garage aft.

The Master suite is situated on the main deck forward, and amidships is the port-side galley and starboard-side main foyer, where stairs lead down to them lower deck accommodation and up to the raised pilothouse, through which there is access to the flybridge.

OCEANS FIVE Specifications

The formal dining area and salon are combined into one large open-plan social space, with the formal dining area placed forward at a 45 degree angle to seat all 10 guests and make the most of the light through the large windows running the length of the room. The tranquil lounge places two sofas around a coffee table to port, while the starboard side of the room has an armchair in the forward corner for reading in the warm sunlight, and aft a pop-up TV is concealed in the cabinetry.

Yacht Accommodation

The accommodation sleeps a maximum of 10 guests across 5 en-suite cabins: 1 Master suite, 2 VIP staterooms and 2 twin cabins convertible to doubles. ~ The master suite is placed on the main deck forward and comes furnished with a king-sized bed with a widescreen TV opposite, glass sliding doors out to the side decks on both sides, aft to the port office with walk-in-wardrobe and the entrance to the en-suite bathroom. The en-suite bathroom provides two sinks, a toilet and a shower. ~ The lower deck places the VIP staterooms to port and starboard aft of amidships. Both have a queen-sized bed and a widescreen TV on the adjacent wall, a large wardrobe and an aft en-suite bathroom providing a sink, toilet and shower. ~ The twin cabins convertible to doubles are forward of the VIP staterooms and have the same amenities on a slightly smaller scale. ~ The crew of 5 will ensure that everyone on board receives stellar service wherever they cruise.

The GX42 is the newest brand to break into the superyacht category, launched at this year's Monaco ... [+] Yacht Show. This is the Coupé version, featuring a roof covered in gleaming solar panels that slide apart to reveal a sunning and Jacuzzi area.

The unveiling of a new superyacht brand doesn't come along very often, but when it does it is big news, particularly when it is on a global stage like the Monaco Yacht Show. The new superyacht brand, GX Superyachts , is the "brainchild" of the principals of Greenline Yachts , known for production of efficient hybrid yachts up to 58 feet. Greenline, headquartered in Begunje, Slovenia, began building yachts over 15 years ago, employing smart hull design, solar charging, and hybrid propulsion.

About The Yachts

GX Superyachts offers a custom lineup of yachts ranging from 78-164 feet (24-56 meters) constructed of aluminum, with priorities on quality, innovation, and respect for the planet. At the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show, a 32-foot (9.9-meter) all electric Greenline yacht found His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, known for his keen appreciation of environmental practices, requesting an escort to the Monaco Yacht Club in the boat. That scenario sparked the idea to expand the Greenline models to include superyachts. The result brought GX Superyachts to fruition at this year's 2024 show.

Sustainable Capabilities And Solid Range

"Each yacht in our GX Superyacht range is equipped with our innovative hybrid propulsion system, allowing for both efficient electric cruising and powerful diesel performance when needed," Luca Raumland, Chief Commercial Officer, commented. He further stated that at 6 knots in electric mode, these yachts have a 100 nautical mile range, extending to 11,571 nautical miles at 6 knots. The yachts can make trans-Atlantic crossings at 12 knots.

Comparisons to conventional yachts show that the GX range will emit less than 40 percent in comparable carbon emissions. Designed with a large solar array and lithium battery bank, the yacht can sit silently at anchor for over 48 hours, running full hotel systems including air conditioning without requiring help from a generator. That also translates to noiseless, vibration-free, odor-free operation that finds increasing appeal with superyacht owners.

GX42 In Build

Already well underway with the keel laying ceremony on June 1, 2024, the first GX 42 will go to a customer that came through the Greenline network. Specializing in composite construction up to 78 feet (24 meters) in the Slovenian shipyard, the GX team needed to select a new build partner experienced in building larger aluminum yachts. They signed with SES Yachts in Tuzla, Türkiye, a custom aluminum yacht expert.

According to Elif Yildirim, Managing Partner of SES, "We embrace custom and semi-custom projects, and the new GX Superyachts range plays perfectly to the skills we have in house." Yildirim also emphasized the importance of being a family-owned business focused on sustainability, acknowledging that collaboration has been very smooth on this first build, looking toward a future with GX and many more yachts.

The Importance of Design

The GX Superyachts GX42 RPH has an expansive aft beach club deck, designed by Marco Casali of Too ... [+] Design.

Described as "achingly sleek exterior lines," the GX Superyachts sport lines from Marco Casali, displaying an efficient, low-profile superstructure allowing large interior volume. Two variations of the model, the Coupé and the RPH, are available.

The Coupé sports a long, curved superstructure. The roof is covered in gleaming solar panels which slide apart to reveal a hidden sun deck with jacuzzi and bar. The RPH version is designed with a large flybridge in clean, modern aesthetics, with 353 GT volume. Both versions offer guests an expansive beach club with fold-down wings and hydraulic step platform.

For the interiors, Casali continues the chic simplicity of the exteriors, styling the first GX42 with impressive bath fixtures from Antonio Lupi and porcelainware from Dornbracht. Loose furnishings from Poltrona Frau and Rugiano are complemented by Foglizzo leathers and Cadorin natural wood flooring.

Casali, founder of Too Design, commented, "Our studio has long worked with Greenline Yachts, so we understood exactly what the new GX Superyachts brief required. "I am proud of the way we have reinterpreted the timeless looks of the smaller yachts to give soul and purpose to the lines of the new superyachts."

Technical Talent

Underwater hull lines maximizing stability and speed potential from Francesco Rogantin of NAMES Studio proves an important element in achieving the long range of the GX Superyachts with respectable speed. David Moot spent about two decades longing for an oceanfront home on Cape Cod.

This year, he’ll be spending the holidays at his dream house. Moot, 59, bought a three-bedroom, two-bathroom bungalow with sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean for just under $400,000 late last year, he told The Washington Post.

The catch? It might crumble off the cliff soon.

Erosion, exacerbated by the climate crisis, is reshaping the country’s coasts. Chunks of road and pieces of patios are falling into the Pacific along California’s western edge. Landslides often block the state’s famous coastal route, Highway 1, and a major coastal railroad track is frequently closed as erosion weakens the ground beneath it. In North Carolina, 10 houses have fallen into the Atlantic since 2020 in an eroding stretch of the Outer Banks, The Post reported , including three in the last week. The area has seen some of the most rapid rates of erosion and sea level rise on the East Coast. At least a dozen more homes there are in danger of collapse.

Millions of acres of U.S. land and hundreds of thousands of homes and offices are in jeopardy in coming years, The Post has reported . Moot’s new property is among them: Experts say it could fall into the ocean within 10 years.

But where most see risk, Moot saw opportunity.

“The prices were always far beyond my reach. So this particular house came into my price range due to the erosion issue. So I said, well, let me see what I can do, if I can make it happen,” Moot said. “Life’s too short. People think I’m crazy. Well, I could walk out of the door tomorrow and get hit by a car.”

Moot, a Pittsburgh resident, first visited Cape Cod about 20 years ago, he said. He fell in love immediately.

“The ocean, the breezes that you get. Sunny days, beautiful sunrises and sunsets,” Moot mused. “The sand, the beaches. There’s just so much to take in that it’s never a dull moment.”

He casually searched for oceanfront homes, scouring small towns and checking on property listings. The dream remained unattainable until he saw a home, built in Eastham, Mass., in 1965, listed for $395,000. Two years ago, that same home was listed for about $1.2 million, he said.

“It’s the view that sold me more than the house,” he said. “Almost every room faces the ocean so you can’t miss the view.”

Sellers immediately informed Moot of the erosion problem, and the risk that the home may not be inhabitable for very long. He decided to take on the house, and the erosion that came with it, he said.

“I’m going to try and do some things to help slow the process,” he said, including consulting experts and planting beach grass along the edge of the cliff. “The beach grass has long roots and hopefully it will stabilize and keep that from eroding quicker.”

He plans to remove the part of his home nearest to the cliff’s edge, which will grant more footage between the edge of the house and the cliff. Maybe, with the right investments, the home’s viability can stretch to another 20 years, he said.

But the clock is ticking. Cape Cod’s coastline is eroding by an average of three feet a year, according to Stephen Leatherman, an earth and environment professor at Florida International University who has studied the Cape Cod coast with the National Park Service.

“It could only be a few years before that house is in danger of falling over the cliff,” Leatherman said. “Or it could be more. But its drop is imminent.”

The home is unlikely to remain standing beyond 10 years, he said, adding that beach grass won’t be sufficient to steady an eroding cliff. Ultimately, Leatherman said, any attempts to slow the erosion are only temporary. A few bad winter storms, which cause rougher waves, would quicken the cliff’s erosion.

“This guy is taking a big risk, but of course he got a big discount,” Leatherman said. “It’s like gambling. You’re not sure how the dice is going to roll. He is literally living on the edge.”

“I hope he can enjoy it,” he added.

Moot is certain that he will.

“I don’t look at it as a scary thing. It’s Mother Nature and I’m trying to work with Mother Nature, not against it,” he said. “I’m going to just enjoy it and share it with as many people as I can.”

That includes opening up the home to people with terminal illnesses, or who are in a hospice, he added, “where people can enjoy the view at the end of their life.”

Many Massachusetts residents have probably never had the opportunity to live by the ocean, even briefly, and it would be a joy to share the blessing, Moot said.

“Sometimes I have to pinch myself — is this really true? I’m still baffled that this is happening,” he said. The erosion is not stopping, but at least for now, he has a gorgeous view.

Adeo Yacht Design reveals 52m concept with underwater lounge

Turkish studio Adeo Yacht Design has unveiled a 52-metre concept known as Ligeia. The yacht is inspired by "ocean waves" and has a clean, minimalist exterior with a teal hull and superstructure.

Ligeia aims to encourage connection with the ocean on multiple levels, including fold-out balconies on the main deck, retractable glass doors and unobstructed sightlines.

This culminates in the beach club, meant to "invoke the feel of a private beach" with its expansive swim platform, tender garage and underwater lounge, where hull windows allow guests to sit and observe from below the waves.

Accommodation is across six cabins, with renderings revealing a cool, contemporary aesthetic that makes use of dark woods, black matte wall panels and curved furniture pieces.

Other highlights include the sundeck, arranged with a pool and lounge and the foredeck, which provides a more "secluded" space with elevated seating.

Ligeia is expected to reach a maximum speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. Key numbers include a draft of 2.4 metres, a 9.4-metre beam and a volume of 600GT.

Adeo Yacht Design is known for its work on the exterior design of the 63.5-metre All About U, which is currently under construction in Antalya . The studio also has a 26-metre project currently under construction.
