Our standard yachting caps are manufactured in our UK workshop utilising dark naval 100% merino wool doeskin of the highest quality to make a lightweight but durable product incorporating a real leather sweatband and a perforated stiffener.

When compared with Leveson yachting caps our standard yachting caps are of a larger overall size with a larger peak.

Available sizes: 53cm – 63cm

Please note:

It is important to measure your head when purchasing a new cap.

Please do not rely on the size in your existing cap as sizing varies between independent cap manufacturers.

Cap sizing: 

To determine your cap size place a fabric tape measure around your head, 1 centimeter above your ears. Hold the tape firmly across the forehead and take the measurement in centimeters. If your measurement falls between sizes please choose the next largest size.

Included with your cap are 4 size reducers which can be inserted underneath the sweatband to achieve the correct fit.

Follow our step by step guide

• Remove the mohair band with badge attached.
• Reach into the crown and bring the crown wire toward the centre of the cap.
• This will allow you to remove the existing cap cover.
• Find the front of your new cover by looking inside for the letter ‘F’, If this is not present look for a single seam (The size is written at the back of the cover and the back is shown by two seams)
• Hook the single seam over the crown wire at the front of your cap aligning the cover seam with the seam on the cap front support.
• Turn the cap over and place on a clean surface.
• Manipulate the crown wire into the cap cover (You may need to pull the wire toward the centre of the cap to allow this)
• If fitted correctly the front seam of the cap cover should align with the front seam of the cap.
• Finish off by refitting the mohair band with badge attached.

World’s Coolest Boats: The Dabchick class

“The ‘Dabbie’ was a very popular youth boat and one of the best training boats ever. Every person that made it in sailing in South Africa started out on the Dabbie. Designed by Jack Koper and made of three sheets of plywood over a wooden meranti frame it is very simple and inexpensive to build.

“The boat has a flat deck, and a scow-like bow with no cockpit – so in breezy conditions the boat just keeps going and never fills up. The mast is very simple: deck stepped with a main and fractional jib.

“The boat was perfect for the windy Cape Town sailing scene where the south-easter’ regularly blows in excess of 20 knots. The Dabchicks class is still alive and well and the fleet numbers close to 5,000 boats all over South Africa.

“I have very fond wet and cold memories of sailing a Dabchick my father built for me out of Zeekoe Vlei Yacht Club, Cape Town. The Dabbie gave me the passion for sailing which led onto keelboats and then the international circuit, my Everest being winning the 1981/82 Whitbread Race as bowman and photographer on Flyer.”

Onne van der Wal is one of the most respected photographers in yachting. Born in the Netherlands, he grew up in South Africa. After joining the Dutch crew on Flyer in the 1981 Whitbread he moved to Newport, RI, and has spent nearly four decades shooting the world’s top regattas and sail expeditions.

The bulk of the Yachting cap is made from strong, 100% cotton twill material, with a sweat-resistant hem and reinforcing sewn around the inside. The brims are plastic (not cardboard), and covered in soft fawn-coloured suedette on top with navy covered twill beneath (to reduce glare on the eyes). The size-adjusting strap has a metal buckle, and metal sleeve for tucking away the end neatly. Each Yachting cap is heavily embroidered with a crew position in cotton thread. North Carolina dam suffers ‘catastrophic failure’ while second dam ‘compromised’ by Storm Helene deluges

Residents downstream of two North Carolina dams are being immediately evacuated after one structure suffered “catastrophic failure” and the other was “compromised” due to flooding from Hurricane Helene .

Officials in Cocke County, Tennessee said on Friday afternoon that the Waterville Dam, just over the state line in North Carolina, had failed and ordered everyone in downtown Newport to get out.

“EMERGENCY UPDATE: THE WATERVILLE DAM HAS SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. EVACUATION ALL OF DOWNTOWN NEWPORT IMMEDIATELY,” Cocke County Mayor Rob Mathis wrote on Facebook just before 3pm local time.

Meanwhile, officials in Rutherford County, North Carolina told residents downstream of the Lake Lure Dam to flee to higher ground due to flash floods overtopping the wall.

“Water is cresting the dam and flowing around the side walls. Structural supports have been compromised, but the dam wall is currently holding,” said the county emergency management department at 1:44pm local time.

“Evacuations have occurred from the dam to Island Creek Road. Evacuation sirens are sounding downstream of the dam.”

At least 41 people were dead across multiple states on Friday evening after Hurricane Helene crashed into Florida as a 140mph, Category 4 storm late Thursday, pounding the west coast with “unsurvivable” conditions.

While Helene was downgraded as it moved inland and the winds dropped, it continued to dump vast amounts of water across Georgia, the Carolinas and then up into Tennessee and Kentucky as it moved north.

Early on Friday, Rutherford County officials had initially warned that the Lake Lure Dam was about to fail completely. However a spokesperson for the state Department of Environmental Quality confirmed to The Independent that it appeared to be of sound structure at 3pm local time.

“Due to the rainfall, the dam is said to be overtopping across its entire length of the dam. The structure was intact as of the last reports we have,” said spokesperson Josh Kastrinsky. “There’s been some erosion noted on the left abutment of the structure, and some water is flowing around that abutment.”

On Facebook , wedding and portrait photographer Helen Pace , who lives on the other side of Lake Lure from the dam, posted pictures of her badly damaged house and a road carved apart by floodwaters.

“We are physically OK,” she said. “The water has started to recede and I think we dodged the predicted winds... We are not able to get out now, we have no power, no water, and cell service seems to be restricted. Sending my love to you all.”

The Rutherford County evacuation orders named a total of 45 streets in two separate Facebook posts . Officials said that storm shelters had been opened at Lake Lure Town Hall and Rutherfordtown Presbyterian Church.

The Lure Dam was built in 1927 on the Broad River, about one hour’s drive east of Asheville and two hours west of Charlotte.

Lake Lure itself is best known nationally as a filming site for the 1987 film Dirty Dancing , which used it to stand in for upstate New York’s Catskill Mountains.

Kastrinsky said that the Lake Lure Dam is classified as “high hazard” due to the large number of people and roads downstream of it, but was last assessed to be in “fair” condition, the second highest of four available ratings.

The Waterville Dam is at the confluence of the Pigeon River and Big Creek, and is also known as the Walters Dam. Both dams are located in North Carolina’s Great Smoky Mountains.

1. The NHS Injury Cost Recovery ( ICR ) Scheme – annual increase in the tariff and ceiling on charges

The Compensation Recovery Unit, on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care ( DHSC ), currently administers the above scheme, which allows for the recovery of National Health Service (NHS) costs following injuries where people claim and receive personal injury compensation.

The tariff and ceiling on charges (cap) payable by compensators for the recovery of NHS treatment and ambulance charges under the NHS Injury Cost Recovery scheme will increase from 1 October 2024.  The increases will apply only to injuries sustained on or after this date.

This uplift in the level of charges is an annual event to reflect Hospital and Community Health Services inflation.

Scotland will also lay regulations to increase the tariff and ceiling of charges in line with England and Wales both in terms of amounts and implementation date.

2. Jersey and Guernsey Motor Traffic Costs Recovery

Jersey Health and Social Services Division (Jersey HSSD ) and States of Guernsey (acting by and through the Committee for Health and Social Care) will also increase their tariff and ceiling of cap charges, in line with the DHSC NHS ICR scheme.
