Boating in Bali & the surrounding islands is a boaters tropical paradise. There are so many pristine tropical oases around the coastline of Bali, and viewing the island from a boat gives you a whole new appreciation of the mother nature's natural splendor. We're even more lucky to have several islands nearby an abundant amount of sealife, surf and postcard perfection that you will be left in awe. Private white sand beaches, tall tropical palm trees, and shades of crystal clear blue water that make you think you are in a dream. Our goal is to take you there by boat and help create an unforgettable memory island hopping in your own private yacht.

Why Bali Yacht Services?

Because we love boating in Bali! We've been doing it for over a decade and any day you'll find us on the water promoting what we love -- yachting in Bali. We were one of the first to bring the idea of yacht tourism to make it available online. And that's still what we love to do -- make chartering a yacht in Bali easy and accessible to visitors who want to experience yacht life in Bali. There is nothing like the feeling of sailing the clear blue sea, and this website is here to help you navigate yachting paradise.

Everything went well, the trip was wonderful. The company provided us with a transfer to the port. The price was reasonable and the route interesting. Overall, the yacht was clean, but the kitchen was a bit untidy.

Thank you to the team and all the staff for helping us organize a romantic trip! I wanted to make an offer to the bride, and the manager told me that we could order a “Romantic dinner”. Everything went perfectly! Thank you!!!

We stumbled across beautiful pictures and they led us to the site. We wanted to repeat the photo shoot on board the yacht. It is a pity that the minimum rental period is 4 hours. But in addition to the photo shoots, we got cool impressions from our boat trip.

What types of fishing one may do there?

What fish can be caught there?

Big tuna, mahi-mahi fish, giant horse mackerel and spanish mackerel can be caught in coastal waters. You can find barracuda – a toothy predator which is also known as sea pike along coral reefs. After all, you can anchor by the reefs and get some spadefish there.

Lighthouse Consultancy

Bali is probably the best known of the Indonesian islands and is often the first point of call into Indonesia for vessels coming from Singapore, Thailand or areas further West. Bali offers a huge diversity of attractions for visitors although the island itself has limited cruising due to exposed shores and deep slopes. However, it remains a popular starting point for yachts wishing to enjoy an extended cruise east, through the Nusa Tenggara region of Indonesia into the cruising grounds that incorporate and surround Komodo National Park.

Jet

Bali is the main international tourist hub for Indonesia and Benoa Harbour is the international port, located on the eastern side of the southern tip of the island. Benoa Port officials can issue Visa On Arrival, making life less complicated for arriving yacht crews and guests. The International airport is also very well connected, with multiple daily flights from Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur. An Execujet Terminal just 10 minutes drive from the port also increases the exclusivity of guests arriving privately.

bali yacht club

The island of Bali holds a charm created by its warm, welcoming people and their unique Hindu culture. Both crew and guests will certainly enjoy their time here with something to suit every taste. There are cultural and scenic activities including visits to atmospheric temples and luscious rice paddy views. There is a huge diversity of tourist attractions from wake parks to night zoos. For the more active there is surfing, diving, cylcing, canyoning and trekking. A more relaxing experience takes in beaches, gourmet food in world class restaurants, shopping and spas along with an array of trendy nightlife keeping everyone entertained.

Bali is also the home port of the Lighthouse Team, with the central office based in Sanur, about 15 minutes from Benoa Harbour. Having lived on the island for 20 years and tried and tested the majority of what is on offer, the Lighthouse team are well placed to suggest some of the “must-visit” places to really make the most of this internationally renowned island.

bali yacht club

Due to the significant number of luxury residences and five star resorts on Bali, quality provisions are readily available and can be arranged through the Lighthouse provisioning team. Logistically speaking, Bali is the most accessible location to organise first world provisioning without any domestic shipping requirements.

Avoiding expenses by using the Ship Spares in Transit process can be challenging in other areas of Indonesia, however if a vessel is in Benoa Harbour, items can be internationally shipped and delivered to the vessel without incurring the standard import duties associated with sending items to Indonesia.

Bali is a good location to complete simple maintenance projects. It has a decent network for repair and maintenance and is easily accessible for specialist technicians coming from other areas. The well connected airport also provides efficient crew rotation and reception of guests.

Bali Berthing

Berthing is mostly available in Benoa Harbour and there are three main options. Depending on the traffic, the Benoa Harbour complex is located about 15 minutes from the sleepy town of Sanur and about 30 minutes from the cool nightlife found in Seminyak. If a yacht prefers a quieter location away from a commercial setting then there is the option of the Royal Bali Yacht Club  in Serangan Bay to the north of the harbour. Serangan Bay is a great location for crew walking distance to south Sanur and 45 minutes to Seminyak. There are plenty of spacious anchoring options in both of these locations.

Alongside East Dock

For larger yachts the 250+ metres of commercial East Dock in Benoa Harbour gives an option to come alongside. This is a busy, commercial dock and is in regular use by cargo and passenger traffic. In quieter times it has been utilised by yachts for extended periods, although it is often necessary to move for commercial activities, passenger or cruise ship arrivals. There is no potable water or shore power available, although fresh water reservoirs can be installed for vessels planning to stay for long periods. This is the ideal space for large deliveries and a crane can be rented if any heavy lifting is required.

Berthing at BBQ

For yachts up to 60 metres there are 3 ‘med style’ stern to berths available at the Big Boat Quay (BBQ). Still in a commercial setting so a little rough and ready with access via a floating platform. Non-potable fresh water is usually supplied via 3000 litre reservoirs and the water is gravity fed or pumped to the vessel. There is no plug in shore power, but shore side generators, although expensive, can be arranged. Technically, it is not possible to advance book a berth so it’s first come first served, but people generally try to help each other out, including moving during arrival and departure maneouvers.

Benoa Marina

A new option is the Benoa Marina. This is currently the most ‘yacht-standard’ facility in Bali and the floating pontoons are the best that can be booked on the island. Berths have accommodated Lighthouse vessels up to 70 metres with potential for larger yachts depending on the draft. There is pontoon access to shore, non-potable water and low level shore power available on the dock. At the time of writing Benoa Marina is a work in progress, with plans for shore power in the future, along with cafe, chandlers and other yacht focused facilities. It is possible to advance book berths as long a deposits are made.

Berthing at RBYC

Serangan Bay is home to the Royal Bali Yacht Club (RBYC) with options for vessels up to 90 metres in three stern to med-style berths. Operators plan to extend this capacity after new concrete jetties are cast and installed. The area is a little exposed, both to wind and the larger swells that come through but Lighthouse has had multiple 60 and 70 metre yachts in this facility. Dayboat speedboats leave from the dock next door, so it has a busy period in the morning and afternoon. This has a slightly cheaper nightly rate than Benoa and berths can be booked in advance as long as they are paid in full in advance.

“We have been using Lighthouse for the past two years whilst cruising Indonesia. With the ever changing regulations/challenges in the area, we are shielded from the hassles and get to concentrate on showing the owners a good time. Its an incredible cruising ground, with beauty above and below the water.”

Hi, thinking of bringing a boat to Bali, with a view to living aboard for a few months or longer. Does anyone know if that's OK to do there? Google shows 3-4 Marinas south of Denpasar, does anyone know of any more? Does anyone know about any of them, or have any info on them? We'll be coming over in December but it'd be nice to know the "friendly" ones before then. Any info or leads would be much appreciated. Cheers

Hi Webbysone and welcome to the forum. As an avid boater myself (stinkboats) I wish I could give you good news but cannot. The facilities in Bali for boating are awful by your Australian standard and mine (Vancouver/Seattle). The principle area for keeping boats is around Benoa Harbor, which is convenient, but there is no marina as we would understand. There are a few rickety docks and buoy moorings in the protected backwater, and some services, but I wouldn't recommend living aboard there. Not only that but there is a restriction on how long a foreign registered boat can stay in Indonesian waters. Even the visiting sailboaters find it very restrictive....and to import, I think, would be taxed...best check that out as it could be costly. I hate to burst your dream but bringing a boat to live aboard here, imo....isn't viable.

hey davita, - nice to meet you. yep i only trust an engine too. i get the difference between countries & facilities, but i thought if i can find somewhere for a few months it's take the heat off renting. plus i don't think foreigners can own a house in bali but a boat is still ours if you follow. - think i will contact them anyway and just see what they say. - would you know what govt dept handles the registration of boats? it might be worthwhile swapping the rego over to indonesia if we decide it's going to be home. - i was going to bring her, and us, in on a business visa using the deck relaying and other woodwork being done locally as a way to stay a few months, spending money and hiring locally etc etc? - we're flying up in december for 3-4 weeks to have a snoop around. - thanks for the advice and anything else you can turn up would be appreciated - be happy to buy you dinner for your trouble, cheers

haha, you gotta eat, she's right. i'm more of a coast hopper than a genuine boatie. we have bought our boats as houses more than boats, if you follow. currently on the sunshine coast, queensland. a 3 month trip to get her there but if it's right, then we'll do it

Coastie...me too. Been cruising in my gin-palace from Olympia to almost Alaska but always within sight of land....and on a friend's vodka-palace from Miami to Boston but always on the Intercoastal. We hardly ever ventured into the ocean coz' the wave motion might spill the martinis. When we moved from Vancouver to live in Bali we left our boat on a secure slip in downtown Vancouver. It was a perfect location and we lived aboard every summer from June-Aug for a few years...but, I added the cost of moorage/insurance/maintenance etc. and concluded I couldn't justify the annual expense just for 3 months of summer...so reluctantly sold her. However, if your fees in Queensland were reasonable, I'd consider doing something similar....you could live in Bali cheaply for 6-9 months and live on the boat back home for your summer, which is the wet season in Bali anyway. Most people rent scooters to get around Bali and taxis are dirt cheap, it's just the traffic is a nightmare. Anyway, when you get here head for Benoa Harbour and Pulau Serangan also known as Turtle Island...not far from the airport and Kuta or Sanur. That is where most guys keep boats and you should get an idea. There's a yacht club (?) on Serangan where anybody can lunch and they may have notices or, if a member, or someone in the office is present, can hopefully answer any questions you may have about registering boats, living aboard, etc. I hasten to add....prepare to be disappointed in what you see and learn....a Marina it is not.

haha, a man after my own heart, you don't want to spill good vodka!!! the marina fees here, like everything else, are pretty vicious. for a boat our size it's AUD$20-30.000 a year, and that's after discount for paying 6-12 months up front. You're not supposed to live aboard when they're moored between the poles, and yes it's policed, so you either moor in a proper (and expensive) marina or stay mobile, but there's rules on how long you can stay in one place in most places you'd want to go to. So unless you know someone and can get into a fishing boat marina you're up for AUD400-600 a week, in most of the nice places. We don't mind "roughing it" if it means it's affordable and gives us a reason to be there for 6-12 months but I do get your point about "don't expect a proper marina" and thanks for the heads up. if we do bring her you'll have to come for a motor or just a drink. i have en electrical and gas ticket so if i can repay the favour, or if you need anything sent up please ask. thanks for the good info.

Hi Webbysone I don’t think you can easily do what you plan to in Bali. At least, not for an extended period of time. I had an American expat neighbour seven years ago who claimed to be sailing around the world. He reckoned his boat was being repaired and leased a house near us. He stayed there about six months then skipped without paying his rent (not sure how he got the Balinese owners to agree to let him stay without paying up front). Of course, his whole story might have been a load of crap in the first place. If it were possible to live on a boat in Bali, I think some of us long-term expats would have considered doing just that, given the high costs of leasing properties here. ($5,000-$10,000/year would be considered relatively “cheap” around Sanur, if you could find one for that.) “Buying” a property, i.e, the building on the land not the land itself, is very expensive. The so-called Royal Bali Yacht Club is not really a yacht club in the conventional sense, but you might meet some true yachties amongst them. It’s more of a sailing club promoting/teaching basic sailing skills on dinghies/lasers. https://www.facebook.com/The-Royal-Bali-Yacht-Club-180490465340799/ Good luck.

hi jc, cheers for that. yes you would think someone would have done it as you say but i can't find anyone who actually has. i'm currently living in aus so $5.000 - 10.000 a year is give away in comparison. depends on your income i guess. i'll go check them out when i come over in december. cheers again

yeah, read about that last night. as i'm now officially an "old bugger" i will apply for the retirement kitas type visa i think. i seems the best one. from what i read it seems best/easiest to get a agent to do it for you?

davita said: The Business visa may not be suitable for your project. It is designed for foreign business persons to conduct business negotiations, short term work assignments or training assignments. It requires the foreigner to submit info of his business abroad and the relative business in Indonesia that will sponsor the visit.
