Inside Gulf Craft's largest yacht – Majesty 155

The view from gate eight at Heathrow’s Terminal Three is entirely appropriate. There, outside the window, the world’s largest passenger jet, the Airbus A380-800, is waiting to whisk me to Dubai, where size is often off the scale and where superyachts are fast catching up with everything else in that dimension-busting city.

Gulf Craft , a 50-mile drive along the coast from Dubai, is leading the charge, with its new 47 metre Majesty 155 . The company, formed in 1982, now employs about 2,000 people, building some 300 boats a year. Its range extends down to 8.2 metres and there are five series, including a commercial line of passenger ferries and patrol boats.

The Majesty Yachts range starts at 19.5 metres and did reach 41 metres, until the Majesty 155 was launched in May . Four years of gestation have wrought this new flagship, a fine-looking craft from the pen of naval architect Massimo Gregori Grgic, of Yankee Delta Studio in Italy.

From the steeply raked stem to the swept-back profile of the superstructure, there is a quiet class to the Majesty 155 that belies the brash shoutiness of nearby Dubai. It represents Gulf Craft’s very own A380 – its biggest and best craft – and a far bigger step up from the previous Majesty 135 than an extra six metres would suggest, chiefly because of its oversized 9.6 metre beam. But it isn’t just sheer size that links the 155 with the Airbus.

The 72.72 metre A380, which has an even bigger wing span, at 79.75 metres, is a composite construction instead of the aluminium from which we’re used to seeing aircraft built, and likewise the Majesty 155 is all GRP rather than the steel or aluminium you might expect.

Engage Erwin Bamps on the subject only if you have time to spare: the CEO of Gulf Craft is positively evangelical. “Composite technology is advancing far faster than that of alloys,” says the Belgian-born Bamps. “We’re doing things now that just wouldn’t have been possible years ago. That A380 wouldn’t have been conceivable 20 years ago. GRP offers fantastic build flexibility; correctly used it is virtually stress-proof and, of course, it doesn’t corrode; it lasts for ever.

“We truly believe it offers far better properties for the purpose of shipbuilding, even at this size. Indeed, we see no limit. There is no reason why we can’t make bigger yachts from this material.”

“Shipbuilding” is an interesting term, because Bamps sees this new vessel very much as a small ship, not a big boat. With a round-bilge hull form, the Majesty 155 is strictly a displacement craft – the yard’s first – designed primarily for endurance and range. To that end the twin 2,011hp MTU 12V 4,000 M63 engines are “E rated” for commercial use, detuned for longevity rather than heavily boosted for performance. Top speed is a leisurely 16 knots but a 53,260-litre fuel capacity means that, at its 10 knot cruising speed, the yacht has a potential range in excess of 4,000 nautical miles, allowing continuous cruising for more than a week at a time.

Bamps is also keen to stress the flexibility composite construction affords. The hull is the fixed point; beyond that everything is up for negotiation – including the superstructure. The same is true of the interior. Gulf Craft will lay the boat out to your requirements, within the realms of what’s physically possible. And that extends to the smallest detail. Barring engines and electronics, Gulf Craft manufactures almost everything. Where most yards work with, say, high-end furniture suppliers to obtain chairs as close as possible to your requirements, Gulf Craft simply makes the chairs in the style you desire.

That wide beam means there’s plenty of room to work with. This first boat has a restfully Zen-like interior ambience, with pale woods, light upholstery and polished floors set off by dark polished accents. Leather vacuum-formed over-contoured panels create a classy three-dimensional effect. “We’ve let the artwork do the shouting,” says Bamps. “That way it is easy to spice up or tone down the impact.”

Spread luxuriantly over three decks, the accommodation makes maximum use of the volume available. The master suite is positioned forward on the main deck, its en suite bathroom stretching the full beam ahead of that (and featuring a hidden TV that projects its picture through the mirror when in use). There’s a fold-down balcony accessed via sliding doors, but that generous beam has allowed this terrace to extend inwards as well as outwards, the recessed area creating a small private outdoor area that can be used under way rather than just at rest as is the case with most folding balconies.

You’ll find the main internal social area occupying the rear of this deck. Head past it and you’ll discover a generous galley, while crew accommodation is this way also, with a stairwell leading down to a mess room and four en suite crew cabins. It means that you can run comfortably with five or six crew, yet retain the capacity to increase the numbers for charter work or serious entertaining.

Access to the guest accommodation is via a stairwell just aft of the master suite. Or you can let the lift take the strain of transporting you to the lower deck. Down here cabins are laid out four-square, in this case a pair of doubles aft and a pair of twins forward.

Hit the top button in that lift and you’ll alight at the upper deck. Behind the large wheelhouse the captain’s cabin allows instant access while off duty – better hope he packs light, though, as there’s not masses of storage in here. A separate communications station and a full-height cupboard contains the guts of the electronics. Racked out with complex media servers that allow movies and music to be streamed to any cabin screen via iPad controllers, it also stocks navigation servers, satellite AV and comms controllers, and high-speed WiFi routers for the whole boat. With kit from the likes of Savant, Kaleidescape and Sonos, a quarter of a million dollars’ worth of equipment is in this cupboard.

A more informal second saloon occupies the rear section of this level. Complete with bar, it offers a great entertaining area and opens out on to the spa pool deck directly above the aft cockpit.

But expansive though the internal layout is, this isn’t a yacht for hiding away in. Twin stairways from the deeply bulwarked side decks take you up to the palatial flying bridge. A semi-circular cutaway at the trailing edge allows sunlight to pour down into the spa pool below. Or if you prefer your pouring a little more fluid, a waterfall is built into the lip. Protected by a louvred hardtop, two large dinettes are served by twin galley areas, one with a barbecue. But perhaps the most social area is ahead. A raised circular plinth is encircled by three large, curved sofas and topped in teak. But that teak table hides a secret: lift it off to discover an exquisite illuminated fountain –  a terrific centrepiece.

The Majestic 155 is all about choice. So complementing this and the shaded lower area is a further cockpit. And we’re not done yet. Perhaps my favourite area on the whole yacht is also one of the smallest. Right back aft – behind an air-conditioned engine room so  big it feels like there must be something missing in there, and behind a side-access garage large enough  to house a 6.2 metre Williams jet RIB and a pair of jet skis – lies  the beach club.

Formed by raising a massive section of the transom (that doubles as a shade in its raised position) this is an utterly idyllic waterside retreat that really puts you in touch with the reason you’re out here: the ocean. An extended section drops on hydraulics into the sea if you’re feeling athletic enough to swim or scuba dive. Or pour yourself a stiff one, invite your most favoured guests, have the captain turn on the underwater lights and let the sea life come to you.

But what of that fabled Middle Eastern excess? She may have been designed and built in the UAE but this yacht is surprisingly restrained. Flashes of her geographical heritage can be found in the fountain on the flybridge or the complex mosaics around the spa pool. But interestingly, where you feel the influence most, is in the cost. Without a famous European brand behind the price, this is a yacht that is usefully less expensive than similarly sized boats from heavyweight names. Excess not quite in all areas, then.

Q is the second of the largest yachts ever built by Sunseeker at 155’ (47m) built

to the highest specifications including state of the art ultra high speed communications systems and the larger MTU 4000 series engines providing a maximum speed of 24 knots. The Main engines have extended manufacturer's warranty for three years commencing January 2022.

The accommodation is particularly impressive, with the master and two double VIP

suites on the main deck and three further guest suites on the lower deck. The galley, along with the crew cabins, laundry, crew mess and ships office is situated on the lower deck forward.

The exterior spaces on the yacht are also particularly spacious for her size, especially the very impressive sundeck space, in addition, she has a fabulous lower deck beach club which also

ABOUT THE 155MY

The Sunseeker 155 is 155-foot luxury tri-deck motor yacht with a flybridge that was produced by the legendary British yacht building firm Sunseeker between 2014 and 2016. The largest vessel ever built at the Sunseeker yard in Poole when launched, the 155 also became one of the most luxurious and stylish yachts ever seen, so much so that former F1 driver and team-owner Eddie Jordan snapped one up prior to release. Combining the sort of space you would expect from a Malibu beach mansion with the ultra-modern geometric and jagged touches that have become Sunseeker’s signature style, the 155 provides not only masses of sundeck space but the sort of robust long-distance range that the ultra-wealthy demand.

The secret to the 155’s sense of space may be down to the yacht’s eye-opening 30-foot beam, and the flybridge makes the most of these dimensions by providing a lofty and partially sheltered teak-lined retreat with a forward jacuzzi, a pair of sunpads, two hook-shaped sofas, a rear sun-lounge and a walk-in, marble-lined wet-bar with four stools. The upper deck proves to be just as generous a host, with a rear sundeck featuring a pair of u-shaped lounge sofas with teak breakfast tables and a couple of stern-facing sunpads. LED-lit side-decks on this level lead to a cutaway side terrace built out of the bulwark as well as a foredeck with an integral sofa with a pair of cocktail tables. The upper salon, meanwhile, features masses of dramatic glazing, plush sofas, an indoor bar inspired by the Art Deco cocktail lounges of old, a circular dining table, room for an optional upper stateroom or gym and access to the elevated wheelhouse. The wheelhouse boasts all the latest instrumentation required for long, blue-water voyages including Sleipner stern and bow thruster controls, power-steering, Furuno N700 Navtex display panels, Simrad autopilot, Sailor VHF radio and more. All Sunseeker Yachts leave the shipyard well-equipped for luxury cruising.

On the main deck there is a further aft deck with a U-shaped sofa, while curved sliding glass doors with stainless steel frames lead into a main salon with a lavish seating area and a formal dining room for up to 12 guests, all exquisitely framed by panoramic side windows and a set of side doors leading out to a second cocktail terrace. Interior treatments are subject to customisation by renowned designers like Sallyanne Holmes, but typically include high-gloss timber floors, authentic leather furnishings, marble surfaces, bronze-effect trim, light oak panelling and plush upholstery for an effortlessly sophisticated atmosphere. You will also find the enclosed galley on this level, a space with country-kitchen dimensions, Liebherr fridge-freezer units, a Baron griddle with a separate Teppanyaki hot plate, a Hoshizaki ice-chipper, a Giork combination oven, a Hoonved industrial-spec dishwasher and marble or granite work surfaces. At the front of the main deck sits the owner’s stateroom, a full-beam work of art with two walk-in dressing rooms, a work desk, a guest lobby, a king-sized bed, a recessed outdoor balcony and a large double-bathroom with two of everything and a luxury bathtub.

The Sunseeker 155 also includes sleeping space for up to eight more overnight guests on the lower deck, across a pair of en-suite twin bedrooms and two en-suite double staterooms, each benefiting from panoramic mullioned hull windows and generous storage space. A privately accessed crew quarters also includes rest space for up to 6 members of staff, with four crew bathrooms, a private galley and a dinette lounge bound to keep your team happy. At the very rear of the lower-deck space and accessed via transom steps is the aft-beach-club, where a double-length hydraulic swimming platform folds down from the transom wall and connects to an internal, almost sea-level lounge area with a glazed door, a U-shaped sofa, a wet-bar and a day-head.

Due to the aft-beach club the tender garage door has been shifted to the starboard side of the yacht, and is large enough to store a 7-meter Williams tender, a pair of jet-skis, four Seabobs and much more besides, while another tender can be stored out on the foredeck where a crane allows for easy lifting to and from the water.

You can expect top speeds of over 22 knots thanks to a pair of MTU 12V 4000 M73L diesel engines, while at a cruising pace of 10 knots the Sunseeker 155 boasts an incredible range of around 4,500 nautical miles. An FRP, semi-displacement hull with a round bilge, a long keel, a double-height bow and both RINA and MCA L2 certification proves to be immensely seaworthy in a range of conditions, while the addition of an optional Quantum QC1800 zero-speed stabilizer eliminates most roll while at anchor.

• Hauled to service Stabilizers in April 2021. Removed both fins, replaced port stabilizer shaft. All internal bearings and seals replaced plus renewed linkages and hydraulic hoses completed a major overhaul to the whole system.
• Anti-fouled vessel and replaced all Zinc’s and prop speed on all props.

October 2021 to January 2021                   

• Completed a full 20-year Lloyds survey by January 2021 so vessel is fully compliant with class. This survey included inspection and approvals after maintenance and compiling with surveyor demands and compliance in Structural/Mechanical/Tanks and Electrical systems etc.
• During mechanical Lloyds survey it was required to completely remove gearboxes from main engines to do a full rebuild, which included new pinion gears bearings seals etc. this was an intense project with time frame allowed and the location of work completed within the engine room. This basically Zeroed the hours of the Gearboxes.
• Complete repaint and clean of lower engine room bilge
• Replaced all 6 Miele Machines in the laundry with New Miele washer and dryers

October 2020 to June 2021

• Full Paint Refit, Superstructure and Hull, removal of every fitting, rail, Sat domes, Aerials, shell doors on every deck and in the hull. Removal of all varnished cap rails on all decks
• Full Antifoul
• Remodeled entire sundeck, new outboard Umbrellas. This included a complete re-designed bar with new fridges ice makers special lighting, New Speakers and large waterproof TV. Installed New Control 4 AV system control for music, light, TV etc.

Full Details

Q is the second of the largest yachts ever built by Sunseeker at 155’ (47m) built

to the highest specifications including state of the art ultra high speed communications systems and the larger MTU 4000 series engines providing a maximum speed of 24 knots. The Main engines have extended manufacturer's warranty for three years commencing January 2022.

The accommodation is particularly impressive, with the master and two double VIP

suites on the main deck and three further guest suites on the lower deck. The galley, along with the crew cabins, laundry, crew mess and ships office is situated on the lower deck forward.

The exterior spaces on the yacht are also particularly spacious for her size, especially the very impressive sundeck space, in addition, she has a fabulous lower deck beach club which also

includes a large sauna.

In the toy department, she has a Williams 625 Diesel Jet which is stowed in the side access garage, plus two Sea Doo’s located on the bow plus an additional stand-up jet-ski.

Yachting Partners International is delighted to welcome 47.25m (155ft) Sunseeker superyacht Q to the YPI sales fleet, offered for sale at USD 21,500,000 (not available for sale to US residents whilst in US waters).

Superyacht Q is the second of the largest yachts built by Sunseeker, and arguably the best Sunseeker ever built. Featuring exterior and interior design by Sunseeker, she is the second unit of the 155 range, sitting just below 500GT. Having been built to a higher specification than the first hull, she epitomized what the Sunseeker 155 yacht project was due to be from conception.

Q has an impressive volume with vast deck spaces and sumptuous interior styling. The spacious main saloon features floor to ceiling windows allowing plenty of natural night to enter the space. Two balconies fitted either side on the main deck add extra space to enjoy the views. A large sky-lounge deck has al fresco dining amenities and comfortable seating.

Q’s sizeable interior also includes a full-beam sky-lounge with dining and comfortable lounge seating and a vast sundeck complete with Jacuzzi, wet bar, al-fresco dining and large sunbathing area. A port side balcony offers views from the lower saloon. Completing the luxury exterior is a fabulous beach club with a sauna. The transom also folds down to create a swim platform that features sun loungers and allows easy access to the water.

A substantial full beam Owner’s suite and two large VIP suites can be found on the main deck and a further three twin convertible guest suites on the lower deck.

Whether cruising at the economic 15 knots or getting to your destination in a hurry at the fast cruise of 23 knots, Q has outstanding seakeeping qualities providing a smooth ride in total comfort. Quantum XT Zero Speed Stabilizers guarantee complete stability at anchor.

The largest triple-deck superyacht built by Gulf Craft is the Majesty 155. The Italian designers Yankee Delta Studio have developed a timeless yacht with maximum comfort and every conceivable luxury for the owner. The waterfall pool on the upper deck, as well as the lift connecting the three main decks are highlights worth mentioning.

The equipment and layout of this superyacht is undoubtedly adaptable to the owner’s individual wishes and requirements. A wide selection of different materials and equipment is available.

On the top deck, the Sun Deck, there is a bar with outdoor kitchen, a lounge area, as well as a whirlpool with sun loungers. From here, a waterfall falls into the pool on the upper deck below. There is also an air-conditioned sky lounge and the bridge with steering position and adjoining captain’s cabin located on this deck.

The main deck is divided into a spacious saloon with living and dining area, the galley and the separate owner’s area. The large owner’s suite offers space for a private living area, a large wellness bathroom, as well as a walk-in dressing room and, as a highlight, a private fold-out balcony.  Additionally, there is a separate room on this deck that can be set up and used as a gym, cigar lounge or office. Below deck, 4 large guest cabins are located amidships.

The crew quarters with separate access are located in the bow. There is room for a total of 9 crew members on this yacht.  The large tender garage can store a tender and several jet skis. Also available is the option of a beach club in the stern of the yacht.

Marking something of a full circle moment, the Greenline team got the idea for the new brand at the MYS in 2018. The story goes that Prince Albert II of Monaco fell in love with the yard’s electric 33-footer and even requested an escort to the Monaco Yacht Club in the yacht. That high praise pushed the Greenline team to scale their green tech for the superyacht sector.

Each GX cruiser will feature a cutting-edge hybrid propulsion system, a highly efficient hull, and a large solar array. The hybrids will be able to seamlessly switch between diesel and electric power, allowing seafarers to cruise leisurely sans emissions or tear it up at speed. “At six knots in electric mode, these yachts can achieve an incredible range of up to 100 nautical miles,” Greenline CCO Luca Raumland said in a statement. “In diesel mode, they can cross the Atlantic at 12 knots, while the max range is 11,571 nautical miles at six knots”

The GX superyachts will produce 40 percent fewer carbon emissions than conventional diesel-powered vessels, according to Greenline. Each yacht will also be fitted with solar panels and a large lithium battery bank that together will offer enough green energy to power the hotel load silently and cleanly for 48 hours or more, the yard says.

GX has already reeled in a customer, too. The yard is in the process of constructing a 138-footer for an existing Greenline client. (As the GX models are too big for Greenline’s Slovenian yard, the fleet will be built in partnership with SES Yachts of Tuzla, Turkey.) The stylish new GX42 RPH will showcase leatherwork by Foglizzo, natural wood flooring by Cadorin, and furniture by Poltrona Frau and Rugiano. With 50 percent of the hull already complete, the yacht is expected to hit the seas in summer 2026.
