Mariquita, one of the best examples of William Fife's 'big class', is on the market, 104 years after she was launched

Not very often does a yacht come on the market that has such a storied history behind her. Marquita, the glorious Fife design, one of the most elegant yachts in the classics circuit, is on the market and yours for €3.5 million.

She is for sale through Bernard Gallay Yacht Brokerage .

Mariquita dates back to some of the grandest days of yachting. She is is one of the most historic and interesting of the Fife designs, a 19 Metre, 125ft LOA and launched in 1911.

Built as yard no 595 at the W. Fife and Son yard in Scotland, Mariquita would originally have been intended only to last for a few seasons’ hard racing.

The Metre rule was conceived to cater for all pockets, and fleets of 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 15, 19, and 23 metres were built in varying numbers, the 8s being the smallest to follow the social circuit around the UK during the summer months. Many of the larger racers would become cruising yachts in later life but only a few of these classic cutters have survived and most have now been restored.

Mariquita, the Fife designed 19 Metre from 1911

Mariquita was restored over two years at Fairlie Restorations in the UK in 2004, as the ravages of time had eaten deep into her structure of steel and Honduras mahogany planking, but at their hands the standard of build and finish surpassed her original launch day in 1911.

Mariquita is the only surviving 19 Metre Class yacht and the oldest of only four remaining of the metre class ‘big class’, the others being the 23 Metre Class ‘Astra’ (1928), ‘Cambria’ (1928), ‘Candida’ (1929).

Sailing her is a joy and an art. Displacing 78 tons, Mariquita reaches hull speed at around 12.5 knots and is steered by a small diameter traditional wheel. The weight on the helm is surprisingly high, a far cry from modern steering systems and fingertip control.

Some 3400ft2 of the 6260ft2 of total upwind sail area is taken up by the mainsail and the 71ft main boom is sheeted to the counter deck with a 6:1 mainsheet system hauled by seven crew. Centring the mainboom for a gybe is said to be a humbling experience for the unfit.

Once trimmed, a stopper cord is wound around the sheet to take the strain before it can be made up on a bronze bollard. From this the trimmer can ease the sheet when required, and if this all sounds complex, remember there are seven sails to handle and each with its own techniques to master.

One can just imagine a day’s racing at Cowes Week in 1911 with all sail set in over 20 knots of breeze in the company of equally powerful boats. Sails and topmast would be expendable and regularly broken, no quarter would be given or expected from the opposition, and as a crew member you could not expect an early rescue if you slipped overboard.

The contrast with modern boats, equipped with pulpits and guardwires, is extreme, adding to the thrill of sailing a yacht that can only be operated by a highly experienced crew under firm command.

Not surprisingly, there is a thirst to relive those heady days and try to understand the people who made it happen. When designers such as Nicholson, Mylne and Fife cajoled their owners to spend some of their fortunes, they could not have imagined that that well over 100 years later their creations would be still draw admiring looks, still be the treasure of owners and raced with gusto and glamour of their own era.

Nefertiti, US-19

Built in 1962 according to the International Third Rule- America’s Cup.

1962-1968: Nefertiti was the first twelve designed by Frederick “Ted” Hood and the only new 12 built for the 1962 Defender Trails. Her construction was a fast one, she was launched just 96 days after the plans were delivered to the yard. At the time she was the beamiest 12 ever built, as Hood was in search of stability, she had a long fore-triangle. She was fast in strong winds but unfortunately the Defender selection finals took place in light air. Weatherly prevailed and ultimately won the match against Gretel for the 1962 America’s Cup. Nefertiti won the 1962 Lipton Memorial Trophy (NYYC).

1964-1996: Nefertiti was altered by Ted Hood and in 1967, she was chartered by AC Challenger Syndicate as the trial horse for Dame Pattie . Thus began her travels around the globe. From 1969-1979, she was owned by Man Johnson Co. Ltd. with her home port in Piraeus, Greece. From here she went on to the West Indies, then to Fremantle for the 1987 Cup races then on to South Africa for six years.

1996-2019: Purchased by George Hill and Herb Marshall of America’s Cup Charters she returned to her homeport of Newport, RI. Since 1998 she has been owned by Sears Wullschleger, Nefertiti Charters LLC.

2020: Nefertiti was purchased by Jack Klinck and joined Newport’s 12 Meter Yacht Charters fleet.

Baltic Yachts unveils 33-metre catamaran project

Baltic Yachts has announced details of its first multihull project, a 33-metre (107ft) blue-water cruising catamaran known as Baltic 107.

The Finnish sailing yacht builder, which teased details of the new catamaran earlier this month , says the contract for Baltic 107 was signed in June 2024, and the design and engineering phases are well underway. The build will commence this month with the construction of the hull moulds, and the yacht is expected to be delivered in summer 2027.

It’s the first foray into multihulls for Baltic Yachts, which specialises in high-performance composite monohull yachts. The yard says the yacht is designed for long-range exploration, offering stability, comfort, and high sailing performance, particularly in light winds.

“She will be very much an explorer yacht with exceptionally high levels of comfort, beauty and reliability as well as some groundbreaking developments in efficiency,” says Baltic Yachts sales director Kenneth Nyfelt. “While meeting strict weight targets to optimise her performance and handling, Baltic Yachts will also deliver a quality of finish that is yet to be seen on a multihull.”

Naval architecture is being led by Olivier Racoupeau, interior design by Jamie Bush, design consultancy by Andrea Chiari-Gaggia, structural engineering by Rivoyre Ingenierie, with Patrick Sassier as the owner’s representative.

“With the Baltic 107 Catamaran, Berret Racoupeau Yacht Design is particularly proud to bring the multihull into the world of the superyacht,” says Racoupeau. “Our passionate and experienced team immediately recognised the values of Baltic Yachts . With a wealth of experience in multihulls, it was natural for us to design this exceptional catamaran, sharing the same vision with her owner of elegant lines and performance with volumes that will give access to any destination worldwide in the greatest comfort.”

“For our first yacht project, this hi-tech 33-metre catamaran illustrates a unique design highlighting inventive functionality with modern styling, wrapped in a classic palette of warm woods, crisp whites with pops of sporty colours,” said Bush. “It’s about creating a space that’s at once sophisticated, youthful and timeless for our adventurous clients. Building upon our previous successful collaboration with the owners, we’re drawing inspiration from modernist influences and contemporary design to develop a fresh and unique aesthetic for this yacht.”

Key features of the Baltic 107 catamaran include pivoting centreboards for accessing shallow waters, low noise levels in the accommodation areas, and 360-degree views from the saloon. The yacht’s sailing systems will be operated from crew areas on the flybridge, and Baltic says it will have low energy consumption at anchor, with the ability to regenerate electricity through its propellers while under sail.

“Pushing the boundaries of technical sailing innovation is in Baltic Yachts’ core DNA,” says Henry Hawkins, Baltic Yachts’ EVP. “This project is a great opportunity for us to explore new avenues with partners with whom we are building their first yacht.”

Earlier this year, Baltic Yachts consolidated its operations at a new waterfront facility in Jakobstad, Finland.  The firm reported this move to improve efficiency and reduce its production footprint.

INVENTIVE AND SOPHISTICATED 33-METRE WORLD CRUISING CATAMARAN WITH UNMATCHED QUALITY

Baltic Yachts reveals its first multihull project as a 33-metre (107ft) blue water cruising catamaran.

With contract signature in June 2024, the design and engineering phases of the project are well advanced and the build is scheduled to start this month with the construction of hull moulds. The yacht is due for delivery in summer 2027.

This project is a major milestone for Baltic Yachts, which has been a world leader in the production and development of high-performance, luxurious composite monohull yachts for more than 50 years.

The design brief calls for a highly aesthetic and functional design of a stable and comfortable long-range explorer yacht that can go almost literally anywhere, with elegant, streamlined and soft exterior lines, excellent sailing performance in all conditions and especially in light winds, and a high degree of autonomy from shoreside support services. It also desires a strong emphasis on environmental thinking and sustainable solutions, which extends to the yacht’s long-term operational footprint as well as the environmental impact of her construction.

The key features include pivoting centreboards that will enable her to explore shallow waters freely, extremely low levels of noise throughout the owner’s and guests’ accommodation, and unobstructed 360° views from her saloon. All sailing systems will be controlled from the crew areas on the flybridge. She will have notably low energy consumption at anchor as well as being able to regenerate electricity with her propellers while she is under sail.

• We will ask for images of the defects so we can make immediate improvements in our production.
• We will send replacement boat seats to you as soon as you provide us with images.
• We do not need the defective boat seats back, and you are never required to pay shipping.
• We spend extra money on packaging to ensure your new boat seats will ship safely, but there is always the chance rough handling or stacking could damage the upholstery or parts. If this happens, just give us a call.

DeckMate® Woven Vinyl Flooring - 6 Year Warranty

• Industry leading warranty - Our Woven Vinyl has a 6 year, full replacement warranty. If anything goes wrong, we will send you brand new flooring without hassle or cost to you.
• We will send replacement flooring to you as soon as you provide us with images.
• We do not need the defective  flooring back , and you are never required to pay shipping.
• We spend extra money on packaging to ensure your new flooring will ship safely, but there is always the chance rough handling or stacking could damage the flooring. If this happens, just give us a call.

Carpet & Flooring - 3 Year Warranty

• All of our carpeting and flooring is marine grade and it is protected by a 3 year warranty, which includes fading and deterioration.

Bimini Tops - 3 Year Warranty

• Full replacement   on defective bimini tops. If your bimini top arrives with any defects or quality issues, we will pay to return and replace your bimini top immediately.

All Other Products - 1 Year Warranty

• All of our non-seating or flooring products (other than carpet and vinyl flooring) have a 1 year warranty.

It is important to us that our customers know we will support them after the sale. We will take care of any problems you have quickly and at no cost to you, as we personally warranty everything we sell.

Shipping is free on any order over $100; orders under $100 has a shipping fee of $9.99. Place an order on a business day by 4 p.m. EST and in stock seats and accessories will ship the same day! No slow shipping times to save money, PontoonStuff® only ships orders using FedEx and our products will arrive to your home quickly. Map below shows time in transit.

Pontoon decking kits will be shipped using FedEx Freight services (semi-truck) and require a phone number to schedule delivery (free shipping).

Please note that decking kits take additional time to process and may not ship for up to 72 business hrs.

Pontoon boat carpet orders

In order to offer you the best prices we ship all pontoon boat carpet orders directly from our carpet mill in Georgia. If you order pontoon boat furniture and carpet, you may receive one shipment sooner than the other depending on your location.

International Orders

We do not accept international orders, no exceptions.

Your payment information is processed securely. We do not store credit card details nor have access to your credit card information.

Refund Policy

Returns Our policy lasts 30 days. If 30 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

Several types of goods are exempt from being returned. Perishable goods such as food, flowers, newspapers or magazines cannot be returned. We also do not accept products that are intimate or sanitary goods, hazardous materials, or flammable liquids or gases.

Refunds (if applicable) Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. We will also notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund. If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within a certain amount of days.

Late or missing refunds (if applicable) If you haven’t received a refund yet, first check your bank account again. Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted. Next contact your bank. There is often some processing time before a refund is posted. Sale items (if applicable) Only regular priced items may be refunded, unfortunately sale items cannot be refunded.

Gifts If the item was marked as a gift when purchased and shipped directly to you, you’ll receive a gift credit for the value of your return. Once the returned item is received, a gift certificate will be mailed to you.

If the item wasn’t marked as a gift when purchased, or the gift giver had the order shipped to themselves to give to you later, we will send a refund to the gift giver and he will find out about your return.
