Yes, this definitely does not qualify as fine dining, but same time it's probably one of the best places for eating in the city of Tallinn, at least in the summer time. I personally frequent Kalev Yacht Club quite often, mainly because I have developed a habit of meeting my brother for lunch over there. He's a busy professional and a family man, so it's actually easier for him to manage a longer lunch break during a week than to tear himself away from his family over the week-end and props to him for that. So that's where we meet. I have to admit that besides the food being consistently good and the prices very reasonable there's another reason for us to go there. See it's the only place that serves cod liver for an appetizer, at least that we know of and they prepare it just the way Mom did, when we were growing up. It's almost as good today. Well, you have to admit that sometimes our memories are like fine wine, they just get better with time. During the summer months and there's usually two, alright two and a half in Estonia, Kalev Yacht Club is a relaxing place to sit out-side and enjoy maybe not a very complicated culinary experience, but a tasty one none of the less. You'll get fresh veggies off the grill, good quality simple fish like salmon and butterfish, and I hear some people rave about the pork entrée. Can't remember what it's called right now. By the way if anybody knows what a butter fish looks like before it ends up on a plate, send me a picture or something... Oh and just try to ignore the music that they're blasting at the yacht club. That is horrible. Hey, you can't have it all.

Kalevi Jahtklubi Restaurant in Tallinn, Estonia

If you are into delicious food with a view and marine aesthetics, welcome to the Kalevi Jahtklubi restaurant, a stylish venue with a lavish menu in the port area of Tallinn, Pirita.

The sea-inspired restaurant hall is cozy, with all its wooden floors, walls, and pillars as well as panoramic windows offering a marvelous view of the river. The interior has plenty of thematic elements one shall take time to explore: wooden boats, shell compositions, paintings, and figurines.

The restaurant operates in two seasons: sailing and non-sailing. The sailing season starts on May 1, when the summer terrace opens. The menu is seasonal and changes twice a year. It features a large selection of seafood dishes: oysters, scallops, octopus, shrimp, and fish; meat and vegetable options are available too. A special lunch offer, which includes soup and a main course, is available every day.

We recommend trying: – beef tartare with griogrian bread, – octopus with sweet potato puree, – white fish fillet with red caviar and wasabi puree, – chicken with pesto, mashed potatoes, and green peas.

Serving is genuinely aesthetical, dishes are exquisitely decorated with herbs and sauces residing on intricate cutlery.

Kalevi Jahtklubi has two separate rooms available for individual events. The “Captain’s Cabin” is suitable for holding a meeting or a seminar for companies up to 14 people. The “Club Room” can accommodate up to 50 people and is a perfect match for seminars, birthday parties, corporate events, etc.

Pirita Harbour and Kalev Yacht Club

Pirita harbor is the largest in Estonia and is managed by the Kalev Yacht Club (KJK). The harbor serves as the home port for about a hundred yachts, and guest yachts are also welcome (around 80 guest spots). The harbor offers numerous services and amenities, including the Pirita Yacht Club restaurant, cafes, and sailing equipment shops.

The Kalev Yacht Club has been an important promoter of sailing and maritime culture for decades. Founded in 1948, the club is home to nearly 700 members, and the club's yachts have achieved significant results in the Olympic Games as well as other international sailing regattas. The club also hosts sailing schools, which provide opportunities for young sailing enthusiasts.

Port services are provided only to vessels with a total length of less than 24 meters (small harbor).

ACCESS TO THE MARINA FROM THE SEA

Kalevi Yacht Club Harbour is a small marina belonging to a local yacht club. We recommend making an inquiry in advance, because the little harbour easily fills up during sailing competitions. The marina has its own restaurant, which is worth a visit.

There is heavy traffic of fast ships and ferries in the Tallinn Bay, however, it does not influence the marina. Enter the harbour along Pirita leading line 136.2° – 316.2° (Iso R 2 s – Iso R 4 s; orange round concrete tower with three white balconies – white square concrete tower). There is a Fl R 3 s light beacon at the tip of the north breakwater and a Fl G 3 s light beacon at the tip of the south breakwater. Iso R 2 s marks the Pirita leading line.

The Kalev Yacht Club is on the left bank of the River Pirita near its mouth, and is one of the oldest and most respectable clubs of its kind in Estonia. The club was founded in 1947, and two years later its clubhouse was opened. From the club’s pier, visitors have a magnificent view of the ruins of St. Brigit’s convent (constructed 1407-1436 and destroyed in the Livonian War in 1577). Tallinn is rich in beautiful sights, providing unforgettable experiences and memories. At present the Kalev Yacht Club is home marina for 60 vessels. It also has a guest pier with 20 mooring places. On the first floor of the clubhouse are a restaurant and public internet facilities.

Sailing School

The Sailing School by Kalev Yacht Club is the sailing club with the longest traditions in Tallinn, Estonia, running since 1977. This is the sailing school where Estonian Olympic medalists in the last decades have made their first small steps towards great sailing careers. This is where it all begins. You have come to the right place.

We have all year round training groups and locations in  Tallinn and in Haapsalu . Classes at the school run all year round, sailing classes and regattas from May to September, athletics, swimming and theory classes from November to April. School break is in October. There are also several camps and regattas in warmer countries organised throughout the year, where young sailors can attend if desired.

In 2023 we have got 70 young sailors in the school , with ages rangeing from 6-19 years. The school is open for joining throughout the year.

We are focused on the most popular sail boat classes, such as Optimist, Zoom8, ILCA, RS Feva, RS Aero and 29er. The youngest sailors from the age of 6-12 start with Optimist, which gives them good knowledge on sailing basics, the rules and safety, in addition to valuable experience of racing at different regattas. Not to mention healthy activity in the fresh air, skills for organisation and discipline in their own life, teamwork, and most importantly –sailors as adults are often considered to be the people with the strongest personalities and most successful lives..

Maru Ehitus supports the Kalev Yacht Club Sailing School

Maru Ehitus signed a cooperation agreement with Kalev Yacht Club to acquire a dinghy, the RS Aero, to help achieve the goals of Kalev Yacht Club Sailing School. The RS Aero hull weighs only 33 kg, which is 2 kg lighter than the Optimist children’s dinghy, making the boat easy and user-friendly to transport, rig, and launch.

The boat will be named “Maru Wind.” Fair winds!
