Dubrovnik To Split Ferry/Catamaran

If you are taking a trip from Dubrovnik to Split, consider taking a catamaran ride as it offers a pleasant trip along the Croatian islands . On their way, catamaran stop shortly on the islands of Brac, Hvar, Korcula and Mljet. You may love this 8-day cruise between Split and Dubrovnik !

Catamarans are only seasonal (from April until the end of October) and are operated by 3 different ferry operators (Krilo, TP Line and Jadrolinija). Departure point is ferry port in Dubrovnik (easy to reach on foot, by bus or taxi) and departure times are 7am (Jadrolinija), 8am and 3:15pm (TP Line) and 2:45pm and 3pm (Krilo).

The sailing takes from 4h 30min to 5h 20min, depending on the company and the prices start from €45 one-way.

Where to embark catamarans.

Reaching embarkation points in both Dubrovnik and Split is easy. Split ferry port is situated a short walk from historic centre and just across main bus terminal. There are plenty of bars to sit in and grab a drink or something to eat while you wait for your catamaran. Dubrovnik ferry port is easily reachable from any other part of the city by public transport or taxi. It's also a short walk from main bus terminal.

Taking a bus ride.

Travelling between Dubrovnik and Split by bus is easy as numerous buses run on this route regularly, with more frequent service during the summer season (from May until the end of September) The average bus ride is around 4 hours, but it depends on the company you take. Both bus stations are situated close the ports and can be easily reached either on foot or by bus or taxi. The bus travel is fairly cheap when you compare to other means of transport and start from €14 one-way. Travellers can choose from numerous bus operators on this route, most operating with modern and comfortable buses.

Driving a car

Where to take the ferry from Dubrovnik to Split

Ferries to Split depart from the port of Dubrovnik , which is located in the western part of the city, in the Kantafig area of Gruž bay . The port is approximately 3 km from the historic center.

You can reach the port by car , taxi or bus (numbers 1A, 1B, 3, or 6). The closest bus station to the port is 10 min away. The bus ride from the center to the port of Dubrovnik takes around 10-15 min.

Can I travel on the ferry from Dubrovnik to Split with a car?

No, you can’t bring along your vehicle on the ferry to Split from Dubrovnik, as all ferries serving the route are fast catamarans and don't have car decks.

There are no cabins available on TP-Line , Kapetan Luka - Krilo and Jadrolinija fast vessels serving the Dubrovnik - Split route.

On Dubrovnik - Split ferries, you can travel with your pet , normally for an additional fee. Remember to include your pet in the ferry reservation.

Small pets can travel in the ferry lounges as long as they remain inside pet-transportation bags whose total weight, including the pet, does not exceed 8 kg. Larger pets will be allowed on board only if there are available kennels , which can be booked at an extra fee of around €25.

Note that dogs should wear a muzzle and a leash. Make sure you bring along your pet's health booklet and any other necessary documents.

How to get from Dubrovnik to Split?

If you are a foot passenger , there is a fast ferry catamaran that departs from April to October daily from  Dubrovnik (port of Gruz) to  Split . This is the fastest and most convenient way to travel. The alternative is the bus ride, in operation all year round. If you are driving and plan to use a car ferry, there are  no direct car ferries  between these two cities. You would need to drive along the coast and across the Peljesac Bridge all the way to Split.

4 Ways to get from Dubrovnik to Split

The distance between Dubrovnik and Split across the sea is 165 KM (or 89 nautical miles). The easiest and most pleasant way to travel is by fast passenger ferry (catamaran). Here are the details:

Dubrovnik to Split by Foot Passenger Ferry (Catamaran)

Schedules, tickets, booking.

Departures*: High season: April (June) to (September) October

Krilo (Kapetan Luka), TP Line, and  Jadrolinija  are the three companies that run passenger ferries from Dubrovnik to Split. All depart ferries from the same spot in the ferry terminal in Dubrovnik (see map here and photo below) and arrive in the Split City port. For detailed ferry timetables check with croatiaferries.com

In case of bad weather, the catamaran (fast passenger ferries) is not sailing. In such circumstances, you have to travel across the mainland, by bus or private transfer (see more details below)

Driving from Dubrovnik to Split

There are no direct car ferries connecting Dubrovnik and Split. If you are driving, you have the following options (check the map below):

• Step 1 : Drive from Dubrovnik to Ston (Doli) via roads D8 and D414 road to Brijesta
• Step 2 : Cross Peljesac Bridge to Komarna
• Step 3: Drive to Split either via E65 and D8 roads or along the coast (Jadranska magistrala)

By this shortest and fastest driving route, you can reach Split from Dubrovnik in 3.5 hours. Traveling on this route your driving time will be:

Driving tip

Due to Peljesac Bridge roadworks, for the time being, the Ston to the Prapratno crossroads section of the route (about 8 km) may take a bit longer than usual. Update: This part of the route is now completed!

Dubrovnik to Split by Bus

If you prefer to travel by bus, you can get a bus to Split several times per day. The bus departs from Dubrovnik’s bus terminal and drives to Split, stopping along the way in numerous smaller places. Buses are fairly frequent in tourist season, while out of season, there are just a couple of buses per day. It takes over 4 hours (depending on the route) to reach Split. The current ticket cost is about 24 Euros one way ( see timetable and prices )

By Taxi, Uber, or Private Car Transfer

A  taxi ride between Dubrovnik and Split  lasts just under 3.5 hours including crossing the Peljesac bridge. The current price quoted to me is 350 Euro. The quote from UBER is 320 Euro (see photo/map below). This is a good option if 3 to 4 people travel together and share costs.

• Can I take bikes on a fast ferry? Yes, if you are traveling by bicycle you can take your bike on the foot passenger ferry. The advance booking is recommended as bike spaces are limited.
• Do I need a car in Dubrovnik and Split? In both cities, you most probably do not need a car, as public transport is very good. The alternative transport is a taxi or Uber.
