  • Tours of Dubrovnik, Pearl of the Adriatic and Split with its Emperor Diocletian’s monumental palace, one of the greatest structures of the Roman Empire.
  • Explore the stunningly beautiful island of Mljet with its tiny islet of St Mary's.
  • Guided tours of delightfully green Hvar and Korčula, one of the Adriatic’s most perfectly preserved medieval ports.
  • Visit the coastal town of Makarska and one of the most beautiful villages of Croatia, Pučišća.
  • Swim stops in idyllic locations and scenic sailing between the islands of the Dalmatian Coast.

In the small, picturesque ports on the Dalmatian coast you are cruising the Mediterranean aboard your very own yacht-cruiser. Smaller numbers mean a more personal service on board, whilst the dimensions of our vessels allow easy access to stunningly attractive out-of-the-way ports like Split, Makarska and Hvar, which offer a much more intimate onshore experience. Our ships often sail between the islands and the shore, affording spectacular views that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Every evening, the ships remain moored so you can take an after-dinner stroll off the vessel, exploring these typically unspoilt ports. After just a few days of this extraordinary experience, you will be on first-name terms with the ship’s company and most of your fellow guests. There is little formality – shorts and t-shirts are the order of the day. This is exactly how holidays should be.

Your Itinerary

  • DAY 1 Embark in Dubrovnik
  • DAY 2 Mljet
  • DAY 3 Makarska & Pučišća
  • DAY 4 Split
  • DAY 5 Stari Grad & Hvar
  • DAY 6 Korčula
  • DAY 7 Dubrovnik
  • DAY 8 Disembark in Dubrovnik

Embark in Dubrovnik

Embark on the superb four-star MV Corona. The captain and crew will welcome you aboard and help you settle into your comfortable, well-equipped cabin.

For the rest of the day, it’s time to relax and get to know your fellow passengers – there are just thirty-eight of you in total! Perhaps you’ll catch some ‘rays’ on the Sun deck or take a stroll ashore. It’ll soon be time for dinner and the ship’s restaurant awaits. After dinner, why not take a stroll around Dubrovnik, or enjoy a digestif in a local bar?

Route map

Cruising along the Elaphite Islands

As you rise refreshed in the morning and enjoy a leisurely breakfast, you’ll be so glad you chose this holiday. The MV Corona, our home for the next week and every inch the private yacht, slips out of the harbour and out to sea. Dubrovnik soon fades into the distance – but we will be back for a more in-depth visit later. It is impossible for large cruise liners to visit the charming and almost deserted hamlets accessible to the MV Corona.

We arrive at Mljet, one of the most seductive of such islands, where the hillsides are clad in a green carpet of lush pine forests bringing that instantly recognisable Mediterranean aroma to the air. Nestling in picturesque coves are medieval fishing villages, refreshingly free from tasteless development, where the alleyways are simply pebbles set into the earth and overhead shutters sway precariously in the warm, gentle breezes. Life here continues much as it has for centuries.

We go ashore to the tiny islet of St Mary’s and visit the 12th century former Benedictine monastery. With its colourful walls and altar carved from local stone you will already feel a long way from home. Gaze around you during dinner at one of the hospitable local restaurants and absorb the ambience. It’s easy to see why legend has it that the Greek hero Ulysses came here to contemplate.

Included experience:

Visit to Mljet.

Elaphite Islands, Croatia

Makarska & Pučišća

After breakfast, take to the deck to see the spectacular coast of Korčula island sliding by as we cruise northwards through this enchanting archipelago. On reaching the mainland we drop anchor in the port of Makarska from where you can marvel at the rocky splendour of Mount Biokovo, nearly 1,828 metres above sea level, which shelters the coast from less temperate climates further inland.

During the 10th century this region was bedevilled by fearsome pirates preying on passing ships. A slightly raffish atmosphere still prevails but piracy has long since been replaced by more peaceful activities such as fishing, and the production of olive oil and wine. St Mark’s Baroque church and some palatial 18th-century Venetian style houses stand guard over Makarska’s main square. Enjoy lunch at your leisure wherever you wish.

This afternoon we sail to the glorious island of Brac, mooring in idyllic Pučišća. This jewel of a place, perhaps the most spectacular of Croatia’s villages, boasts dwellings of gleaming white stone reflecting the sun onto the crystal-clear water. Stroll ashore to explore this charming spot or relax on board before the superb Captain’s Dinner is served – a delicious selection of Croatian and Mediterranean specialities.

Included experiences:

Visits to Makarska & Pučišća.

Pucisca, Croatia

Sailing with swim stop

Rise refreshed and take to the deck once more to watch the stunning coastal views slipping by. We continue north, stopping along the coastline of the stunning island of Brac for a swim stop.

Lunch is served on board after which we moor in Split, Dalmatia’s capital.

Split is principally famous for a single building, the Emperor Diocletian’s huge palace, one of the greatest structures of the Roman Empire. No expense was spared in its construction – the best Italian marble, with columns and sphinxes from Egypt. But what makes this palace so astonishing is that during medieval times it was fully integrated into the town’s fabric with a jumble of buildings grafted onto and inside it.

This means for example, the Temple of Jupiter became a baptistry. It’s all the more fascinating that today 3,000 people still live here. You will find surprises at every turn: there are tall medieval buildings lining the streets, buttressed by unmistakably Roman columns.

We have a guided walking tour of this fascinating complex which has recently been used as the setting of the TV spectacular Game of Thrones. Take dinner at your leisure whilst the ship remains moored in Split. Back on board enjoy a digestif on the sun deck, drinking in the balmy evening air under a beautiful night sky.

Swim stop and guided tour of Split and the Emperor Diocletian’s palace.

Split, Croatia

Stari Grad & Hvar

This morning we’ll stop once more for an invigorating swim before we cruise to another stunning island in this breath-taking archipelago, Hvar.

Stari Grad & Hvar

After lunch we moor in Stari Grad on the northern side of the island and then take the short drive by coach to the bewitching old town for a guided tour. Remarkably, it’s so compact and cosy the streets don’t even have names. With its freshwater springs, the island is unusually green, its hillsides boasting spectacular pine forests.

Elsewhere you’ll find olive groves, orchards and vineyards, the aromatic pleasures of the island exemplified by the delicate fragrance of abundant lavender fields. Hvar has been inhabited since Neolithic times; later, the Ancient Greeks founded a colony here, and during the 14th-century, as the Venetian Empire extended its influence, it became a major naval base. Also on the island’s northern shores are some distinctive fortified 16th-century buildings, built to repel pirates and assaults by the Ottoman Empire.

After exploring Hvar’s agricultural, historical and cultural splendours, we transfer back to Stari Grad where you can dine at leisure wherever you wish. The ship remains moored in Stari Grad overnight.

Swim stop & guided tour of Hvar.

Hvar, Croatia

Morning breaks and we find ourselves breakfasting over more stunning views of this most spectacular coastline. After a leisurely morning with yet another chance for a  swim in a sheltered bay, and a tasty lunch on board, we soon arrive at the historic town of Korčula.

Ruled by the Venetians for 800 years, it is rather reminiscent of a much smaller Dubrovnik, with its host of tangled lanes so typical of medieval Mediterranean ports. The town is a charming small fortress, celebrated for supplying timber for the wooden walls of Venice and its harbour was a major shelter for the Venetian fleet.

You’ll find architectural gems at every turn in its narrow-cobbled streets. Famous for its artistic and musical traditions, Korčula has its own unique sword dance, the ‘moreska’, and a form of a-capella singing, but is much more famous as the birthplace of the explorer Marco Polo. His house can still be visited, as can the All-Saints Museum with its glorious collection of Byzantine icons.

After our guided walking tour, you are free to explore this beautiful town further. After dinner at your leisure, why not take an after-dinner drink in one of the innumerable harbour side cafés whilst admiring the sleek lines of the MV Corona.

Swim stop & guided walking tour of Korčula.

Korčula, Croatia

As our elegant yacht drifts on past the rocky shores of the beautiful Elaphite Islands, if the weather allows, it’s your last chance to take a swim off the back of the ship as if it were your very own!

After lunch on board, we arrive in Dubrovnik once more and take a guided tour of the old town. An independent city state for much of its history, it has evolved differently to the rest of Croatia. The city threw off its Venetian shackles during medieval times founding a commercial empire trading with the eastern Mediterranean, France, Spain and later the Ottoman Empire.

As so often happened, the city began to reflect its resultant wealth and today this wonderfully Baroque city proudly nestles behind its huge imposing ramparts in a location of outstanding natural beauty. The main avenue, lined by intimate cafés, is completely paved with marble, which dazzles in the sunlight and gives credence to the city’s description as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’.

Throughout the city you will find a wonderful array of monasteries, beautifully decorated churches and civic buildings dating from the 14th-century. The guided walking tour encompasses all this and more, after which you are free to explore as you wish.

This evening enjoy a final dinner at your leisure in this most beguiling of cities; and as you relax, your thoughts inevitably turn to the wonderful places you have experienced and the interesting people you have met on this most fascinating of maritime adventures.

Swim stop & guided tour of Dubrovnik’s old town.

Sailing Qualifications

To skipper a bareboat charter or flotilla yacht, you need to hold a practical sailing certificate equivalent to RYA Day Skipper Practical qualification or RYA International Certificate of Competence (ICC) . For charters in Greece, you must now have the ICC certificate . You must also be assisted by at least one competent crew member over the age of 18.

The port authorities in Greece are now insisting on one of the following practical certificates: RYA ICC (International Certificate of Competence), RYA Coastal, RYA Yachtmaster, ASA IPC (International Proficiency Certificate) or the IYT (International Yacht Training) Passport. If you hold an RYA Day Skipper or ASA104 it will no longer be accepted and you need to obtain either an ICC or IPC from the corresponding issuing body (RYA or ASA). If your RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster or ASA105/106 certificate is more than 12 years old and does not have a photo ID, then we would also strongly advise applying for an ICC or IPC. If you are a member of the RYA or ASA, you may qualify for a discount or free certificate, otherwise, you will have to pay. The approximate cost is £50. Please use this link - RYA application for the ICC or ASA application for the IPC.

For charters in Croatia, Malta and the Canaries , at least one member of the crew or the skipper will also need a VHF licence .

RYA qualifications can be obtained by RYA sailing schools in the UK or alternatively choose from one of our overseas centres in Gibraltar, Greece or Turkey .

For  Seychelles,  the local authorities require an ICC for the skipper of a bareboat or flotilla yacht charter.

For Caribbean and Tropical charters, formal qualifications are not compulsory, however, you should be Day Skipper standard and be assisted by at least one competent crew . A brief sailing resume should be provided to outline your experience.

For Thailand A Day Skipper qualification is required as a minimum and you must have at least 3 weeks of skippering experience prior to your charter. A VHF qualification is compulsory.

If you don't hold the relevant qualifications then why not add a skipper ?

Sailing Levels

Winds force 2-3 (4-11 Knots)combined with generally shorter distances. Good for beginner or intermediate sailors. Line-of-sight navigation but basic knowledge of charts and ability to plot your position required.

Winds force 3-5 (7-21 Knots) with approximately 15-20nm per day. Intermediate experience required. Predominately line of sight navigation but an understanding of how to sail in open water.

Winds force 4-6 (11-27 Knots) with mileage of approximately 20nm+ per day. Ideal for experienced skippers looking to venture out to new destinations. Day skipper standard but with experienced crew would be recommended.

Accommodation

MV Captain Bota

The luxurious MS Captain Bota is a First Class modern motor yacht built in 2015 - with its classic lines and superb passenger facilities it wouldn’t look out of place on the Cote d’Azur! Having just 38 guests ensures there is plenty of room to relax and unwind.

The 18 spacious cabins are on the main deck and the lower deck and are well appointed and contemporary in style. These luxurious cabins all have double or twin beds, an en-suite bathroom with toiletries, air-conditioning, satellite LCD TV, free Wi-Fi, a safe, radio and a hair dryer. Cabins on the lower deck have two portholes and cabins on the main deck have windows. Cabins on the main deck are accessed from outside the ship and cabins on the lower deck are accessed from inside the ship.

Public areas are well laid out and include an upper deck air-conditioned restaurant with a separate lounge-bar area as well as an outside, covered terrace with tables and chairs - ideal should there be occasional inclement weather.

The sun deck has sun-beds, or soak up the sun in the Jacuzzi. During swim stops head to the rear of the ship where you’ll find a swimming platform with ladders that dip down to the clear blue waters of the Adriatic, giving very easy access for a swim.

Please note; due to the size and overall design of the MS Captain Bota there is no lift between decks and therefore a reasonable degree of mobility is required to negotiate the stairs and gangways.

Excursions & Itinerary

Fly to Split and transfer to the port to embark on the MS Captain Bota, where the captain, cruise manager and crew will welcome you aboard and help you settle into your comfortable, well-equipped cabin. Meet your travelling companions over drinks and a Welcome Dinner, which is included on board this evening. The ship remains moored in Split overnight, so perhaps after dinner you may like to go ashore and enjoy a drink in one of the local bars. The ship’s bar will also be open should you decide to stay on board.

As you enjoy a leisurely breakfast, you’ll be so glad you chose this yacht cruise. Our exclusively charted yacht, which really is just like a private yacht, weighs anchor and sails out to sea. Split soon dips below the horizon as we sail south – but we will be back for a more in-depth visit later. On our cruise it is impossible for large cruise liners to call at most of the picturesque harbours on the islands which we will visit on the MS Captain Bota. This cruise includes five lunches and two evening meals, including a Captain’s Dinner, prepared on board. On other occasions you can step ashore to try local restaurants and, each evening, there’s the option to enjoy a nightcap at the ship’s relaxed upper-deck bar. Swimming is planned today at one of the most famous beaches in Dalmatia – Zlatni Rat (the Golden Cape) near Bol. Bol is a typical small fisherman’s town turned into a popular tourist destination and there will be time for a walk or to have a coffee in one of the pavement cafes until lunch is served on board. After lunch our cruise continues towards Hvar which, with some 2,700 hours of sunshine each year, makes it Croatia’s sunniest island! On arrival we have a guided walking tour and then the evening is at leisure. There is a good choice of family owned restaurants in Hvar.

This morning we sail towards the island of Mljet, which is a National Park and one of the most beautiful of the Croatian islands. We’ll make a swim stop along the way, then lunch will be served on board while cruising to Mljet National Park. On arrival there is an opportunity to explore the National Park with its two salt-water lakes (optional) and to enjoy the sun and sea on this peaceful island which, legend has it, was a favourite of the Greek hero Odysseus. This evening the Captain’s Dinner is served on board, offering a variety of delicious Mediterranean and Croatian dishes. The ship remains moored in Mljet overnight.

After breakfast we sail for UNESCO listed Dubrovnik, which for many will be the highlight port of call on the cruise. Arriving in Dubrovnik’s bustling port in the afternoon, a coach takes us to meet our guide for our included walking tour of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, which is completely encircled by its 15th century stone walls. Dubrovnik was described as “heaven on earth” by George Bernard Shaw and is often referred to as the Pearl of the Adriatic. Learn all about the turbulent history of this amazing Adriatic city during our tour and discover its beauty whilst uncovering the treasures of the Old Town. The main avenue, the Stradun, is lined by inviting cafés and restaurants and is completely paved with marble. Other highlights will include the Franciscan Monastery that houses Europe's oldest pharmacy, and the Rector's Palace (entrances payable locally). After the tour the time is your own to make further discoveries in this fascinating city. Perhaps stroll around the 1,900 metres long walls or take a ride on the cable car to the top of Srd Hill for breathtaking views of the city and beyond and then choose a restaurant or cafe for dinner. A return coach transfer to the ship is scheduled for this evening or you can easily return on your own. We stay overnight in the port of this magical town.

After breakfast we start our cruise to Korcula Island, making a swim stop on the way. Korcula Island is bursting with authenticity, tradition and untouched natural beauty with its picturesque villages, vineyards and olive groves. We have lunch on board as we cruise on to Korcula town. Step ashore to discover the narrow streets and crumbling fortifications of this lovely town on our included walking tour. This is – legend has it - the explorer Marco Polo’s birthplace and his house can be viewed among the splendid Venetian style architecture. On Korcula Island you can find more legends, tales and monuments than anywhere else in Croatia. After our guided walking tour, you are free to explore this beautiful town further. This evening, enjoy dinner ashore at your leisure in one of the innumerable harbour-side restaurants and cafés. Overnight stay in Korcula.

After breakfast you’ll want to go out on the sun deck to see the breathtaking coast of Korcula island sliding by as we cruise northwards to the Makarska Riviera on the mainland, making a refreshing swim stop on the way. On reaching the mainland we drop anchor in the port of Makarska, who’s old town is characterised by its narrow stone-paved streets, a main church square and a Franciscan monastery that dates back to 1614. This evening relax with an aperitif whilst watching the spectacular sunset over the Adriatic and enjoying dinner at a restaurant of your choosing.

This morning after breakfast we’ll cruise across from the mainland to the beautiful island of Brac, making a port of call at Pucisca. In tiny Pucisca, everywhere you turn is pretty as a picture thanks to the town’s skill for stone masonry. Cream-coloured townhouses and gently swaying palms give the place a model village look, while sleek yachts like ours and waterfront cafés around the sheltered harbour show off a touch of riviera chic. After time for a relaxing stroll we’ll lunch on board while cruising to Split. Split may be more than 1700 years old, but this spirited destination is anything but tired. Situated at the heart of the Dalmatian Coast, Split has a charming old town that contains the UNESCO World Heritage site of Diocletian's Palace. An included walking tour of Split includes a visit to this vast Imperial Palace which is named after the Roman Emperor Diocletian who built it as his retirement home and lived here from 295AD to 305AD. Croatia’s second largest city is bursting with energy and a charming Mediterranean flavour, with lots of bars and restaurants where you can take dinner at your leisure whilst the ship remains moored in Split. Back on board perhaps enjoy a farewell drink on the sun deck under a beautiful night sky.

After breakfast we disembark from the Captain Bota and return to the airport at the appropriate time for our return flight to the UK.

Whether you want a cabin or a private charter when you sail Croatia in 2021, you'll discover that the Adriatic Sea is the clearest around, perfect for an afternoon dip and with a plethora of bays to explore and konobas to choose from for dinner, you’ll never be too far away from traditional meals and the warmth of the local hospitality.

Med Sailing Holidays Offers Island Hopping Trips Through the Waters of Croatia

Med Sailing Holidays offers a convenient way for everyone from couples to groups to see the splendour of the Mediterranean or Caribbean on sailing holidays in Croatia . With almost 2, 000km of coastline on the turquoise Adriatic, Croatia boasts some of Europe’s cleanest shores with its photogenic beaches dotted by ancient cities. With over a thousand islands, it is ideal for island hopping and exploration with our talented crew at the helm.

Tips for Getting More Value Out of Your Sailing Vacation in Croatia

Everyone wants to get the most value for money, and we offer different options to suit your budget. You can charter one of our luxury yachts for a private holiday or charter a cabin on one of our public sailings for a fraction of the cost. Here are a few more tips to help you get ready for your Croatian sailing holiday:

Our talented crew will take care of your breakfasts and lunches with an unparalleled menu catering to vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. For dinners, you are on your own to explore the fantastic and often inexpensive restaurants and cafes in the cities and towns that we reach at the end of the day.

If you have the time to spare, make sure to reach Croatia a day or two before the yacht sets sail. Both Split and Dubrovnik are beautiful cities with many attractions to explore and experience, make sure you make it to the marina with plenty of time to spare. Arriving a day or two early usually means a better airport experience, too as Saturdays are usually the busiest days at the airports in Croatia.

People tend to over pack for their sailing holiday, but we always recommend packing light. Remember your swimwear, something to wear when you go out for the evening and a warm jacket in case. We provide bed linens and towels, but you may bring your own beach towels. Don’t forget rock shoes if you plan on doing a little exploring.

What Sets Med Sailing Holidays Apart Regarding a Crewed Yacht Charter in Croatia

We offer a higher level of service and cater to a wider range of guests. A few of the things that sets us apart include:

There are no hidden fees or ‘departure taxes’ when you come on board. When we say our packages are transparent and inclusive, we mean it.

Our boats come with Wi-Fi at no extra charge. In Croatia, we provide 4G with unlimited data.

We provide your breakfasts and lunches, but you are also free to bring food and drink. Galley space is limited, so plan accordingly.

Things to Do on Your Bareboat Charter in Croatia

If you know how to handle a sailing yacht and want to experience the beauty of the Dalmatian coast in seclusion, try bareboat sailing in Croatia. Unlike our other private charters, the bareboat option comes without a crew and gives you the freedom to explore some of Croatia’s 1, 000 islands. To get the most out of your bareboat charter, it is best to plan to make sure the activities you and your group are interested in are available. This option is perfect for couples or small groups looking for adventure. Here are a few of our favourite places along the Dalmatian Coast to give you an idea of where to steer the yacht:

Dubrovnik is one of the two cities our Croatian charters depart from, and it more than earned the title of ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’. A haven for lovers of history, it has played an important maritime role for millennia and even rivalled the Republic of Venice for control of trade in the Adriatic. Don’t forget to take many pictures of the imposing Lovrijenac fortress.

Situated about halfway between Dubrovnik and Split, Vis is always a popular island to visit with family-friendly beaches and numerous activities and excursions to try for the adventurous type.

Split is Croatia’s second largest city and home to plenty of outdoor activities including white water rafting and one of the most beautiful beaches in the country.

Why Trust Med Sailing Holidays Regarding Family Sailing Holidays in Croatia

Many of our guests choose to bring the whole family on one of our yacht holidays in Croatia, often choosing a private charter to have the boat to themselves. The turquoise waters of the Dalmatian Coast offer something for everyone, from those who want to sit back and relax, to those who crave adventure in the water, or even history buffs more interested in the beautiful ancient cities that dot the coast. With a private charter, you can design a custom itinerary based on where your family wants to go and what they want to do. There is no better way to create memories that will last a lifetime. If you are interested in learning more about our Croatia sailing holidays package, or any of the other beautiful locations we visit, contact us today.

SAILING IN CROATIA - INCLUSIONS

When you book a sailing holiday in Croatia, you want to make sure you get the most value for your money. It’s also important that you’re aware of the costs before you book your trip, so you don’t have any surprises after it’s too late.

When you are looking at your options for a sailing holiday in Croatia, you will first need to establish if you are booking a private yacht charter for your friends and family, or are you going to book a cabin charter for a fraction of the price.

We offer two options, the first being a fully crewed, all inclusive option which covers everything your trip needs. The second option allows you to just book a 'Boat and Captain' option and you can manage your expenses yourself. This option is only available on selected dates.

Whichever option you opt for, you will need to consider all the running costs, which you can’t avoid, such as your captain, berthing, cleaning, fuel, provisions and so on. If you haven’t factored these into your costs, you might be in for a nasty surprise.

Whether you book our private charter or cabin charter option, you will see that we don’t leave anything out in the extensive list of inclusions we offer . This means that at first glance our fully crewed sailing holidays are more expensive than the other operators, however upon closer inspection you will find that our total package price will come in costing you less and giving you more value.

BOAT & CAPTAIN ONLY

When you book a sailing holiday in Croatia, sometimes you want to keep an eye on the expenses yourself, so we're offering you the opportunity to manage your own trip.

On selected dates we offer you the 'Boat & Captain' option.  This price includes the following:

Boat: Oceanis 48

Captain and captain meal allowance

Cleaning fee

The price does not include:

Tourist taxes

Early check in

Refundable security deposit €2,500

With the Boat & Captain option you are responsible for all operating costs and meal preparation.
