A night to remember: the World Yacht Trophies in Cannes

One of the undoubted highlights of the annual Cannes Yachting Festival, which this year runs from 12 to 17 September, is the gala dinner and presentation of the World Yacht Trophies. Organised by Yachts France magazine, the 22nd edition will be held on the Saturday night and see around 30 awards handed out to the best yachts launched over the past year.

Van der Valk has an excellent track record of being among the World Yacht Trophies winners in recent times. Notable victors include the BeachClub 600, which was crowned ‘most innovative yacht’ in 2019. The Waterdream took home the same trophy in 2020 while Lady Lene was presented with the best achievement award in 2022.

This year we’ve not one but two motoryachts up for a prestigious prize. The EDGE 65 has been nominated in the exterior design category (19.50 – 24 metres), with her special fold-out platform being just one of many highlights on a yacht designed to make life close to the water the greatest of pleasures. The other nomination is for the custom-built Blue Jeans in the best layout section, another exciting moment for the owners of a 34-metre beauty that already has a World Superyachts Award to her name.

Pardo Yachts: Endurance 60 is the winner of World Yachts Trophies 2021

Just think of the name of this yacht: “Endurance 60”. It evokes NASA’s Martian explorers. And rightly so. The flybridge also emulates a “hat” on the deckhouse, perhaps inspired by a more automotive design. It is sporty yet futuristic and, above all, very nautical. Moreover, the flybridge is crowned by a structural decoration made up of polarised glass windows at the bow, which are purposely inserted into a round steel handrail that borders the flybridge itself for greater safety.

Endurance 60: the main deck of an amazing yacht

What’s more, the beauty of Endurance 60 is instantaneous, but it changes in a metamorphosis depending on the setting. This is the case, for example, when the aft terraces open up at achor, turning the cockpit into an open space worthy of a contemporary theathre play. The teak-covered bulwarks create the perfect setting for nautical gaiety to be shared with friends. The boat’s profiles each have two windowed moustaches: a shorter one in the central area of the yacht with two portholes that provide light on the lower deck, and another one extending towards the bowh, this time with three portholes that can be used to ventilate the cabin facing the sea.

All this occupies a length of 18 meters, with a displacement of around 30 tons. Power comes from twin Volvo IPS 700 engines, which can deliver a top speed of 25 knots. There’s only one fertile mind behind this umpteenth advancement in Italian yachting: Davide Leone , the naval architect behind the Cantiere del Pardo project, while Nauta Design is responsible, as always, for the beautiful interiors. We’ve tested the Endurance 60 at sea and we’ll tell you all about it soon, but we can’t anticipate everything.

SUNSEEKER TRIUMPHANT AT THE 2023 WORLD YACHTS TROPHIES

Sunseeker received two awards at the 2023 World Yachts Trophies for its exceptional design innovation. The Superhawk 55 won ‘Best Exterior Design’ in the 45’ to 64’ category for its dynamic exterior profile and innovative lifestyle features. For its outstanding interior design, the Ocean 182 won the ‘Best Layout’ award in the 80′ to 98′ category. The Ocean 182 launched at Newport International Boat Show last week and has already received industry-leading recognition for the new floating penthouse concept and intelligent use of interior space.

The World Yachts Trophies recognises the best motor yachts launched this year. Sunseeker is a proud winner, receiving recognition from the prestigious jury panel. Sunseeker, alongside Sunseeker London Group, were presented with the trophies during a spectacular awards ceremony that welcomed the world’s leading industry professionals to the bay of Cannes.

Best Exterior Design – Superhawk 55

The sensational Sunseeker Superhawk 55 sets a new standard for style, practicality and the ultimate boat owner experience. A sculptured full-beam aft cockpit makes full use of the yacht’s incredible width, benefitting from generous configurable seating and concealed appliances integrated into the feature wet bar and optional rise and fall TV. The central helm transports the occupant of the driver’s seat to new heights. Experience the feel of weightlessness with uncompromised panoramic views while helming. Practicality is integral to every Sunseeker. Innovative pantograph doors on the port and starboard side offer protection from the elements, allowing the driver to focus on the horizon ahead. The foredeck is ready to host sunbathers and sundowners with day-to-night usability. A spacious large sun pad slides forward to reveal a table for even more seating, delivering versatility and flexible use of the space.

Best Layout – Ocean 182

The Ocean 182 epitomises the floating penthouse concept. Those who step on board are immediately met with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors on the starboard side and matching windows on the port side to provide uninterrupted views from bow to stern, connecting guests to the marine environment while enjoying the comforts of the interior. The main deck is a dedicated space for socialising and entertaining, offering 671 square feet of living space with a stunning collection of contemporary loose furniture to fill the space. There is flexibility to choose freestanding furniture that suits the owner’s requirements, from large U-shaped sofas to comfortable lounge seating.

The unique spiral staircase with minimalist stair treads contributes to an unimpeded view from the inside. Forward of the staircase resides the semi-open galley with a pantograph door to the port side deck. Comprehensively equipped with Miele appliances and an option to include additional refrigeration and a 34-bottle wine cooler, the galley offers incredible space and storage. On the starboard side, a generous dining table for eight guests and a bar forward becomes an ideal space for serviced or informal dining.

The fluidity between outdoor and indoor living spaces is unmatched in this yacht class. With retractable sliding doors, the upper deck can fully close to create a third indoor living space or left open to form an al-fresco balcony, offering the owner ultimate flexibility. The sole helm console on this yacht, situated on the upper deck, has not been seen on a Sunseeker before. Next to the helm, an L-shaped bar is conveniently located for service with crew or for owner use. The bar is well-equipped with refrigeration, ice maker and wash basin for convenience, servicing the indoor and outdoor upper deck spaces. Further aft, on the starboard side, there is an extension of the saloon with U-shaped seating and a fixed TV unit with storage on the port side. Beyond the upper saloon lies an outside space on the upper deck with loose lounge seating and expansive panoramic glazing offering far reaching views out to the horizon.

Below deck, the light and elegant accommodation comprises three well-appointed double cabins and a twin, all with en suite in a standard configuration. The full-beam owner’s cabin positioned amidships is an indulgent escape for the owner, whilst the forward VIP provides an equally luxurious experience for guests.

Offering a contemporary yet timeless interior, the Ocean 182 benefits from a highly customisable interior to suit the owner’s style and taste. The interior, curated in collaboration with Design Unlimited, is characterised by soft neutral tones and a sumptuous blend of textured materials. Every inch of this yacht is finished to an immaculate standard, showcasing recessed ambient mood lighting, stainless steel trim detailing, and specially designed feature bulkheads.

The MCY 96 wins “Most Achieved” award at the World Yacht Trophies in Cannes

Once again, Monte Carlo Yachts has been recognized with a prestigious acknowledgement for its product design and development. The MCY 96, presented to the public at the 40th edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival after its exclusive summer unveiling in Venice, won the “Most Achieved” award category in the 80’-125’ segment at the World Yacht Trophies organized by Yachts France magazine.

During the award ceremony that took place on September 16 at the Carlton Hotel’s beachfront, more than 1.000 guests came together to celebrate the best of the luxury boating industry. For the occasion, the nominated boats were moved from the boat show to the Croisette for the highly anticipated Yacht Parade. An orchestra and dance troupe provided the evening’s entertainment as guests said farewell to the 40th edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival.

The World Yacht Trophies panel comprised of industry experts, captains and journalists that assigned the “Most Achieved Trophy" to the MCY 96, announced the award with the following statement, “ Seventh yacht produced by the MCY shipyard, the 96 is the result of an excellent work between the design team Nuvolari & Lenard with the internal engineering. The quality is always very present ”.

“ This World Yacht Trophy for the new MCY 96 is wonderful news ” says Carla Demaria, President of Monte Carlo Yachts. “ The boat received a very warm welcome at its private showing in Venice, and it’s wonderful to see that confirmed here in Cannes. We are very proud of the MCY 96, which in many ways opens new possibilities for the MCY range. ”

The “Most Achieved Trophy” will complete the collection crown of awards received by the shipyard in the recent years. The MCY 70, MCY 76, MCY 80 and MCY105 have all been recognised by the Trophies in the past.

“ The World Yachts Trophies are one of the most important recognitions in the industry, we are delighted that the new MCY 96 was awarded with this top honour ” said Federico Peruccio, Marketing and Communications Manager of Monte Carlo Yachts. “ The MCY 96 is a stunning craft and the outstanding response of the market brings us great satisfaction. ”

The MCY 96 was officially presented during the Cannes Yacht Festival along the entire MCY collection and will be also on show at the Monaco Yacht Show (September 27-30).

Both the Pershing GTX116 and the InFYnito 90 have won awards. The list of winners also includes the Ferretti Yachts 580, launched at the beginning of the year, and the WallyWhy150. The Ferretti Group thus reinforces its leading position once again this year, with the firm intention of continuing to innovate, for all its brands.

FIVE AWARDS AT THE 2023 WORLD YACHT TROPHIES FOR THE FERRETTI GROUP

On Saturday, September 16 in Cannes, the Ferretti Group won a total of five awards at the World Yacht Trophies. One of the most prestigious events in the yachting industry, organized by SG Publications. The ceremony was attended by guests, personalities, company representatives and industry insiders. The aim was to reward the best motorboats and yachts from 13 to 140 m launched during the year.

It was an exceptional evening, which ended in a real victory for the Group, with trophies highlighting the style, innovation and attention to detail of the latest models officially presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival. During the Festival, the Group was able to satisfy the curiosity of its visitors, who were able to discover no fewer than 25 works of art: 5 models for Ferretti Yachts, 3 each for Pershing and Custom Line, 8 for Riva, 5 for Wally and 1 for Itama, with the 62 RS, promoting "Made in Italy" expertise .

The results of the World Yachts Trophie s 2017 have been announced on the penultimate day of the Cannes Yachting Festival , and both Azimut and Ferretti Group (Ferretti Yachts, Pershing , Riva, Custom Line) have received numerous accolades for this year’s builds, earning 4 awards and five awards respectively.

Held at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes , the glamorous evening celebrated the most innovative, high quality, high performance luxury yachts to enter the market over the 2016/2017 period.

The Azimut S7 won Best Yacht Evolution at the World Yachts Trophies 2017

In addition to the 4 awards won by Azimut, they also received a special acknowledgement for their continued attendance from the inaugural Cannes Yachting Festival held 40 years before.

Oceanco’s 90m superyacht DAR wins top award in Cannes

The recently delivered 90m/295ft motor yacht DAR picked up the ‘Yacht of the Year’ award at the prestigious World Yacht Trophies in Cannes on Saturday.

Held during the Cannes Yachting Festival , the award ceremony took place at a gala event in Cannes' Carlton Hotel where shipyard Oceanco , Captain Kaludio Marcelic and exterior designer Luiz de Basto were on hand to receive the accolade on stage, as shown in the Instagram post below. 

The win comes just a few months after DAR was delivered to her owner and she is now expected to replicate her success at the Monaco Yacht Show Superyacht Awards next week.

She clearly stands out from other newly-launched superyachts and this can be put down to de Basto’s revolutionary exterior styling and the sophisticated interior design by Nuvolari Lenard.

At 90 metres, the motor yacht yields a huge amount of volume, but de Basto has ensured the profile remains long, sporty and lean, while the modern interior is characterised by the rich use of contemporary fabrics.

But her triumph is not solely down to aesthetics: Oceanco’s exceptional build quality must also be applauded as must the ground-breaking technological advances she embodies.

Reflecting the latest innovations in glass technology, her superstructure is completely finished in glass which, from the interior, provides panoramic floor-to-ceiling views aft, to port and to starboard.

The extensive use of glazing also ensures luxury yacht DAR fulfils the brief to have direct contact with her marine environment and it likewise helps to maximise opportunities for outdoor living.

Brimming with cutting-edge technology, DAR was the first yacht built in the Netherlands to be given the official Lloyd’s Register Integrated Bridge System (IBS) notation and designation.

Unfortunately, M/Y DAR is not available for charter but she will be attending the Monaco Yacht Show 2018 .

First unit in Princess Yachts' S80 flagship to make world premiere at Cannes Yachting Festival 2024

British yard Princess Yachts has announced that the first unit in its S80 series will be debuting at this year's Cannes Yachting Festival . The flagship of the S Class range, the S80 was developed in collaboration with naval architects from Olesinski and Italian design house Pininfarina .

The S80 offers a versatile layout either as an owner-operated vessel with an open saloon and raised helm or as a 'discretely crewed' vessel, with the option of an enclosed helm concealing accommodation for up to three crew. 

The S80 has been conceived with sociability and a connection to the outdoors in mind. The main deck sits close to the water with a seamless flow between its sunbathing, lounge and dining spaces.

Andy Lawrence, director of design at Princess Yachts, explained: "The design of the elongated sleek canopy shades the forward two-thirds of this area with an optional awning taking care of the remaining third. The saloon glazing extends far back into the cockpit, cocooning the forward dining area to create shelter from the wind without obstructing your view."

High bulwarks with oval stainless steel rails complete the space, extending beyond the full-length windows lining either side of the cockpit canopy. A large sliding door on the main deck ushers guests into the yacht's interior, which features soft natural materials and four en suite cabins situated on the lower deck.

Above sits a 28.7-square-metre flybridge with multiple seating areas, a wet bar and a barbecue. The space is also equipped with a convertible dining table and even functions as an outdoor cinema with a rise-and-fall television. Other on board highlights include a generous foredeck, tender garage and an electro-hydraulic bathing platform.

The S80 can be fitted with either MAN V12 1,900 or 2,000 hp engines enabling speeds of up to 34 knots, with an optional 7,000-litre fuel tank for an extended cruising range.

Princess Yachts has 18 units currently under construction, according to BOATPro .

“The NAVIX50 embodies our philosophy of creating vessels that excel in any environment,” Leapher CEO Yiannis Andriotis said in a statement. “From the Drake Passage to the coast of St. Tropez, this yacht redefines what’s possible in the sub-500GT category.”

The spacious interior includes six generous cabins, with the option for a seventh cabin or expanded skylounge. The guest cabin on the main deck can also be turned into a gym, wellness area, or an expanded owner’s suite. All guest cabins are equipped with king-size beds, while the owner’s suite is fitted with a plush super king-size bed. The yacht is also home to six crew cabins that can sleep up to 11.

The exterior decks are replete with alfresco dining areas, lounges, and sunbeds. The aft deck is arguably the standout, with two folding terraces, a large, 18-foot pool, a sprawling sunbathing area, a swim platform, and not one but two wet bars. At the opposite end, the foredeck doubles as a garage for two tenders.

“It [the NAVIX50] offers unparalleled versatility and luxury while maintaining an attractive value proposition for seasoned owners,” added Andriotis.

Leapher operates on a site formerly owned by cruise ship producer De Hoop that closed at the height of the pandemic. The yard is set to deliver the first NAVIX60 later this month. Christened Horizon, the 198-foot explorer will be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show from September 25 to 28.
