Codecasa’s New 79-Foot ‘Gentleman’s Yacht’ Is Packed With 1960s Style and Swagger

It’s hard to top the Italian yachts of the ‘50s and ‘60s when it comes to style and taste. That may explain why Codecasa has decided to base its newest 79-footer on the classic designs of yore.

The storied Italian yard, which has been designing luxury yachts since 1825, partnered with Luca Dini Design & Architecture to create the retro beauty that has been named simply The Gentleman’s Yacht .

The all-aluminum vessel pairs the classic lines of the ‘60s with the advanced technology of the 21st century. It has vintage flair in spades and was designed to evoke the era in which Codecasa and the port of Viareggio started to gain international recognition.

“Yachts from the ‘50s immediately take me back to when I was a child,” says Luca Dini, who penned the original design. “So, I wanted to create something that, just by looking at it, made me relive moments of my childhood, walking in Darsena in Viareggio, admiring the timeless elegance of these boats.”

The exterior is replete with rich mahogany and chrome-plated steel, again a mix of the old and new. Particular attention was paid to maximizing the beach club, which Codecasa says is one of the biggest in class. The main deck, meanwhile, offers ample lounge seating and also stores the tender. It’s not just any tender, either. It’s a custom-made miniature version of The Gentleman’s Yacht with the same elegant lines and luxury finishes. It can be easily lowered into the water via the concealed crane.

Inside, meanwhile, there is accommodation for a total of eight seafarers across four guest cabins. There are also two cabins for the crew. The interior can be finished in a classic or contemporary theme. The classic sees intricate wooden detailing, chocolate and taupe leather furnishings, and touches of navy, while the contemporary is decidedly more minimalist. The vessel also sports sliding-glass doors for easy dialogue between indoor and outdoor spaces.

As for how The Gentleman’s Yacht will run, Codecasa has yet to reveal engine specs, but the shipyard estimates the vessel will have a top speed of 25 knots, a cruising speed of 20 knots and a range of 2,100 nautical miles at 9 knots.

The yacht will be available in a limited run of 10 hulls. Codecasa says planning is already underway on the first hull, with construction set to begin soon.

Description

VARNEBANK is a heavy, seaworthy, long-range expedition yacht with accommodations for ten, including crew. She was originally built in Holland for fishing in the North Sea and was later converted to a long-range yacht capable of crossing any ocean. All of the conversion work was done in Holland, beginning in 2004 and completed in 2007. In the process, the boat was stripped of all machinery, electronics, plumbing, wiring, and interior spaces, leaving only the outer steel hull. Much of the hull plating above the waterline was replaced and any damage below the waterline was repaired with new steel plate. A new interior with multiple watertight spaces was constructed of steel and finished in cherry and mahogany. There are two double guest cabins, two crew cabins, a master stateroom, five heads, four showers, and a large tub. A spacious galley on the main deck with a two-drawer stainless refrigerator, full-height stand-alone freezer, dishwasher, microwave oven, convection oven, and an advanced induction cooktop make food preparation a delight. A watertight door leads from the galley to the deck. A new wheelhouse was constructed of aluminum to reduce upper deck weight. 

This is the first time VARNEBANK is available in North America and she’s ready for summer cruising.

Silent Yachts Introduces New 79-foot, Solar-Powered, Long-Range Catamaran

Silent Yachts is building its new ocean-going Silent 79 solar-powered catamaran, a long-range cruiser with unlimited range at 6 or 7 knots and a top speed of 20 knots. The luxurious cat with a minimalist design is Silent’s largest solar yacht yet, and is designed after the Silent 55, which made its debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival this past September.

An Austrian company, Silent is building its first three 79s at an Italian yard in Marotta, near the major shipbuilding town of Ancona on the Adriatic. The first is scheduled to be launched in 2020.

The standard Silent 79 will have two 50kW electric engines in its cruiser version, while the E-power version will have much more powerful twin 250kW engines to produce the 20 knot top speed. The boat has 70 solar panels on the flybridge with a 240 kWh battery capacity. The boat uses the same lithium batteries as those in a Tesla car, with a capacity for all-night cruising, while a 15kVA inverter provides power for appliances. With its solar power, the Silent 79 is self-sufficient, quiet, and smoke- and vibration-free. It leaves no carbon footprint.

Michael Köhler, the founder and CEO of Silent Yachts, says the 79 was designed for comfortable and safe long-range cruising, even for months at a time. He also said the styling “is minimalist, ergonomic, muted and at the same time luxurious and refined to perfection.”

“Solar power is about square meters, so we need to dedicate as much surface to the solar panels as possible while keeping the overall balance and shape,” said Marco Casali, the boat’s designer. “In my opinion, we managed that with the Silent 79. What I tried to achieve is an interesting Italian design, sophisticated and refined.”

The exterior lines are clean and straight, with lots of large windows capable of filling the interior with natural light. Large, outdoor spaces, fore and aft, provide social relaxing and dining areas. The main deck centers around the salon, with a galley, dining area and lounge. Since the boat’s beam is a massive 36 feet, there is extra space all around. Several layouts are available on the lower deck, which can hold four to six cabins, including an oversized owner’s cabin with a private office. Since there is not a traditional engine room, the garage aft is large enough to hold a 15-foot tender and various water toys.

The Silent 79 also will be offered in a Hybrid Power version, powered by two diesel engines combined with the electric motors, batteries and solar power. Price for the base boat is about $3,880,000.

Inside the Mazu 82 Pozitif Studyo/Mazu Yachts

The 79-foot vessel, which was built for an an unnamed buyer, features a composite exterior designed by the shipyard’s founder, Halit Yukay. The centerpiece of the boat is a large deckhouse made almost entirely of bulletproof-tempered glass. (Because, hey, you never know when the evil villain is going to ambush you.) Behind this, you’ll find aft-deck with terraced steps leading down to a swimming platform that also double as built-in furniture for passengers. In front, there’s a spacious multi-purpose foredeck that can be used for sunbathing, dining (for a group of up to 12) and as an open-air cinema.

“The space has to be as compact and light as possible without losing the illusion of feeling at home or in a cozy hotel,” Özelgin said in a press release. “This was one of our key aspects during the design phase of the yacht: to create a space that feels more as if you were in your own house….” Or a super plush fortress.

But the Mazu 82 isn’t just a stylish, well-appointed vessel that’s ready for a shootout. It’s also got some serious pep. That comes courtesy of up to three Volvo engines that help ensure that the boat has an impressive top speed of 40 knots and a cruising speed of 35 knots. So if things go awry, you’ll be primed to make your escape.

Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). VARNEBANK is a heavy, seaworthy, long-range expedition yacht with accommodations for ten, including crew. She was originally built in Holland for fishing in the North Sea and was later converted to a long-range yacht capable of crossing any ocean. All of the conversion work was done in Holland, beginning in 2004 and completed in 2007. In the process, the boat was stripped of all machinery, electronics, plumbing, wiring, and interior spaces, leaving only the outer steel hull. Much of the hull plating above the waterline was replaced and any damage below the waterline was repaired with new steel plate. A new interior with multiple watertight spaces was constructed of steel and finished in cherry and mahogany. There are two double guest cabins, two crew cabins, a master stateroom, five heads, four showers, and a large tub. A spacious galley on the main deck with a two-drawer stainless refrigerator, full-height stand-alone freezer, dishwasher, microwave oven, convection oven, and an advanced induction cooktop make food preparation a delight. A watertight door leads from the galley to the deck. A new wheelhouse was constructed of aluminum to reduce upper deck weight. This is the first time VARNEBANK is available in North America and she's ready for summer cruising.

It’s hard to top the Italian yachts of the ‘50s and ‘60s when it comes to style and taste. That may explain why Codecasa has decided to base its newest 79-footer on the classic designs of yore.

The storied Italian yard, which has been designing luxury yachts since 1825, partnered with Luca Dini Design & Architecture to create the retro beauty that has been named simply The Gentleman’s Yacht .

The all-aluminum vessel pairs the classic lines of the ‘60s with the advanced technology of the 21st century. It has vintage flair in spades and was designed to evoke the era in which Codecasa and the port of Viareggio started to gain international recognition.

“Yachts from the ‘50s immediately take me back to when I was a child,” says Luca Dini, who penned the original design. “So, I wanted to create something that, just by looking at it, made me relive moments of my childhood, walking in Darsena in Viareggio, admiring the timeless elegance of these boats.”

The exterior is replete with rich mahogany and chrome-plated steel, again a mix of the old and new. Particular attention was paid to maximizing the beach club, which Codecasa says is one of the biggest in class. The main deck, meanwhile, offers ample lounge seating and also stores the tender. It’s not just any tender, either. It’s a custom-made miniature version of The Gentleman’s Yacht with the same elegant lines and luxury finishes. It can be easily lowered into the water via the concealed crane.

Inside, meanwhile, there is accommodation for a total of eight seafarers across four guest cabins. There are also two cabins for the crew. The interior can be finished in a classic or contemporary theme. The classic sees intricate wooden detailing, chocolate and taupe leather furnishings, and touches of navy, while the contemporary is decidedly more minimalist. The vessel also sports sliding-glass doors for easy dialogue between indoor and outdoor spaces.

As for how The Gentleman’s Yacht will run, Codecasa has yet to reveal engine specs, but the shipyard estimates the vessel will have a top speed of 25 knots, a cruising speed of 20 knots and a range of 2,100 nautical miles at 9 knots.

The yacht will be available in a limited run of 10 hulls. Codecasa says planning is already underway on the first hull, with construction set to begin soon.
